AFFIDAVIT OF CHRISTINE WAYMAN
I, Christine Wayman, of Riverton, Utah, MAKE OATH AND SAY AS FOLLOWS:
1. I have personal knowledge of the facts and matters hereinafter deposed to save , and except
where the same are stated to be made upon information and belief and where so stated I believe
them to be true,
2. Lam a resident of the State of Utah, United States of America. I am 22 years old.
3. Lam a part of a large polygamous family. I am the fifteenth of my father’s children (the seventh
girl) and the fourth of my mother’s children. I live on a small farm and have lived here my entire
life.
4. My family practices polygamy as a matter of sincerely held religious belief owing to our belief in
celestial plural marriage as revealed to the Prophet Joseph Smith, the founder of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints.
5. Growing up in a polygamous culture has always been a joyful experience for me. I was able to
grow up with at least one parent home at all times, so I never had to have a babysitter.
949280.16.1 have many friends, but, my best friends are my brothers and sisters. I have always had
someone to play with and keep me company,
7. Although I have a great family and awesome friends, growing up in a culture like this is
difficult because people outside of our lifestyle are against it, and unfortunately, very ignorant
and uninformed.
8. Ever since I was little I have always liked to wear long skirts and long sleeved shirts but some
of my neighbors would judge me as a bad person because I would not be dressed as to what they
thought I should be. That never stopped me from believing and loving my religion. I love it
because it is what makes me feel good. It makes me feel good because of the high moral values
that my religion upholds. Accordingly, I believe in an elevated level of spiritual and physical
well being.
9. Now, like any other family, we are not perfect. I have my fair share of arguments with my
sisters, brothers and friends. 1 wanted my own way sometimes and I have done naughty things
that all children do.
10. Growing up in a religion that people think of as evil, makes me feel sad. Sometimes it
seemed that no one wanted to accept me for who I was. As I got older though, I started to realize
that I couldn't please everyone because everyone has their own different opinions.
11, As I got into my teenage years I dealt with people that were not in my religion. I have always
tried to treat them well and let them know that they are always welcome.
12. Now that I am older and thinking of getting married, I look forward to being able to
participate in celestial marriage, I realize what a grand privilege it would be to me, to be able to
have sister wives, and be able to help them raise their children alongside mine, also to be able to
have all the children think of all of us as their mom,
13. Thave always thought of all my mothers as my mother, whether they gave birth to me or not.
As a matter of fact, my birth mom went to work most the time so I was raised by the other
mothers in the family. I considered them all my moms.
14, Another thing is, I never thought of any of my brothers and sisters as lesser people or
anything, just because they were not from my mom. They were all my siblings, no matter who
gave birth to them; and because this is how we all thought as children, it was not hard for us to
get along with each other.
15. Growing up in this polygamous culture has made me the person I am today. I don't think I
would ever want anything different; but, I know if I were to choose to go a different way, I could
go anytime I wanted to. I also realize that this religion is not for everyone, but it does not mean
that itis not for me or for others who would like to embrace it.
16. For a while now, I have had the privilege to babysit other people's children who do not
believe the same way I do, and they are some of the nicest people that I know. So, I know that if
everyone would let everyone believe how they want to, it would be a happier world,

17. [would not trade anything in the world for my religion. It is what I have always loved and
hopefully will live it for the rest of my life.
18. Growing up in a polygamous family did not make me a deprived person, like some people
have thought it does. I have parties, play volleyball, soccer and basketball, go to ball games,
watch television and have a computer. I received an education and am like any other American
citizen,
19.1 do not disparage anyone who does not believe the way I do and I do not treat them as
second-class citizens; so I expect respect in retum, as I respect others. I have always loved being
in a big family and being raised the way I was raised. 1 would not ever want to be the only child.
In my opinion, it has been a great lifestyle.
