New York, NY – January 7, 2010 – The Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD) will be holding
its mid-winter meeting next week, in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Ponce was selected to host the meeting in order
to celebrate the newly completed expansion at the Museo de Arte de Ponce. In addition to its regular
schedule of committee meetings and information-sharing sessions for members, members will also attend
or participate in:
• a keynote address by Rocco Landesman, Chairman, National Endowment for the Arts
• a panel discussion about issues faced by museums across the Caribbean
• a discussion of strategies for addressing the issues raised by the recent situation at the National
Portrait Gallery
• and a continuation of AAMD’s ongoing sessions about leadership development in the art museum
field.
Based on this schedule, shortly after the conclusion of the meeting AAMD expects to be able to announce
a number of outcomes, including the publication of its new guidelines on the fair use of digital images of
works of art, and selected research and data about the demographic trends in art museum leadership.
The Association of Art Museum Directors, representing 198 art museum directors in the US, Canada, and
Mexico, promotes the vital role of art museums throughout North America and advances the profession
by cultivating leadership and communicating standards of excellence in museum practice. Further
information about AAMD’s professional practice guidelines and position papers is available at
www.aamd.org.
