IOBJECTIVES
A.Content Standards The learners demonstrate understanding of grouping different materials based on
their properties
B. Performance Standards The learners should be able to recognize and practice proper handling of
products
C.Most Essential Learning Classify materials based on the ability to absorb water, float, sink, undergo
Competencies (MELC) decay;
D. Enabling Competencies Classify materials based on the ability to absorb water, float, sink, undergo

IV.PROCEDURES
What’s new?
Tell the learners to look at the sets of materials prepared by the teacher.
B. Development
What I know?
Do you want to know the different properties/ classifications of
1|Page
solid materials based on their ability to absorb water, float or sink
and undergo decay?
You will need the following materials:
• Tissue paper
• Rubber balls
• Cotton balls
• sponge
• Cloth
Do the following:
Begin the experiment by filling the dropper with water and putting some onto
each material. Observe what happens.
Group the objects into two.
What’s in?
1. W Solid can be classify based on its ability to absorb water. Some solids
can absorb water and some do not. How do you know if the mataerials
can absorb water?
2. Based on the activity, how do you classy solids?
3. What is porous and non porous materials?
What is it?
Watch a video clips about the ability of solid to absorb water.
What’s more?
C.Engagement
Put a check if the material can absorb water and a cross if it does not absorb
water.
1. Towel
2. Stone
3. Plastic spoon
4. Tissue paper
5. cotton
Patty was carrying a pail of water but suddenly she slips on the floor and spills
the water. Which of the following materials should she use in cleaning the

spilled water? Explain your answer.
A. Cloth
B. Rug made of rubber
C. Tissue paper
Remember:
The ability of materials to absorb water depends on the
chemical nature of the material. The lower the density of the
material is the greater it absorbs water because it has spaces
filled with air which absorbs water very easily and all the spaces
quickly fill up.
Porous materials are materials are materials having small holes
that allow air or liquid to pass through.
Non- Porous materials are materials that do not allow air or
liquid to pass thro
Observe the things in your house. Draw 3 objects that cam absorb water and 3
objects that do not absorb water.
V. REFLECTION
The learners will write their personal insights about the lesson.
