NATIONAL DRILLING & SERVICES COMPANY

AN OMAN-BASED DRILLING CONTRACTOR

COMPANY PROFILE
National Drilling & Services Company LLC (NDSC) was incorporated in the
Sultanate of Oman in April 1990 as a joint-venture company between the
owners of GALFAR Engineering & Contracting LLC (70%) and FORASOL
S.A. (30%). NDSC became a wholly-owned subsidiary of United Gulf Energy
Resources SAOC (UGER), whose shareholding is identical to that of NDSC, in
April 1999.
GALFAR, established in 1972, is one of the Sultanate’s largest and best known
Omani-owned engineering and contracting companies with corporate offices in
Muscat from where it’s core business is managed. GALFAR also has business
activities in the UAE, Qatar, Brunei and other countries outside the Gulf.
FORASOL, established in 1958, is an international drilling contractor with
onshore and offshore operations in more than 20 countries and headquarters in
Velizy, France. In March 1997 FORASOL became a wholly-owned subsidiary
of PRIDE INTERNATIONAL of Houston, Texas following their merger.
PRIDE, headquartered in Houston, Texas is a premier drilling and well
servicing contractor, providing a broad range of onshore and offshore drilling
related services in more than 20 countries. PRIDE is a pioneer developer of
deepwater drilling techniques with offshore assets ranging from platform and
jackup rigs to semisubmersibles and state-of-the-art, ultra deepwater DP
drillships.
NDSC is managed in Muscat by Group General Manager Pat O’Shaughnessy
who reports to a Board of Directors: Mohamed Rashid Al-Araimi (Chairman),
P. Mohamed Ali (Galfar), Gary Casswell (Pride) and John O'Leary (Pride).
NDSC’s corporate objective is to provide quality drilling and drilling-
related services to clients in Oman and the Middle East by offering
excellent standards of efficiency, quality, safety and training. The
company’s particular aim is to provide technically superior performance to
that of it's competitors.
OPERATIONS BACKGROUND
NDSC commenced the largest onshore turnkey drilling program ever awarded
in the oil industry when operations started in August 1991 for Petroleum
Development Oman (PDO) to develop the Lekhwair field amongst the sand
dunes of North Oman.
Using two new, purpose-built, fast-moving, desert drilling rigs NDSC
committed to drill up to 168 wells to a depth of 1,350 meters. By December
1992 NDSC had completed 83 wells in Lekhwair, four months ahead of PDO’s
target but, due to increasing geological complexity, PDO was obliged to modify
the field development plan and commence drilling horizontal wells to better
optimize production and water injection profiles. NDSC was invited to continue
the turnkey project by including horizontal wells to the original workscope, the
first time a drilling contractor had ever drilled horizontal wells under turnkey.
Upon completion of the Lekhwair Turnkey Project, NDSC was awarded new
contracts for it’s rigs with PDO and continues to execute those contracts today
in the Lekhwair and Al-Huweisah oilfields of North Oman.
NEW RIGS
In 1996 NDSC purchased a heavy land drilling rig (Rig-10) from the USA to to
drill deep (5,000 meter) gas wells for The Bahrain National Oil Company
(BANOCO) in the Awali field of Bahrain. Operations ended in April 2000 with
the completion of four (4) pre-Khuff gas wells and seven (7) Khuff workovers.
Rig-10 is now drilling the second of two (2) deep exploration wells for NIMIR
PETROLEUM OMAN BV in Block 3. The rig is expected to be busy from
Sptember 2000 to March 2001 for NIMIR.
During 1998 NDSC added a second heavy land rig (BI-2000) to it’s fleet by
entering into an exclusive agreement with the Oil & Natural Gas Corporation of
India (ONGC) to use of one of it’s drilling rigs from eastern India. This rig
completed two (2) 4,500 meter exploration wells in Oman’s Block 35 for
JAPEX MONTASAR LTD and was demob’d back to India.

OTHER ACTIVITIES
In line with it's corporate objective, NDSC has agency agreements with a
number of companies whose services are complimentary to it's own and which
allow the company greater exposure to it’s oil industry clients. These
agreements are with such high profile companies as ANDERGAUGE,
Aberdeen, Scotland (downhole adjustable stabilizers), GYRODATA, Houston,
Texas (north-seeking gyros) and WILD WELL CONTROL, Houston, Texas.

PERSONNEL
Pat O’Shaughnessy’s operations team in Muscat includes Drilling
Superintendents Richard McDermott, Nasser Rashid Al-Araimi and Jabar Al-
Mukhaini. Srijit Choudhury manages finance and administration. The Safety
Team is led by Johnny Menezes who is assisted by an Omani safety advisor,

OMANIZATION
NDSC employs around 240 people many of whom are Omanis holding
technical and management positions in the company. These positions include
Drilling Engineers and Drilling Superintendents, two very key functions in the
drilling industry. The overall percentage of Omanis working in Oman exceeds
60% of the operations workforce.
NDSC’s intention is to agressively pursue it’s Omanization program in the
future. The company’s experience is that well trained, and properly motivated,
Omanis have shown themselves to be capable of managing the company’s
drilling operations to the highest standards of the oil industry.
