Guard Your Spirit
“Take heed to your spirit.” In the
closing book of the Old Testament,
we read this admonition twice
(Malachi 2:15-16). The minor

spirits do affect aspects of our lives.
The news media is destroying hope
in our society, influencing the public
to live in a state of unrelenting
panic over economic, social, and
spiritual matters. The word, spirit,
in this context refers to our personal
prevailing attitudes. The prevailing
attitude of the Christian must be
one of HOPE, the anticipation of
good in the near future. Born-again
believers must live with the
knowledge that good does happen,
is happening, and will continue to
happen for God’s people.

The prevailing attitude of the
Christian must also be
HEAVENWARD. In Philippians
3 :2 0 , w e r ea d : “ F or ou r
conversation is in heaven…” We
sing, “I‟ve heard of a land that is
wondrously fair; they say that its
splendor is far beyond compare. In
that place that‟s called „heaven,‟ my
soul longs to be; for where Jesus is,
it will be heaven for me. Heaven for
me, heaven for me—Jesus will be
what makes it heaven for me.”
Our prevailing spirit must also be
one that includes HUMILITY. In
James 4:6, we read: “God
resisteth the proud, but giveth
grace unto the humble.” When a
person walks humbly before God, he
will possess a positive spirit.
May we be challenged to guard our
prevailing attitudes and not allow
this world or its philosophies to
capture our spirits.

Where Will I Spend Eternity? Your relationship to

Jesus Christ is central to the answer to that question.
Our Dilemma:
We are, by nature, sinners who stand guilty and condemned before our Creator and Judge. In our
thoughts and actions, we have disobeyed His perfect standards. We are sinners (Romans 3:10, 23).
Our Inability:
We are helpless to save ourselves. Forgiveness is a gift to be received, not a reward that can be earned.
We need a Saviour (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Our Saviour:
Because of His love for us, God provided salvation through His Son, Jesus. He became a member of the
human family, lived without sin, and died on the cross to pay for our sins. Jesus is the Saviour (Romans
5:8; John 3:16).
Our Response:
Salvation is an individual matter and requires a personal response on the part of anyone that wants to be
saved. All who acknowledge their sin and place their trust in Christ are adopted as God’s children
(Romans 10:9, 13).
