The play “The Diary of Anne Frank” was written by Albert Hackett and Frances

Goodrich. The excerpt of Anne Frank’s diary was written by herself. In it, Anne is hiding from
the Nazis in an apartment in the Netherlands. While hiding in there, attacks happened outside.
The Van Daans and Mr. Dussel move in to their small apartment. The people inside develop
relationships and start accommodating with each other. At the end, the Nazis come and take
them to concentration camps where they were separated. Anne goes through many changes
throughout the story and develops lots of character traits.

Anne At 13
In the play “The Diary of Anne Frank”, Anne shows many traits about her character. One
character trait is that she is playful. One example is that she starts to sing and dance by herself
after Peter says no, after she takes his shoes. She does it because she wants to have fun and
because she wants to get along with Peter. Another example is when she tries on Mrs. Van
Daan’s coat and asks her questions. She asks her if she had a lot of boyfriends before she was
married. Mrs. Van Daan then told a small story. She had fun asking and doing that. Anne was a
very playful girl.

Another character trait is that she is irritating. An example is when she takes Peter’s
shoes and hides it behind her. She is irritating because Peter asks for his shoes back, and Anne
says, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Peter gets annoyed by this. Another example is
when Anne is talking a lot and Mr. Van Daan tells her to be quiet. He keeps on talking about
telling her to be quiet. After that, Mr. Van Daan asks Anne a question, and she doesn’t respond.
She says, “Am I allowed to talk now?” Mr. Van Daan tells her that she is aggravating. All these
examples relate to how she is irritating.

The final character trait is that she is very curious. One example is when she asks why
Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan are fighting. Mr. Van Daan tells her, “This isn’t a quarrel! It’s a
discussion.” Then he calls her rude. She then goes somewhere else. This example shows how
Anne was curious. Another example showing that she is curious is when Peter is burning his Star
of David. She asks why he did that, and he said that if we’re never going outside, why do we
have it on? After that, Anne tried to burn it and take it off, but she couldn’t

Anne at the End

At the end of “The Diary of Anne Frank”, Anne goes through a lot of different changes.
One of the changes that she goes through is that she gets more interested in Peter. One example
is when Peter takes Anne’s cake to her, they start talking. Peter talks to her about something.
Anne then starts a conversation with him. Another example is when she goes to talk to Peter in
his room and he talks about how Anne has changed. They ask each other questions and talk
about what happened before they went into hiding. Also, when they told Mr. Van Daan to leave,
Peter said he was going to leave too, and Anne started crying because she does not want Peter to
go. That is one way that Anne changes.

Another way she changes is that she got older and started to be more grown-up. An
example of this is that when she goes to see Peter, she puts on Margot’s clothes because she has
outgrown her own clothes. This explains that she is getting taller, older, and more grown-up.
Another example is when she talks to Peter at almost the end of the story, she talks about religion
and things related to it. Peter gets confused and Anne keeps explaining it to him. This shows how
Anne changes through the story.

I believe that Anne changed because she was hiding from the Nazis and maybe a lot more
other reasons. She changed because she was growing up. When she got older, she started to
develop more thinking strategies. She also became more interested in Peter and her life. She also
changed because of all her surroundings. The Nazis were attacking outside, and that made
everybody scared. She had to get along with everybody in the house. She also changed because
of her mother, her father, Peter, and the other people around her. Anne changed a lot and her life
progressed throughout the story.
