Interesting tit bit facts about Sri Vyasrayaru & Sri Vadirajaru
-- collected by Sri VishnuKiran L.S

There is a story of how Sri Vadiraja Swami opened an old treasurey for Achyuta Devaraya in a time of
monetary crisis. The crisis was probably due to the invasion by Gajapathi of Orissa and in allied
Mahammadans which is referred to him Allasani Peddanna’s chatuverses (and in the inscription of No
256 of Madras Epigraphist’s collection for 1910). The year was saka 1451, the very year of Achyuta
Devaraya’s reign. – V. Venkoba Rao, Vyasayogi Charitham

Sri Vyasaraya Swamy was not only the Chancellor of the University Vijayanagara but also the guardian
saint of the Vijayanagara Empire. The manner in which this postion of Sri Vyasaraja as a Guardian saint
grew from strength to strength has been beautifully expressed by Somanatha. To the first Emperor Salva
narasimha I, Sri Vyasaraja was like Dattatreya to Kartaveeryarjuna. To the second Emperor Salva
Narasimha I otherwise known as Tammaraja, Sri Vyasrajaru was like Brihaspathi to Indra. To Narasa
King, Sri Vyasaraja Swamy became the guardian angle like Badarayana and Sri Krishna to the sons of
Pandu and Kunthi. As the sons of Kunthi worshipped Sri Krishna in Rajasuya though there were
enemies like Sisupala the son of Damagosha, the Narasa worshipped Sri Vyasaraja though there were
enemies who did not like that Vyasaraja Swamy should attain that position. When veera Narasimha
came to the throne, he worshipped Sri Vyasaraja Swamy moer than his father, as Dasharatha
worshipped Vasishta more than his father Aja had done. – V. Gopala Krishna Rao in a brief sketch of
Three Mutts

Sri Lord Venkateshwara had blessed Sri Vyasraja Swamy with a devine cloth (“Shesha Vasthra”). Even
today Vyasaraja mutt saints wear it on every Dwadashi day. – Korate Srinivasa Rao in Sri Vyasarayaru

As per Somanatha the poet, Basava Bhatta lost to Sri Vyasraja Swamy in tatvavada arguments during
Narasa nayaka’s reign. Sri Vallabhacharya visited Vijayanagara to meet Sri Vyasraja Swamy during this
period. Basava Bhatta handed over “Spatika Lingam” to Sri Vyasraja Swamy after the argumentation.
Even today this Lingam is worshipped with great celebration on Shivarathri day. – Korate Srinivasa Rao
in Sri Vyasarayaru

Sri Vyasraja Swamy did not complete writing Tatparya Chandrika, but left it after completing first two
chapters in a grand manner. When asked, Sri Vyararja Swamy about this mystery, he told that his tenth
deciple will complete it. In Sosale mutt lineage, the tenth deciple Sri Raghunatha Teertha Swamy
completed remaining parts of Tatparyma Chandrika to get a title “Shesha Chandirka Charyaru”. Sri
Raghunatha Teertha entered brindavan during 1742 AD in Sosale, T. Narasipur. – Korate Srinivasa Rao
in Sri Vyasarayaru

Contemporary of Sri Vyasaraja Swamy, Somanatha who was a poet during Vijayanagara Empire wrote
a “Vyasayogi charithe” in sanskruta. Similarly Sri Vijayendra Teertha Swamy wrote “Vyasarajabhyudaya”
in sanskruta language. – Korate Srinivasa Rao in Sri Vyasarayaru

“To those who seek material wealth and to those who desire ‘wealth of knowledge’, Shri Vyasraja is like
the Kalpavruksha. He, like a lion vanquished [in philosophical debates] the enemies, metaphorically
elephants. May [such a] Guru Vyasa Tirtha fulfill our desires, also”
