USING OUR CORELDRAW TEMPLATES – FOR BEGINNERS

We have assembled a short tutorial to show the novice user, how to go about using the templates we
provide with our printing systems in Coreldraw ™

We very strongly recommend doing a basic Coreldraw course covering the basics needed for novelty
printing. To this end, we have identified a service provider who teaches this – call us for details.

STEP 1
Run Coreldraw, and then click on FILE, OPEN (see below).

STEP 2
Browse the CD with the Templates that we have given you and go to the directory Marked TEMPLATES
\ CORELDRAW.

Now select the template that you want to use (for a mug, or tot glass, or puzzle etc)

For this example, we’re going to make a heart shaped puzzle, so we select the template for the heart
shaped puzzle, and then click OPEN.

When it opens, we will see an outline of the puzzle that we want to make.

STEP 3
Now we want to IMPORT the photo that we want to place into the heart shape.
In Coreldraw, to open something already saved in Coredraw format, you click on FILE, OPEN.

When you want to open a photo or file in any format other than Coreldraw (such as a jpg, tif etc), you
use the FILE, IMPORT command (see below).

Select the image you want to use, and press the IMPORT button.

We will now see the image in Coreldraw, next to the template we want to place it into.

STEP 4
We now need to change the size of our image (either make it larger or smaller, to fit into our template).
To do this, we click on the image once. This will make the small square blocks you see surrounding the
image above appear.

Now release the mousebutton, and while holding the SHIFT button on the keyboard down, click with the
mouse on any of the corner blocks of the image.

The cursor will turn into the

“cross” you see on the left
(note that it’s been enlarged
here to make it easier to see –
in reality it’s much smaller).

Now DRAG this cursor

outwards to make the photo
bigger, or drag it towards the
center of the photo to make the
photo smaller.

STEP 5
Once the image is the correct size, we can move onto the next step – placing the image into the
template.
To do this, make sure that your image / photo is selected (clicking on it, will select it).

Click on Effects, Powerclip, Place inside container.

As soon as you select this menu, a black arrow will appear. Place this arrow inside the template you
want to use, and click the left mouse button.

The program will now insert your photo, within the confines of the template we’ve chosen (in this case
the heart).

We can now go ahead and print our item. As the photo is now bound within the confines of the template
shape, we can move it around as we please.

A SPECIAL NOTE FOR USE OF THE CLOCK TEMPLATE

The clock template consists of 2 separate layers. The one layer is round part of the clock, and the 2nd
layer is the numbers and indicators on the dial.

This allows you to adjust the colours of the numbers and indicators separate to the clock once you’ve
inserted your image, but also means that an extra step has to be performed (group), should you wish to
move the completed clock around the page, once you’ve finished editing it.

We start our example at the point of having already placed our image into the clock template (using the
steps shown on the previous pages).

As you can see from the image above, although we now have a nice looking clock, the numbers and
indicators on the clock are the wrong colour for the image.

As this template is made of 2 layers though, we can easily change the colour of the numbers and
indicators on the clock.

Changing the colours of the clock indicators and numbers

1. Click on the Tool Shown by the arrow (1). This is the pick tool.

This toolbar can also run top to bottom on some installations of Coreldraw. In this case, this tool will
be found on the top left (as shown below).

2. Click anywhere in empty space (2) to deselect the image.

3. Click on any of the indicators / numbers of the clock dial (3).

4. Click on the colour you want to change these indicators to (4).

GROUP THE CLOCK AND THE INDICATORS TOGETHER

If you intend to move the clock then you will need to “group” all the items together, otherwise they won’t
all move together (you will end up moving the indicators, or the clock, but not both).

Once grouped, you won’t be able to change the colour of the dials again, unless you “ungroup”.

STEP 1
Using the same pick tool used on the previous page, draw a block around the image (this is the blue
dotted line you see below)

This will select the image.

STEP 2
Click on Arrange, Group

Once done, you can go

ahead and move the entire
image, as you please, and
print it as you please.

We very strongly
recommend doing a basic
Coreldraw course covering
the basics needed for
novelty printing. To this end,
we have identified a service
provider who teaches this –
