Windows Server 2012

Windows Server 2012 is in fact the user interface might just be worse than Windows 8
surprisingly is shockingly I didn’t know how they did it but they actually made a server
interface that is more confusing than Windows 8 once you can get past the user interface
though it is very good robust and functional server operating system and it is something that
you should be looking at to learn and deploy into your companies or organizations now the
thing that I will tell you Microsoft gets a bad rap for their client operating systems Windows
95 ABCD and E Windows 98 windows 98 second edition Windows millennium so on and so
forth their client operating system can be a bit of nightmare but I will tell you having dealt
with Windows servers over the years , Windows servers are genuinely very good things the
last time I had a big problem with Windows service was all the way back with Windows NT
4.0 what almost 13 years ago now and even those were very manageable many of the
problems that people complain about really weren’t quite as bad as it was made out to be
but once they went to Windows 2000 once they went to Active Directory once things got
more stable within the opera the server operating system environment I have found
Windows servers are generally good things , you do have to spend money for the server
operating system and for client access licenses .

Microsoft is that they have do have 180 day trials of the Windows 2012 server OS so these
are fully functional trials Active Directory security policies work organizational units work
VPN works all the stuff works it is just limited to a hundred and eighty day usage so it is very
nice with these trials is you can create massive computer labs doing everything that
Windows Server will do and it will work until it work for you there’s no problem you don’t to
spend any money for that as far as Hardware goes because I know a lot of you guys get
really worried about server hardware your like UI server hardware what are we gonna do
well with the 2012 a server you don’t need very much hardware in order for it to work it will
work off couple of year old computers .
Windows 2012 server does detect all the hardware and does install drivers for all the
hardware, it install for some of the hardware generic drivers so there are not actually
Windows 8 or Windows 2012 server drivers that I can download from the vendor so one
issues that I have is things like the video card on my laptop computers there’s not the
specific proprietary driver from the Gateway for Windows 8 or Windows 2012 so the
resolution is not crystal clear perfect like it should be but that’s the only issue that I’ve seen
so far with using Windows 2012 on crappy old computers is that you have some of these
generic drivers issues and you know it’s a test system .
Windows 2012 servers one of the big warnings that I do have to give you though is that this
is the first server operating system that is only 64-bits so we’ve been talking about a long
time now we used to have 32 – bit processors CPUs and 64- bit processor CPUs 32 – bit
operating system 64 – bit OS we have been slowly on migration migrating from 32- bit to
64-bit so way back on windows Xp they had 32-bit version of Windows XP and then they did
it actually have 64-bit version off Windows XP that nobody ever used I only saw that once
out in the wild nobody used the 64-bit then when they went to Vista they had 32-bit
versions and 64-bit versions sometimes you would see the 64-bit version sometimes you see
the 32-bit version and they were out there . Windows 7 almost 64-bit versions now but they
do have 332-bit versions .
Windows Server 2012 there is no 32-bit versions of its only a 64-bit Operating System .
Its important if you are using older hardware in order to try to run Windows 2000 server
2012 if the processor in it is only a 32-bit processor then it will not work .
Once you start deploying Windows 2000 server 2012 is that you may have a lot of legacy
applications , these applications that may have been in your company. The issue is if the
software only runs on 32-bit machines if you want to try install it onto a windows 2012 it
won’t work.
Windows 2012 the Four versions they you have to keep in mind when you’re going to be
using Windows Server 2012 is they have data center version , is for basically if your running
data center pushing a lot of data of data around the big things , you can have unlimited
virtual instances of operating system using hyper-v is Microsoft’s virtualization solution
Standard you get basically all the functionality of the data at the data center at version but
its limit you for the number of instances of virtual servers you can run on that particular
piece of hardware so that’s what you should look out for now if you’re going to deploying to
be using Windows Server 2012 in the real world generally you are going to be using
standard edition basically does everything you need .
Two versions of Windows Server 2012
Essential version and foundation servers these servers are made for small office very small
office environments they are incredibly limited and they can just cause you all kinds of
problems if you don’t understand how to deploy a server so that it functions properly for a
particular client
Foundation versions is limited to like only 12 users and essentials versions limited to only 25
users
Install Windows Server 2012
Couple of options for installing it. It will give you the option for what is called server core or
the GUI interface.
Server core – came out with Windows Server 2008, no GUI ( graphical user interface) just
install the operating System and you get a blinking cursor it’s a PowerShell cursor.
GUI interface – it is better to use.

Windows Server 2012 stand out is the ability to store and move data in much more efficient way.
Self- healing NTFS that is built – in to Windows Server 2012 automatically basically does a scan disk
routine all of the time to make sure files don’t get corrupted and to fix any corruptions found .

Windows Server and with Windows 8 is the addition of smb3play server message block this is the
protocol that allows to copy and paste and move files between computers and servers within the
windows world so when mapping a network drive in the windows world and paste a file or copy a
file or deleted a file all done with SMB .

SMB 3.0 increase the file the transfer rate between computers and servers 10 to 13 times faster than
the old SMB 1 versions in Windows XP, this is a great thing to do there’s just added functionality,
there’s added security with SMB 3.0. It is only works in Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8
computers.

Windows 7 – uses called SMB 2.1

Data Deduplication-

Storage spaces is an implementation of a storage area network ace and for Microsoft allows to do
use network storage like raid configurations.

Hypervisor virtualizations is that if one of the physical server dies the data is still available to
everybody on the network depending how you set up it up if two server dies your data is still
available to everybody on the network, the data is no longer concretely linked to hardware it goes
into one of these storage spaces .
