I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
The subject aim to develop critical perspective in understanding the popular culture in the Philippines. It will emphasis on the popular
culture in new forms in arts, music, and literature based on the opportunities and demand of the masses, businesses and as well as
mass media. It will also help the student to analyze the social, economic, and political contexts of popular culture of the country.
In addition, students will be equipped in understanding the role of culture in developing the identity of the as well as being a member of
this society as a citizen in the different media of culture like visual, cinema, music, popular prints and publications, radio, and television,
fashions, ads, cyber space etc. and look on how these products of culture affects the present social relations and life in different
challenges of time.

II. LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, the students should be able to:

L.O 3 – Explain the nature of ethnocentrism, xenocentrism and cultural relativism and how they affect human behavior
L.O 4 – Discuss and describe the importance Filipino culture as well as its major cultural values.
L.O 5 – Distinguish the difference of pop culture with other type of culture
L.O 6 – Analyze the importance and differences of Post Modern Culture and Popular Culture
L.O 7 – Analyze and examine the popular culture in the Philippines in different forms through the years

VII. CLASSROOM POLICIES


1. Course Requirements and Submission: Deadline of submission of each requirements must be strictly followed. Late papers will not be
accepted.
2. Examination: Examination/quizzes must be taken according to schedule; a special examination maybe given provided that the student
has a valid reason(s),and with corresponding excuse letter signed by his/her parent/guardian with necessary attachment such as medical
certificate (in case of sickness) and / or other reference. No privilege is given to student to take missed quiz or quizzes.
3. Missed class session: If there is a requirement/paper needed for a particular schedule, missing the class session is not an excuse for the
student not to comply with what is due.

IX. FACILITATOR’S PROFILE


Mr. Ordinal is an instructor in the Department of Social Sciences of the Air Link International Aviation College. He teaches social science
courses. His teaching career began in 2002 at the Lourdes School of Mandaluyong. He also taught at Colegio de San Juan de Letran. He
taught courses in social sciences such as Philippine History, Asian Studies, World History as well as business subjects such as Basic
Accounting, Entrepreneurship and Marketing for junior high school. In senior high school, he taught social sciences and religion courses
Understanding Culture, Society and Politics; Community Solidarity and Citizenship; Capuchin Franciscan Spirituality. Mr. Ordinal is an
alumnus of National Teachers College. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree in teaching social sciences at De La Salle University
in Dasmariñas City, Cavite.
