Sluices to open to prevent possible second flood
Authorities are planning to get as much water out of Wivenhoe
Dam as soon as possible to minimise the chances of a second
flood. Weather bureau hydrologist Peter Baddiley said the
Brisbane River fell steadily yesterday January 13th after reaching
a peak of 4.46m at 4am, although afternoon high tides gave
floodwaters a small surge to 4.2m.

But authorities cannot completely rule out the possibility of a

"second flood", similar to what happened in 1893, when
floodwaters reached a peak of eight metres.
