Company Presentation
Founded in 1963 by Mr Licini (ENI Group Mgr.) as A.M.I. S.r.l. to produce butterfly lined
valves up to 24”; the company changed its name to Orton Italiana, becoming an
international leader in the manufacture of triple eccentric metal and rubber seated butterfly
valves, together with butterfly control valves used in many industries.
In 1982 Orton started the production of Double Eccentric Rubber Seated and in 1987 the
production of Triple Eccentric Metal Seated Valves. Already in 1992 Orton has been certified
by Det Norske Veritas for its compliance with ISO 9001.
In 1993 the company was acquired by the British multinational group FCx International, a
leading supplier of specialist flow control products with a presence on each continent.
In March 1996 the company relocated to new larger facilities covering a total area of 12,000
sq/m including factory, warehouse and offices. The new facilities are located at S. Nicolò a
Trebbia, very near Milan international airport (Malpensa).
In 2001 Orton was certified by DNV for its compliance with PED regulation–CE Mark.
In 2002 FCx International awarded to Orton factory the Royal Cryogenic butterfly valve
production; in order to strengthen Orton presence in the cryogenic valve market.
In May 2006 Orton was acquired by the British multinational group IMI plc. as part of the
Flow Control Division – Severe Service, present on a worldwide basis to cover demand on
very specific severe applications.
Due to the increasing demand for valves in cryogenic applications, in 2003 Orton plant has
been extended by enlarging the factory and the construction of a huge bunker to perform
High Pressure Gas tests and Cryogenic tests, realized in a safe and protected external area.
Starting from October 2007, Orton has initiated the relocation of offices and manufacturing
plant from San Nicolò a Trebbia to Piacenza in an area of approximately 56,000 sqm. With a
covered area of almost 18.000 sqm. A brand new building for machining shop is under
construction.
A state-of-the-art high pressure and cryogenic testing facility is already available so that
valves up to 120” of size and pressure to cover ASME class 2500 can be tested undergoing
the most stringent safety measures. Orton manufacturing capacity will be doubled within
middle of 2009.
Orton main purpose is to meet the Customers requirements in terms of high quality
products and quick answer to the demand. In 2004 the company obtained certification by
DNV for its compliance with ATEX regulation. In the same year, a new Orton sales office in
Houston was opened to support the North American market.
The application of Orton products has been extended during the years, thanks to captioned
research and engineering. In quality driven markets, from petrochemicals to cryogenics,
power generation to offshore, processing to shipbuilding, Orton’s long experience is
everywhere recognized.
The company is committed to component integrity, reliability and repeatability achieved
with integrated state–of-the-art CAD/CAM facilities.
Nowadays, Orton serves clients worldwide, producing and marketing approximately 10,500
valves per year; and dealing with End Users, Engineering and Contractors.
