ProdbyJack Producer Marketing Tips & Gems

Hello, My name’s Jack known as ProdbyJack online and if you’re reading this you must
believe that I can help you grow your brand and presence online as a producer or in the
music industry in general?

Before we get into the tips let me tell you about myself and how I went from being a
nobody making beats in my bedroom to becoming one of the biggest youtube producers
with millions of views and selling tens of thousands of sound kits.

After all, why would you take advice from someone who can’t take their own?

So, i’ve been making beats now for 4-5 years at the time of writing this (19th of May
2020) i’m from the UK which is where i’ve always lived and i'm 20 years old right now.

That's really all you need to know about me as a person but let's get into how I got my
foot in the door as ProdbyJack. For me it was through my Youtube channel, this is a
very common method producers and people online in general use to get their name
around as it's free and one of the biggest social media platforms.

Back when i started in early 2018 the producer community didn't have many tutorial
channels delivering really high quality content.

This created an opportunity for me and it was how i found my niche (we will talk more
about your niche later) To be honest i actually never planned to be a tutorial youtuber i
just fell into it one day. Fast forward 2 years of consistent and high quality videos (and
some other tips and tricks we will talk about later) my Youtube channel has brought in
over 50,000 subscribers and 3 Million views.

At the time one of the biggest tutorial channels (I’d say top 10) and since we are
probably gonna go more in depth about income i was making around $1250-1500 per
month from Youtube ad revenue alone. That isn't including sponsored video’s in which I
would make up to $2500 per month from and my other unrelated revenue streams such
as kits, live streams etc.

Those numbers are there as living proof that becoming a successful producer/youtuber
online no matter your background or where you’re from is very achievable.
So that is a brief summary of my story and I'm sure some of you reading this will have
been around for a while and witnessed my come up first hand.

SO, let's get into the juicy part of this article and let me share with you some invaluable
tips & tricks i've learnt along the way which helped me turn my passion into a profitable
career.

Become GREAT at what you do

The MOST important thing when it comes to becoming successful online is you have to
be good at what you do.

These days when somebody wants to start making beats there are numerous resources
online to help them improve a lot quicker than when i and other producers from before
me started.

This means you don't have to spend years and years practicing to perfect your sound
and get to that level where people will take you seriously.

Use these resources, the most irritating thing for me as an influencer is when i have
producers messaging me daily asking me something they could ask Google and get
their answer instantly.

I don't think i need to stress to you guys how amazing the internet is right? USE IT.

Youtube is another amazing resource which can help you improve your beats, today in
2020 no matter what DAW you use, no matter your skill level or what language you
speak there are loads of creators like myself who create FREE tutorials and beat
making content for you to watch.

The sound kit game is popping right now, there are probably thousands of producers
releasing drum kits, midi packs, loop kits and more... Use them!

You aren't just supporting a fellow creator but you can learn a lot from these products.
For example if you want to start releasing kits observe, how was the kit released? Look
at the art work, how was it promoted? How many sounds are in there etc and you will
get the idea of how things should be done.
As a producer you can learn a lot from Midi kits, you can literally see first hand how
melodies were made as you have the notes in front of you.

Study the patterns and the fine details which separate a good melody from a great one
such as the velocities or the top line melody or the chords used. This is just an example
of how you can use other producers' content and improve your own sound, not all kits
cost money if you know where to look you can find freebies everywhere.

Sound selection is very important when it comes to making beats, having the best
sounds will give you a massive advantage when it comes to getting your beats to that
high standard.

If you’re just starting out making beats you probably don’t have the money to be blasting
on every new drum kit or loop pack that comes out, but that's okay.

I know a lot of producers who release kits aren't gonna be too happy about me sharing
this information with the masses but you can find a lot of the most popular kits on Reddit
for free (or trade) R/Drumkits is the forum and since it’s free and not going anywhere i
may as well share it.

Every big producer at some stage and probably still to this day uses forums like this to
get all the hottest sounds for free, so go ahead and check it out you’ll be surprised.

I do recommend investing in yourself, if you want to become a successful producer you

have to think of it as a business and not a hobby.

Get into that mindset and you will notice the improvements to your beats and brand in
general. For example, invest in VST’s (or plugins) i would recommend Omnisphere by
spectrasonics. Although it is very expensive especially for young producers it is 100%
worth it and you’ll have it forever, personally i've used it now for the last 3 years and
probably made over 25x back on my investment.

There are other great plugins and certainly cheaper ones, like i said before if you want
to find out what these are do some research, a great way of keeping up to date with the
latest and best VST is by watching producers on youtube make beats.

To finalise this chapter, just invest in yourself. Not just money but time and effort and
don't underestimate how far just being GREAT at what you do will take you.
First impressions are everything and in the saturated industry we are in there is no room
for producers with trash beats.

YOUTUBE

Let’s take it back to Youtube and some important tips to help you get those numbers
you want.

Firstly in my opinion the MOST important thing when it comes to posting on Youtube is
CONSISTENCY the biggest audience killer is inconsistent uploads and interactions with
your viewers.

Posting 3 times in one week then not for 2 months is not consistent and posting once
every 2 weeks is NOT consistent. This doesn't mean you have to post daily (although if
you can that would be amazing) but find what works for you and stick to it!

I’d say anything less than one great video per week isn't consistent enough. If you can
do one great video per week that's a good start, I personally post 3-4 times per week
and I find this gives me enough time to get the best video I can ready in good time.

Having an upload schedule is also a key factor when it comes to being consistent and
regular upload times will help to gather your audience and increase your views in the
first few hours of the video coming out.

The Algorithm

Believe it or not getting good numbers on youtube isnt just dumb luck, there is some
sience behind it and this is where the youtube algorithm comes into play.

Key factors that this system looks out for are “engagement” which means what
percentage of your viewers have watched this video in comparison to your other videos
(these figures take time to build up of course) and the average watch time.
So if your subscribers and people on youtube in general are enjoying your videos and
watching them for a considerable amount of time (a few minutes at least) then Youtube
will start to promote this video by pushing it to people who may or may not be
subscribed to you such as suggested videos and home pages as well.

So having attractive and eye catching thumbnails as well as engaging and entertaining
content is KEY. Obviously there is a lot more to the Youtube algorithm such as search
terms and hashtags, we could sit here and discuss these all day however i feel like if
you’re just starting out those two aspects of your videos should be your priority.

First Impressions Are Very Important!

Before somebody decides to click on a Youtube video, what is the first thing they see?

The title and the thumbnail. To gather your first 1,000 or starting audience you must
have both of these on point and here’s how you can achieve this.

Do some research, find creators with similar content to yourself and analyse their titles,
description and hashtags and see how their thumbnails look.

Don't copy but take inspiration from this and experiment to see what will work for you
and your audience.

This reminds me, your content needs to be good and not just good in your eyes but in
the eyes of others and your audience.

Imagine someone who’s never heard of you and never watched any of your videos
clicks on one and they see poor video quality and frame rate, awkward editing and
messed up audio.

There is a high probability that they are just going to click off that video before it even
starts and likely not watch you again for a while.

This is just an example of why you might not be getting the numbers you want.

Another quick tip is don’t be that guy who's intro to a video drags on for 2-3 minutes just
get straight to the point, introduce yourself and explain what you’re doing… then do it!
Be Yourself

This one doesn't really apply to you if you only post beats or content that isn't very
engaging but if you’re like me and post proper videos then just be yourself.

I know there are a lot of youtubers who get millions of views by being the typical
“Youtuber” very loud and in your face but the truth is most of these guys/girls aren't like
that in real life.

If you watch my videos you’ll notice that I'm very laid back and chilled just like I am in
person.

My point is being yourself is easier and your audience will respect you for it, so try it out.

Collaboration

An easy way to quickly grow your audience is to collaborate with another creator on a
video or product or in our case a beat.

This doesnt mean go and message Metro Boomin and say “Let's work bro” be realistic
and try to build genuine and mutually beneficial relationships with people in a similar
situation to yourself.

If you are approaching somebody else do it by leading with value and don’t ask them for
anything right away.

Trust me I get DM's every day from random people who I've never spoken to before and
have never done anything for me just straight up asking for my time.

Lets keep it relevant, if you want to work with another producer just open with “What’s
up bro, i really like your beats and respect what you do. That one beat with …… that
sounded like ….. Would sound crazy on that. Here’s some melodies i've made *insert
google drive/dropbox link* maybe we can work on something” Please dont copy and
paste that but you get the idea.

That's how i would approach somebody personally, if your beats are good and you take
the music stuff seriously you will get some responses.
Don’t get me wrong you are gonna get ignored by a lot of people because that's just
how it is, maybe it's not the right time or maybe they forgot to reply or are too busy.

It's all good just keep it moving and stay focused, the worst thing you can do is continue
to bother that person further.

A great tip I learned from my good friend and fellow producer Jackson Romaine is when
you do build a connection with someone just make sure you keep that connection alive
and keep the interactions with that person consistent.

Don’t just do one or two beats then never speak again, whether it's a like on an
Instagram picture or DM’s just show love and keep that person around.

If you’re a Youtuber a basic video collaboration with another Youtuber is an easy way to
gain more subscribers and reach people who like similar content to your own.

Brand Identity
Brand identity is very important especially when it comes to getting big on youtube, if
you watch another successful creator you’ll notice there is a repetitive theme or pattern
with their videos.

This is all part of their brand identity and this helps you to grow on social media.

For example having repetitive or similar thumbnails for each video, or the same style of
titles or video tags. Various factors that make up a video, if kept consistent add to your
brand identity and make it easy for people to find you and recognise your videos.

For me my videos didn't start to reach the 100,000 view mark until i found a thumbnail
and title format that worked for me and stuck to it.

Once i established my brand identity my videos started blowing up like crazy and people
on youtube could easily recognise a video of mine and associated that with a good
video.

My point here is definitely to experiment with different formats as I've mentioned but
once you find something that does better than the rest just stick to it.
How To Support Yourself
Now once you start posting on Youtube it does take a long time to build up your
audience to the point where you are in the position to start getting paid from your
Youtube views.

To keep yourself afloat you obviously need a business plan, for me when i started
Youtube to make money i used my views to sell my sound kits.

This helped pay for the essentials and helped me put as much time into my Youtube
and brand to grow it.

You don't have to sell kits, you can hustle and make money on the side however you
want.

Find ways to provide value to your audience outside of your standard video content and
monetise that so you can avoid distractions such as working a standard job enabling
you to dedicate as much time as you can to your brand online.

There is nothing wrong with working a 9/5 job especially when you're just starting out it
can be a great way to raise funds to invest into your music career.

Producer Community Advice

Before we finish off, my friend Game or as you probably know him Busyworksbeats has
been kind enough to share some knowledge with us on marketing.

This comes from the very top of the food chain in the producer community, game is one
of the reasons I'm here today so let’s dive right into this invaluable message.

Game, BusyWorksBeats.com

For the small percentage of you who actually opened this and read these words, you’re
among the top 1%. More than 99 percent of people will just download the document,
say they downloaded it, and never open it until their next lifetime. But you’ve shown you
have the Desire...
To those who wish to market, do as no one else does and you will do just fine.

If I present 99 red roses to you and only one black rose, the black rose will instantly
stand out.

Instead of fighting the battle of how bright your red is, how textured your red is, and how
lush and vibrant your red is as compared to the others....just be black.

You’ll barely have to do any work. That’s working Smarter and not Harder.

Do as no one does, so you can do what no one can.

Leverage is the Master Key

Leverage is the master key to the kingdom. No one man can build a city.

What is leverage?
Leverage - using one point which accounts for many.

In other words, do one action which creates multiple results.

You have to monetize EVERYTHING you do. This perspective will help you understand
where value lives.

For example, If I create a music video, I’m creating 12 assets which I can bring to
market.

Here’s a list:
1. Music Video
2. Song (Streaming)
3. Tutorials on How to Make the Music Video
4. Tutorials on How to Make the Song
5. Micro content for socials (Engaging clips)
6. Sell the beat
7. Product Placement (Sponsorship Deals)
8. Merchandising advertisement (Plugging your own merch in the video)
9. Business Relationship with featured artist
10. Live Show (Public Speaking - One of the highest paid professions in the world)
11. Intermarketing campaigns with influencers in the video
12. Song Multitracks

Leverage is how you win the game, only a fool tries to take on a machine as a cog.
That’s like a nomad taking on a solidified and fortified village. It’s analogous to playing
an entire NBA team 1 on 5. Sounds foolish, but you do the same in your “business.”

Does this mean you can’t start unless you have a team? No! It means you need to build
a foundation to attract a team for the future. No great players do great things alone.

Now that you know the importance of leverage, the question is how do you attract
others to help you build?

YOU have to be a valuable cog into THEIR machine, the same way you need THEM to
be a cog in your machine.

This book was built on leverage. Jack asked other experts in their given fields to
contribute to HIS work. If he gets 10 powerful friends to contribute to HIS work, he
essentially gets HIS work done for FREE. That’s leverage!

But how?

Why would anyone do anything for free?

Just because people aren’t paid in money does it mean it’s free work. If money didn’t
exist, we would be trading things. You could trade your sheep for a new shed.

Money is only a symbol of a future trade, redeemable only because we believe it will
hold its value, so we can then later trade it for what we want. Money is only a medium of
exchange, it’s not the Only exchange.

Jack gets me to contribute this knowledge, built from true experience in the field from
helping over 700,000 producers and artists around the world and over 100 Million
YouTube views of hardcore in-the-field experience because he’s built up good will with
me.

He helped me create graphics for our POWER PACK which was a completely and
royalty free sound pack for producers, in response to the covid outbreak.
Him helping me with the graphics created a universal reciprocal relationship between
him and I, and I naturally felt like I had to pay him back in some way. Maybe not by
money, but something he values directly.

So What’s the Catch?

I see a benefit because I get to talk with you and build a relationship to show you how
valuable hanging out with me can be. He gets a benefit because he gets a high level
marketing strategy from someone who is just like you, who made a way in the Online
music producer space - me :)

I know exactly what it feels like to start from ground zero (even less than zero). Where it
feels like the ceiling to your room is the ceiling to your life. I know the pressure of
student loans creeping up on you with no job offers in sight - I lived it!

But instead of moping around my parents extra bedroom with just a laptop and a dream,
I wrote my dream down and put it to work! And when I decided to go all in, everything
changed!

Here’s one major takeaway you have to understand. YOU HAVE TO BE THE
INITIATOR OF YOUR SUCCESS.

Every seed does not grow into a tree, but every tree came from a seed. In other words,
you have to keep doing good things (OF VALUE) for others until it returns to you. Not
everything you do will result in something magnificent.

The Mighty Shepherd

Remember all those bible stories about farming? Well, they’re actually the most
accurate explanations of success.

YOU ARE NOT A MARKETER, YOU ARE NOT A PRODUCER, YOU ARE A
SHEPHERD.

Shepherds herd sheep and then take care of them, while receiving a benefit for doing
so.

Imagine a big empty field

Now imagine sheep at a distance. How would you bring the sheep towards your field
without forcing them? FOOD

You begin to throw out food into your field and the sheep slowly arrive 1 at a time. First,
1 then 3, then 9, then 27, then 81, then 243. Your field is now full of sheep, all because
you threw out FREE FOOD.

Now, once you have the sheep in YOUR field, you must continue to give them food,
less they’ll leave for another attraction. You keep feeding them food while
simultaneously building a fully enclosed fence with a gate.

The Key to Transaction

The gate to your fence has shears on the edges of the entrance which force any sheep
that wish to enter to shear a part of its coat as a cost of admission.

This is the sacrifice the sheep must make to go from the field where there’s free food to
the fenced area.

The question now becomes, how do you take them from the field of free food to the
enclosed area?

Well, you could build one big fence around all the sheep and enclose them by force and
get no direct benefit, OR you could create something even more alluring on the other
side of the fence so that the sheep WILLINGLY go through the gate (giving their
sacrifice of their cost edges).

If you simply built a fence around all the sheep, you would scare some away and have
to forcibly shear every single sheep by hand, chasing them down.

But when you make the other side of the fence look cooler than the free food, they
WANT to see what’s there by nature. No force required.

When you create this system, you get the edges of their coat you want to make clothes
and materials, they get the food and stuff they want and the sheep that just want to
enjoy the free food still do. It’s a win-win-win scenario where everyone benefits from the
exchange.
THE KEY TO ALLURING THE SHEEP THROUGH YOUR GATE IS FINDING WHAT
THEY ALREADY WANT.

The Hidden Value

Affinity is a word that sounds like it came from Star Trek but once you understand this
concept, it will change your marketing efforts forever.

Let’s simplify it. PEOPLE ALREADY WANT STUFF. It’s not necessarily your obligation
to make them want your thing.

The trick is to position your thing as a way to get to where they already want to go.

Examples:

● Movie producers who create Hollywood films attract an actress fresh into the Los
Angeles scene. She wants to be a big star. The movie producer has enough
power to get her into position. He gets a relationship, she gets closer to her goal.
It’s that simple.
● People want time freedom and financial freedom and a businessman holds a
seminar on how to invest in stocks. That person attends the seminar not because
they care so much about stocks, but because they want time and financial
freedom and stocks are only a means to an end.

Instead of leading with your thing you have to offer, give people what they already want
and then offer your thing over time and show how it can get them closer to what they
want.

If problems are the obstacles between you and your goals, then solutions are our way of
getting closer to our goals.

You need to sell solutions to solve people problems so that they can get closer to their
internal goal.

How Do You Begin to Solve Problems?

The hard part is finding out what people really want. It’s like a girl at an ice cream shop,
she really wants the glazed triple chocolate brownie deluxe flavor but since she’s trying
to impress her date, she orders simple vanilla.
Just because people say they want one thing, does it mean they actually want it. And
this doesn’t mean they’re being malicious in their intent, it’s that they don’t know their
subconscious desires. That’s for you to discover.

You have to tap into the mind of your customer. You have to relive their traumas, face
their fears, and feel their pain to truly communicate with them.

I’ve felt hopelessness. I’ve felt the bottom. I’ve felt complete isolation. I’ve felt complete
rejection. I know how deep these things cut and I can relate to lots of people BECAUSE
I’ve gone through so much.

I now give you the permission to go out and succeed. Go serve your people with your
best and go be the best you, you can be for your FAMILY, your PEOPLE, and your
GOD.

Don’t waste another moment in doubt as doubt kills all things silently. Doubt is your
worst enemy. You are the sower and multiplier of doubt. Therefore, YOU are your worst
enemy.
