You’re Truth vs. My Truth
We live in a world that is defined by what is known
as “postmodernism.” While there are varying con-
clusions from this mindset, one of the most com-
mon is that those who hold to postmodernism state
that there is no such thing as “absolute truth.”
Another basic tenet of postmodernism is that what
one believes is not “right” or “wrong,” but simply is
“okay,” so long as it makes one feel okay. In fact,
one of the more common statements we hear is
that “you have your truth and I have mine.” Or, to
say it another way, “That’s just the way you believe.
I’ll believe what I want.”
This last statement shows what is at the real heart
of postmodern thinking. It is based upon nothing
more than selfishness. “I’ll believe what I want.” If
we can remove the idea of absolute truth, then peo-
ple are “free” to believe whatever they choose.
What is a Biblical response to this mindset? We
cannot just say, “I don’t like it.” We need to have a
Bible-centered answer to prove this mindset is
wrong, and to combat it. Here are two things to
keep in mind.
