2011 Scholarship Contest
Entry Rules and Guidelines
1) Contest is open to high school students in the graduating classes of 2011
and 2012. Students must attend high school in the WKBN 27 four-county
viewing area: Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties in Ohio, and
Mercer County in Pennsylvania. Each student may submit only one entry.
There are no group entries permitted.
2) The entry form must be clearly filled out completely and attached to the
student’s entry with a paperclip. DO NOT STAPLE the entry form to
your entry.
3) The student’s name or school must NOT appear anywhere except
for the entry form.
4) Each entry will be judged on writing, creativity/originality of the idea, a
clear concept and the ability to follow directions.
5) One $1,500 college scholarship and $100 Savings Bond will be awarded to
one winner. Each of the five runners-up will be awarded a $100 Savings Bond.
6) The script must be the audio for a thirty-second Public Service
Announcement and be 150 words or less. The script must be
typed and on one sheet of paper.
7) The script must be a Public Service Announcement (PSA) for one and only
one of the charities on this flyer or as updated at wkbn.com and must be
able to air any time of the year.
8) Entries must be mailed to: Scholarship Contest, WKBN 27, P.O.
Box 59, Youngstown, Ohio 44501. Entries must be postmarked by
Friday, February 11, 2011. Each entry, once submitted, becomes the
property of WKBN 27.
9) WKBN 27 reserves the right to edit entries. WKBN reserves the right to
use the name, address, and/or likeness of the winner and runners-up in
promotional opportunities.
10) Illegible or incomplete entries will be disqualified. WKBN 27 and all
sponsors are not responsible for lost entries.
11) Employees of WKBN 27, New Vision Television and all Caring for Our
Community sponsors and their families are NOT eligible to enter.
12) WKBN 27 and all sponsors reserve the right to alter, amend or change
these rules and regulations without prior notice. Judge’s decisions are
final.
13) Contest void wherever prohibited by any law, statute, enactment, or
ordinance of any state, municipality, city, town, county or political
subdivision.
14) For a complete list of rules and/or names or prize winners, send a SASE
to WKBN 27, P.O. Box 59, Youngstown, Ohio 44501. Requests must be
received by April 1, 2011.
Tips for a Winning Script
1) Choose a charity from the list provided. Research the charity.
2) Come up with an original idea for your Public Service Announcement,
focusing on the area indicated on the charity list. Then, write an attention
getting script that flows and gets the message across to your audience.
3) A unique idea will set it apart from the other entries. Choose your words
carefully.
4) Remember, you are writing a thirty-second PSA. Read your script out Attention High School Students!
