EN10225-2: 2019 HIGH YIELD STRUCTURAL SECTIONS FOR OFFSHORE

Scope
The aim of this document is to highlight the important changes for offshore sections according to
EN10225-2:2019 edition.

Background
Date of release: 23/05/2019
Mandatory from 01/12/2019

The former EN10225: 2009 edition is now split into 4 parts

EN10225-1: 2019 - Plates

EN10225-2: 2019 - Sections
EN10225-3: 2019 - Hot finished hollow sections
EN10225-4: 2019 - Cold formed hollow sections

Comparison of steel designation

The biggest change is the steel name designation system.
Below is the comparison of steel designation system between the old and the new edition.

To make it short, S355G11+M will become S355MLO. S355G12+M will be S355ML1O.

Delivery condition
According to EN10225:2009, sections can be delivered in As-rolled condition.

But according to the EN10225-2:2019 edition, sections shall be delivered in Normalized or

Thermomechanical rolled condition only depends on the material grade.

Comparison of mechanical properties

In the EN10225:2009 edition, for up to and including 25 mm thickness, the Charpy impact test could be
carried out @ –20 °C in lieu of –40 °C.

EN10225-2:2019 does not allow this anymore. All sections with L specified in the steel designation shall
undergo a Charpy impact test @ –40 °C.

There are several other minor changes in mechanical properties requirements. Below table illustrates
the comparison between the old and new editions.
