Artificial Intelligence

Objectives:

To know the Artificial Intelligence deeper, how does it work, its advantage and disadvantages.

Summary:

Artificial intelligence is designing machines that have the ability to think. It is

the intelligence of machines. Artificial intelligence is complex in nature. It uses a very
complicated mixture of computer science, mathematics and other complex sciences. Complex
programming helps these machines replicate the cognitive abilities of human beings.

Positive Reaction:

Error Reduction, artificial intelligence helps us in reducing the error and the chance of
reaching accuracy with a greater degree of precision. Difficult Exploration, artificial intelligence
and the science of robotics can be put to use in mining and other fuel exploration processes.
Daily Application, computed methods for automated reasoning, learning and perception have
become a common phenomenon in our everyday lives. We have our lady Siri or Cortana to help
us out. Digital Assistants, highly advanced organizations use ‘avatars’ which are replicas or
digital assistants who can actually interact with the users, thus saving the need for human
resources. Repetitive Jobs, repetitive jobs which are monotonous in nature can be carried out
with the help of machine intelligence. Machines think faster than humans and can be put to
multi-tasking.  Medical Applications, in the medical field also, we will find the wide application
of AI. Doctors assess the patients and their health risks with the help of artificial machine
intelligence. It educates them about the side effects of various medicines. No Breaks,
machines, unlike humans, do not require frequent breaks and refreshments. They are
programmed for long hours and can continuously perform without getting bored or distracted
or even tired.

Negative Reaction:

High Cost, creation of artificial intelligence requires huge costs as they are very complex
machines. Their repair and maintenance require huge costs. No Replicating Humans,
intelligence is believed to be a gift of nature. An ethical argument continues, whether human
intelligence is to be replicated or not. No Improvement with Experience, unlike humans,
artificial intelligence cannot be improved with experience. With time, it can lead to wear and
tear. It stores a lot of data but the way it can be accessed and used is very different from human
intelligence. No Original Creativity, do you want creativity or imagination? These are not the
forte of artificial intelligence. While they can help you design and create, they are no match to
the power of thinking that the human brain has or even the originality of a creative mind.
Unemployment , replacement of humans with machines can lead to large-scale unemployment.

Conclusion:

The very idea to create artificial intelligence is to make the lives of humans easier.
Researchers of artificial intelligence want to bring in the emotional quotient to the machines
along with the general intelligence. So, is it a boon or a bane to the future of human existence?
For me, it is still an ongoing debate.

Internet of Things

Objectives:

To be able to know and learn how does Internet of Things really work, its impact,
advantages and disadvantages.

Summary:

The term Internet of Things generally refers to scenarios where network connectivity
and computing capability extends to objects, sensors and everyday items not normally
considered computers, allowing these devices to generate, exchange and consume data with
minimal human intervention.

Positive Reaction:

Data, the more the information, the easier it is to make the right decision. Knowing
what to get from the grocery while you are out, without having to check on your own, not only
saves time but is convenient as well. Tracking, the computers keep a track both on the quality
and the viability of things at home. Knowing the expiration date of products before one
consumes them improves safety and quality of life. Also, you will never run out of anything
when you need it at the last moment. Time, the amount of time saved in monitoring and the
number of trips done otherwise would be tremendous. Money, the financial aspect is the best
advantage. This technology could replace humans who are in charge of monitoring and
maintaining supplies.

Negative Reaction:

Compatibility, as of now, there is no standard for tagging and monitoring with sensors. A
uniform concept like the USB or Bluetooth is required which should not be that difficult to do.
Complexity, there are several opportunities for failure with complex systems. For example, both
you and your spouse may receive messages that the milk is over and both of you may end up
buying the same. That leaves you with double the quantity required. Or there is a software bug
causing the printer to order ink multiple times when it requires a single cartridge.
Privacy/Security, privacy is a big issue with IoT. All the data must be encrypted so that data
about your financial status or how much milk you consume isn’t common knowledge at the
work place or with your friends. Safety, there is a chance that the software can be hacked and
your personal information misused. The possibilities are endless. Your prescription being
changed or your account details being hacked could put you at risk. Hence, all the safety risks
become the consumer’s responsibility.

Conclusion:

Although IoT has quite a few disadvantages, its advantages of saving the consumer time
and money can’t be ignored. So the time isn’t far when the Internet Of Things will be commonly
seen in both households and companies. Efforts will have to be made to find ways to combat its
disadvantages.
