SECTION 23 00 10 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR HVAC SYSTEM

1.1 SCOPE OF WORKS


This section 230010 forms an integral part of each section of Division 230000, HVAC
system.

The work covered by this section consists of providing all material and equipment and
performing all the work necessary for the complete execution and completion, including
testing and commissioning of all systems of HVAC works as specified in Division 230000
and as shown on the Drawings or as directed by the Engineer.

All the above mentioned systems complete in all respects including connection of the internal
systems with the external systems are included in the scope of work.

All the materials and equipment shall be of the specifications mentioned herein and shall be
limited to products regularly produced and recommended by the manufacturers for the service
intended. Contractor shall submit samples, necessary catalogue, sketches, the name of
manufacturer and guarantee, if necessary, before installation for approval by the Engineer. All
material and equipment shall be new and unused.

All other equipment and material shall be installed in strict accordance with manufacturer’s
instructions. These instructions shall be considered as part of specifications.

It is specifically intended and shall be agreed to by the Contractor that any material or labor
which is usually furnished as a part of such equipment and which is necessary for its proper
completion and best operation shall be furnished as a part of this contract without any
additional cost whether or not shown in detail on the drawings or described in detail in the
specifications.

The Contractor shall be responsible for his work until its completion and final acceptance and
shall replace any of the same which may be damaged, lost or stolen without any additional
cost to the Employer.

All openings left in floor for passage of ducts, pipes and cables etc. shall be covered and
protected.

All open ends of pipes shall be properly plugged off to prevent any foreign material from
entering the pipe during installation.

The Contractor shall allow in his bid for the cost of all cutting, making of holes and
subsequently making good to the desired finish as approved by the Engineer. No separate
payment shall be made for this item. Also the Contractor shall allow in his bid for the cost of
providing protective painting or coating as specified in the relevant sections and no claim
shall be entertained for this item.

The arrangement, positions and connections of pipe fittings and appurtenances shall be as
shown on the drawings but the Engineer reserves the rights to change the locations. Special
precautions shall be taken for the installation of concealed pipes as shown on the drawings
and/or as required. Should it be necessary to correct piping so installed, the Contractor shall
be held liable for any injury caused to other work in the correction of piping. For any
expedient change, the Contractor will correctly show it in shop drawings. A minimum
distance between different services shall be maintained as shown in the contract documents or
as approved by the Engineer.

All exterior openings provided for the passage of piping and ducting shall be properly sealed
with snugly fittings collars of metal of other approved rat-proof material securely fastened in
to place.

Joints at the roof, around ducts and pipes, shall be made water-tight by the use of lead, copper,
galvanized iron or other approved flashings of flashing material. Exterior wall openings shall
be made water-tight.

Piping in ground shall be laid on a firm bed for its entire length. No separate payment shall be
made for any earth work required in connection with laying of piping in ground. Piping shall
be installed without undue strains and stresses. Vertical piping shall be securely held to keep
the pipe in alignment and carry the weight of the pipe and contents. Horizontal piping shall be
supported to keep it in alignment and prevent sagging. Hangers and anchors shall be of metal
of sufficient strength to maintain their proportional share of pipe alignments and prevent
ratting. Hangers and anchors shall be securely attached to the building construction.

The Work shall conform in all respects to local Municipality, and any other authorities having
jurisdiction.

The systems shall be in accordance with the requirements of the Civil Defense Department
and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

These specifications are supplementary to the requirements above. All required approvals of
shop drawings and materials shall be obtained by the Contractor from the appropriate
authorities before proceeding with work on site.

All connections to/from city points of utilities supply/discharge shall be the mechanical
contractor’s responsibility.

1.2 DEFINITIONS
Reviewed: Reviewed by the Engineer; normally a design or piece of equipment must be
shown to have operated successfully for not less than two years under conditions generally
similar to those required by this Contract. Facilities shall be given at the tender stage, if
required by the Engineer, to enable him to evaluate the equipment's features and performance.
The review of a design or piece of equipment shall be without prejudice to the acceptance
tests required after installation.

Size: When related to pipe work means nominal size which generally approximates to the
bore of steel tubes and the outside diameter of copper tubes.

"Complete installation" shall mean not only the major items of plant and equipment conveyed
by this specification, but all the incidental sundry components necessary for the complete
execution of the works and for the proper operation of the installation, with their labour
charges, whether or not these sundry components are mentioned in detail in the tender
documents issued in connection with the contract.

"As indicated", "where indicated", and "unless otherwise indicated", refer to items or
requirements which are, or may be given elsewhere in the tender documents issued in
connection with the contract, (e.g. on a drawing, in a supplementary specification or in a
schedule to this specification).

Provide: Supply, install and test.

Remove: Remove complete with all ancillary devices and equipment. Dispose of off- site in

an environmentally safe manner. Ensure that equipment is completely isolated from any
energy sources prior to testing.

Removal: All piping and wiring shall be removed back to the nearest isolating point.

1.3 REGULATIONS
The Work shall accord strictly with all rules, regulations, By-laws and requirements of all
authorities having jurisdiction.

Drawings and specifications should not conflict with the above regulations but where there
are apparent discrepancies the Contractor shall notify the Engineer in writing and obtain
clarification before proceeding with the Work.

1.4 CODES AND STANDARDS


The installation shall comply with all relevant statutory instruments and regulations and in
particular with the following:
1. The IEE regulations for electrical equipment in buildings.
2. Any Regulations under Electricity.
3. Local Health and safety at work regulations.
4. Local Control of Pollution Regulations.
5. ASHRAE standards.
6. ASME standards.
7. British Standard.
8. National Plumbing Code
9. Standards mentioned elsewhere in these documents

The Tender shall be based on regulations and standards current on the date of return of
tenders. If these regulations are amended or new regulations are enacted after that date, the
Engineer shall be notified immediately.

The materials, equipment and installations detailed in this specification are based on the
standards and codes of practice indicated in the Contract Documents. In the event of a
contradiction between this specification and any applicable standard or Code of Practice, this
specification shall govern and the Engineer shall be notified immediately.

Where material and equipment are specified under a particular standard and supplied under an
equivalent standard, a certificate of compliance shall be provided to the Engineer at his
request.

1.6 DRAWINGS, CHANGES AND INSTALLATION


The drawings shall be considered to show the general character and scope of the work and not
the exact details of the installation. The installation shall be complete with all accessories
required for a complete and operative installation.

The location, arrangement and connection of equipment and material as shown on the
drawings represent a close approximation to the intent and requirements of the Contract. The
right is reserved by the Engineer to make reasonable changes required to accommodate
conditions arising during the progress of the work, at no extra cost to the Contract.

All piping and duct work in finished areas shall be concealed in ceiling spaces and shafts or
chased into walls. No exposed piping or duct work shall be installed in such areas unless
specifically accepted by the Engineer.

Any pipe or mechanical equipment mounted on roof, or housing for such equipment, shall not
be closer to the edge of roof than a distance equal to the height of the pipe, hood or
equipment; unless specifically accepted by the Engineer.

The actual location of sensing devices, thermostats, switches, etc., shall be reviewed by the
Engineer before installation.

The location and size of existing services shown on the drawings are based on the best
available information. The actual location of existing services shall be verified in the field
before work is commenced.

Changes and modifications necessary to ensure coordination and to avoid interference and
conflicts with other trades, or to accommodate existing conditions, shall be made at no extra
cost to the Contract.

The Contractor shall ensure that all plant to be supplied by him can be installed in the
available space and that there is adequate access to admit all plant to its position and enable
maintenance to be carried out on the plant without difficulty.

Special care shall be taken in areas where pour-gaps take place. Coordinate the work schedule
with the Contractor.

1.7 RECORD DRAWINGS


The Contractor shall clearly mark, as the job progresses, all changes and deviations from that
SHOWN On contract drawings on two sets of prints. After inspection and acceptance of
service lines in trenches, the Contractor shall take 'as-built' measurements. Definite
measurements shall be taken for each service line. Drawings shall be kept up-to-date during
construction. On completion of the building, the Contractor shall forward to the Engineer,
drawings (quantities as specified elsewhere) indicating all such changes and deviations. This
contractor shall include all existing information on the final record drawings.

The cost of furnishing above prints and preparing these record drawings shall be borne by the
Contractor and shall be included in the Contract Price. When all revisions showing the work
as finally installed are made, the corrected sepias shall be submitted for review by the
Engineer, and delivered to the Consultants before final payment for the completed work will
be made.

1.8 SHOP DRAWING

1.8.1 DESCRIPTION
Shop Drawings shall indicate clearly all services and the materials and/or equipment actually
being supplied, all details of construction, accurate dimensions, capacity operating
characteristics and performance.

Each shop drawings for non-catalogue items shall be prepared specifically for this project.
Material submissions and brochures for catalogue items shall be marked clearly to show the
Items being supplied.

This contractor shall prepare all shop drawings related to the particular material submittal and
shall submit both the shop drawings and the material submittal simultaneously.

Ensure that electrical coordination is complete before submitting drawings for review.

Installation of any equipment shall not be commenced until after the shop drawings have been
reviewed by the Engineer.

When requested, shop drawings shall be supplemented by data explaining the theory of
operation. The Engineer may also request that this information be added to the maintenance
and operating manual.

1.9 DRAWING SUBMISSIONS


Builder's work drawings shall show fully dimensioned, all foundation, bases plinths, sumps,
holes and sleeves details required and the overall size and weights of the plant concerned.

With the agreement of the Engineer, smaller holes, built-in fixings, etc., other than in plant
rooms, may be marked out on site instead of on drawings.

Fully dimension plant room drawings shall detail for each plant room the location of each
unit, pipe routes and connections with valves and fittings, duct routes and connection with
accessories, drain connections, electrical connections and controls. All drawings shall include
explanatory notes and shall show the required sizes of pipes and ducts with and without
insulation as applicable.

If abbreviations are employed for the designation of components, an integral schedule shall be
provided on the drawings to explain the meanings of the abbreviations.

Individual equipment drawings from the various manufacturers will not be accepted in lieu of
these composite plant room drawings.

1.10 COORDINATION, INSTALLATION, INTERFERENCE AND SETTING DRAWINGS


Coordination, Installation, interference and setting drawings dimensioned and to scale, shall
be submitted for the Engineer’s review to make clear the work intended and to, show its
relation to adjacent work and to the work of other trades. Three copies of such drawings shall
be submitted for review, of which one will be retained by the Engineer.

The drawings must be comprehensive showing all details, dimensions, equipment, supports
for services and sections through critical areas to properly coordinate all services and work of
other trades. Unless accepted by the Engineer, all drawings must be to 1/8” : 1’ scales for IP
Units or 1:100 scales for SI Units.

Site services drawing shall be prepared to show all existing services, modification to existing
services and all new services within the entire construction area. Location of all existing
services shall be carefully detailed and dimensioned on the drawings showing all sizes and
invert elevations.
Drawings shall be prepared with due regard to the construction schedule and shall be
submitted to the Engineer, allowing reasonable time for examination and review.

Work shall not proceed in areas involved until after final approval of all such drawings has
been obtained.

These drawings shall include all existing information.

1.11 EXAMINATION OF SITE


Before submitting tenders, each trade shall examine the site to determine the conditions which
may affect the proposed work. No claims for extra payment will be considered, because of
failure to fulfill this condition.

1.12 CONTRACTOR'S TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES


This Contractor shall provide detailed calculations for flow and head requirements for all
Pipes, pumps and etc. These calculations shall be done prior to ordering the equipment and
shall be submitted to the Engineers for review prior to ordering such equipment. This
Contractor shall bear full responsibility for the final equipment sizing and selection. The cost
of furnishing above calculations shall be borne by the Contractor and shall be included in the
Contract Price.

SECTION 23 01 13 OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE


1.1 ONE MONTH TEST RUN
The Contractor shall be required to carry out test run(s) as specified in the Memorandum of
Tender after the issue of the Certificate of Substantial Completion for the complete works by
the Engineer. The period for the test run(s) would be designated in writing by the Engineer.
The test run observations shall be recorded in duplicate by the Contractor on printed log
sheets approved by the Consultant. The Contractor shall depute an experienced Site Engineer
and sufficient skilled labor for taking and recording test run observations. The normal plant
operation shall be carried out by the Employer's Operators. The Employer shall only provide
without charge to the Contractor water, electricity and fuel for the test run(s) and the
Contractor shall be responsible for the supply of all tools and instruments etc. required to take
and record the test run observations. The log sheets shall be jointly signed by the Emplo-
yer's Representative and Contractor's Site Engineer. The Contractor shall hand over one set of
log sheets to the Employer's Representative every day. The Contractor's Project Engineer shall
check and prepare a summary of observations on printed forms approved by the Consultant in
quadruplicate at the end of each test run week. One set each shall be supplied to the Engineer,
Consultant and Employer's Representative within one week of the conclusion of the corres-
ponding test run week. The Engineer shall check the performance of the plant(s) during the
test run(s). If the plant(s) performance meets the specified requirements, the Engineer shall
issue a Certificate of satisfactory completion of test run(s) to the Contractor.
1.2 MAINTENANCE
The Contractor shall be responsible without additional charge to the Employer for
maintenance and servicing of the complete plant during the period of maintenance named in
the Memorandum after the issue of the Certificate of Substantial Completion by the Engineer.
The Contractor shall be responsible for arranging all tools, instruments and Technical Staff
including Specialist Technicians/Engineers required for the work. The Employer shall be
responsible to supply all materials and spare parts required for the work excluding parts
defective due to manufacturing defect which shall be replaced by the Contractor under the
terms of the contract. The Contractor shall service the complete plant regularly according to
the Schedule of Servicing and Maintenance as approved or amended by the Consultant but
not less than once a month during the operational seasons. The servicing and maintenance
shall be carried out by competent skilled labor under supervision of a qualified Engineer. The
Contractor shall take a certificate of satisfactory completion of monthly servicing from the
Employer's Representative. The Contractor shall carry out annual servicing, maintenance and
overhauling of the complete plant at the end of the operational season and make the plant
ready for operation in all respects well before the commencement of the next operational
season. On receiving notification from the Contractor that annual servicing, etc. is nearing
completion, the Consultant shall check the work carried out and give directions to the
Contractor for completion of outstanding work, if any. On satisfactory completion of annual
servicing, maintenance and overhauling of the complete plant, the Engineer shall issue a
Certificate of satisfactory completion to the Contractor.
1.3 SPECIAL TOOLS AND INSTRUMENTS FOR MAINTENANCE
The Contractor shall supply to the Employer all necessary special tools and instruments
required for proper operation, servicing and maintenance of the complete plant. The tenderer
shall give a complete List of special tools and instruments included in his tender. Amongst
others, following shall be included without limitation:
i. Tong Tester of suitable range with Amp, Volt and ohm scales.
ii. Phase Tester.
iii. Sling psychomotor with 140mm long 0-50°C range thermometers.
iv. Electric motor driven high pressure air blower for cleaning.
v. One set each of open end, ring and adjustable spanners.
vi. One set each of flat and Philips head screw drivers.
vii. Set of hammers.
viii. Two pliers with flat and pointed nose.
ix. One set of cleaning and washing tanks for air filters.

SECTION 23 05 13.13 MOTOR CONTROL CENTRE (MCC)

1.0 GENERAL

1.1 CODE & COMPLIANCE: All materials and workmanship described herein shall be in
accordance with the latest editions and addenda of the codes and standards listed below and
all State, and local codes, and/or specifications, the more stringent shall be govern.
ASHRAE, BS, IEC, NFPA

1.2 QUALITY ASSURANCE: All materials and equipment to be used for this contract shall be
standard products of a reputable manufacturer regularly engaged in the production of same.
Where more than one unit of an item is required, all shall be provided by the same
manufacturer using identical components. The manufacturer’s nameplate shall include model
number, serial number and performance data and shall be permanently affixed to all
equipment furnished under this contract. Any work or materials found to be defective or
which do not meet the requirements of these specifications, shall be replaced by the Vendor at
his own expense. All materials shall be new, unused and free of defects and imperfections.

1.3 COORDINATION: In selecting the units, the tenderer shall carefully check and confirm that
the units can be installed and conveniently serviced and maintained within the respective
spaces indicated on the drawings for unit installation.

1.4 SUBMITTALS: Submit manufacturer’s technical product data, installation instructions and
dimensioned drawings and single line diagram.

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE & HANDLING: MCC shall be delivered factory assembled with
protective crating and covering and their delivery coordinated in sufficient time to allow
movement into building. Preparation for shipment shall be in accordance with Vendor’s
standards. Vendor shall be solely responsible for the adequacy of the preparation for shipment
provisions with respect to materials and applications. Adequate protection shall be provided
against mechanical damage and atmospheric corrosion in transit and for a 6 month period of
outdoor storage at job site prior to installation. Control panel shall be protected from moisture
penetration. Miscellaneous parts shall be tagged or marked with the equipment item number
for which they are intended.

1.6 WARRANTY: Vendor shall guarantee and provide a written statement as proof that the unit
shall perform as specified on the Data Sheets. All equipment shall be guaranteed for
satisfactory performance and shall be warranted against faulty design, defective or improper
materials. The Material and Workmanship Guarantees shall be extended for a period of
eighteen months from the date of shipment or one year from the date the equipment is placed
in service whichever occurs first.

2.0 PRODUCT
The scope of work shall cover the supply, design, manufacture, testing in the factory, packing,
insurance, delivery to site, unloading, installation, testing and commissioning of all
components with all the necessary accessories in accordance with this technical specification.
Climatic conditions are as follows:
Maximum ambient temperature: 45°C
Maximum relative humidity: 100%

Electric motors shall be of the sizes and types as specified for driving all plant and equipment.
The motors shall be of atleast the horsepower specified but shall be of proper horse-power
and speed to suit the specific plant and equipment offered by the tenderer. Any adjustment in

motor horsepower or speed must be included in the tender and no additional cost will be
allowed on this account. The motors and starters shall be heavy duty quiet running type
suitable for continuous operation under the site conditions. The minimum motor efficiency
and power factor shall be 0.85. The motors shall be designed for 50 cycle AC supply of
following voltage characteristics:
Imported Indigenous
Fractional HP, 1-phase 220+10% 220+10%
1 HP & above, 3-phase 400+10% 400+5%-10%

All motors shall be constant speed type unless otherwise specified. 3-phase motors, 150 HP
and below shall be squirrel cage type and above 150 HP slip ring type. Squirrel cage motors
10HP and above shall have 6 winding leads brought to motor terminal block for star-delta
starting. Single phase motors shall be split phase type or capacitor start induction run type.
The motors and starters shall be tropicalized and fungus proof. Unless otherwise specified,
drip proof ventilated or totally enclosed fan cooled construction with Class IP44 Protection
for indoor installation, totally enclosed fan cooled weather proof construction with Class IP54
Protection for outdoor installation or where coming in contact with high humidity air. The
motors and starters shall be suitable for operation under site conditions as specified; minimum
ambient temperature 450C and altitude 600m amsl. Where required, motors installed outside
shall be provided with sheet metal cover to protect from direct sun.

The motors to have cast iron frame with cast in cooling ribs, integral feet and cast in end
shields, protective cover for cooling fan, quiet running ball or roller bearings to meet the
specified duty, terminal box and grease nipples in upper part of end shields to be accessible
while motor is running. Motors to be suitable for direct or pulley drive. All motors should be
arranged for quiet operation and guaranteed to give the required output and fulfill the require-
ments of the driven machinery without producing any sound audible outside the machine
room. Motors driving pumps shall be directly connected through flexible couplings, while
motors driving fans, compressors, etc shall be belt connected unless otherwise specified. All
belt connected motors should have sturdy adjustable bases with arrangement to maintain
proper belt alignment and tension and complete with belt guards. All belt connected fan
driving motors shall have variable pitch pulley for adjusting the fan speed +5-10% of design
selected speed. The slip ring motors shall have inspection windows for access to brushes and
slip rings. Rotor connections shall be made thru a cable gland or terminal box. There shall be
a safety control to ensure that the motor cannot be started without the brushes in position.

Single phase motors 0.5 HP and above shall have automatic magnetic direct-on-line starters
with hand/off/auto switch, two adjustable overload cutouts, low voltage cutout, and atleast
one auxiliary contact for electric interlocking circuit. Motors below 0.5 HP rating may be
provided with a heavy duty MCB. Squirrel cage motors 10 HP and below shall have auto-
matic magnetic direct-on-line starters with hand/off/auto switch, three adjustable overload
cutouts, low voltage cutout, single phasing preventer, atleast two auxiliary contacts for
electric interlocking circuits and one ammeter for motors 5 HP and above. Squirrel cage
motors above 10 HP shall have automatic magnetic star-delta type reduced voltage starters
with hand/off/ auto switch, three adjustable overload cutouts,low voltage cutout, single
phasing preventer, atleast two auxiliary contacts for electric interlocking circuits and one
ammeter. All three contactors of the starter shall be identical. Slip ring motors shall have
automatic magnetic stator-rotor type starters with hand/off/auto switch, three adjustable
overload cutouts, low voltage cutout, single phasing preventer, atleast two auxiliary contacts
for electric interlocking circuits and one ammeter. The rotor Rheostat, natural air ventilation
cooled, should be suitable for atleast 8 starts per hour. Electric interlocking control shall
ensure that the motor cannot be energized without the Rheostat in starting position. At power
supply contactor tripping, the Rheostat shall automatically return to the starting position. The

Rheostat operating system shall be step by step ensuring smooth starting to full speed and
short circuiting of rotor when full speed achieved.

All starters control circuit and magnetic coils to be suitable for 230 volts 50 cycles 1-phase
AC. For motors requiring electric interlocking or remote control or sequence starting control
or any other such feature, starters should have necessary auxiliary contacts (normally open
and normally closed) providing the desired control arrangement. A separate set of terminals is
required for each control circuit. Single phase starters shall have off-on green-red indicator
lights and 3-phase starters off-on-overload green-red-yellow indicator lights. All starters for
equipment not visible from the starters and for remote control operation shall be provided
with a pilot light. An off-on switch in the starter control circuit shall be installed near the
motor from which the starter is not visible to ensure that the motor cannot be started or
electric circuit energized by error. Alternatively a disconnect switch can be provided near the
motor. All motors and starters provided under this contract should be of one manufacturer
except for the equipment where special motors and starters are provided as standard
component. The Contractor shall submit manufacturers' technical bulletins of motors and
starters to the Consultant for approval before supply. Where single phasing preventer or any
other safety devices or controls specified above are not part of standard control panel and/or
starters supplied by the equipment manufacturer as standard component, the Contractor shall
provide all such safety devices and controls. All motor starters in one Plant Room shall be
installed in one Motor Control Center of type and construction as specified elsewhere, except
where these are installed in the equipment control panel by the manufacturer. Special fire
resistant, explosion proof, 2-speed or multi speed motors and starters shall be supplied if
specified elsewhere in the documents. The Motor Control Center (MCC) shall be factory
fabricated of weather proof construction. The MCC shall have main incoming MCCB and a
MCCB for each outgoing. 3 phase indicating lights and voltmeter with selector switch for
incoming supply and on-off green-red indication lights for each outgoing. MCCB shall be
heavy continuous duty type with 10KVA rupture rating and shall have magnetic short circuit
trip, thermal overload trip single phasing preventer and under voltage release.

Four sets of plastic coated complete detail wiring diagram for the MCC shall be supplied. One
set kept in a pocket in MCC and 3 sets handed over to the Employer. Sub-switch boards shall
be manufactured BS5486 Part 1 with Degree of Protection to IP 42, BS 5420 and IEC529.
Refer to single line diagram for rating and type of feeders required. Equipment shall be indoor
type 380 volt, 3 phase and neutral (TP/N), 4 wire, 50 Hz earth wire system with neutral
solidly earthed and a withstand rating of 25 kA RMS symmetrical for one second or as
specified. Sub-switchboards shall be wall mounted unless noted otherwise on the drawings,
metal enclosed, tamperproof, dead front type and separation to IEC439.1 form 2, Type 2.
Sections shall be 2mm zinc coated corrosion resistant treat after all forming and welding have
been completed and all holes have been punched. The finish coat shall be epoxy powder paint
deposited by an electrically charged procedure both inside and outside light blue/grey color
RAL 7032. Main incoming section shall contain a system service circuit breaker with thermal
magnetic protection. Bus bars shall be copper. Provide a copper earth bus extending the full
width of the cubicle, and located at the bottom, with lugs at each end for earth cable
connections. Switchboards shall be factory assembled at the manufacturer's factory. Ensure
sufficient glanding and termination facilities are available for the main incoming cables.
Removable gland plates shall be provided at the top and bottom of all panel boards enclosures
for cable gland termination. Name plates for the sub main switchboards and for each outgoing
to be fixed and shall be engraved lamicoid, with white letters on a black background.

Sub-switchboards shall be wall mounted securely fixed to the structure by built-in fixings or
Rawl bolts. Connect main feeders and branch feeders as shown on drawings and schedules.

1.2 QUALITY ASSURANCE: All materials and equipment to be used for this contract shall be
standard products of a reputable manufacturer regularly engaged in the production of same.
Where more than one unit of an item is required, all shall be provided by the same
manufacturer using identical components. The manufacturer’s nameplate shall include model
number, serial number and performance data and shall be permanently affixed to all
equipment furnished under this contract. Any work or materials found to be defective or
which do not meet the requirements of these specifications, shall be replaced by the Vendor at
his own expense. All materials shall be new, unused and free of defects and imperfections.

1.3 COORDINATION: In selecting the units, the tenderer shall carefully check and confirm that
the units can be installed and conveniently serviced and maintained within the respective
spaces indicated on the drawings for unit installation.

1.4 SUBMITTALS: Submit manufacturer’s technical product data, installation instructions and
dimensioned drawings and single line diagram.

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE & HANDLING: Adequate protection shall be provided against
mechanical damage and atmospheric corrosion in transit and for a 6 month period of outdoor
storage at job site prior to installation. Control panel shall be protected from moisture
penetration. Miscellaneous parts shall be tagged or marked with the equipment item number
for which they are intended.

1.6 WARRANTY: Vendor shall guarantee and provide a written statement as proof that the unit
shall perform as specified on the Data Sheets. All equipment shall be guaranteed for
satisfactory performance and shall be warranted against faulty design, defective or improper
materials. The Material and Workmanship Guarantees shall be extended for a period of
eighteen months from the date of shipment or one year from the date the equipment is placed
in service whichever occurs first.

2.0 PRODUCT
The scope of work shall cover the supply, design, manufacture, testing in the factory, packing,
insurance, delivery to site, unloading, installation, testing and commissioning of all
components with all the necessary accessories in accordance with this technical specification.
Climatic conditions are as follows:
Maximum ambient temperature: 45°C
Maximum relative humidity: 100%

The Contractor will be responsible for complete electric wiring and earthing of the equipment
and controls. The Employer shall only provide 3 phase and natural 4 wire supply with two
earthing wire up to the Motor Control Center as shown on drawing.

3.0 EXECUTION
Wiring of multi-point circuits shall utilize a 'looping-in' system. Joints and connections other
than those required for the connection of switches, fuses, socket outlets, motors and the like
shall not be allowed. PVC cables shall not be in direct contact with any form of polystyrene
used in the building. PVC cables shall not be installed when manufacturers recommended
installation temperature. If cable has been exposed to a temperature below recommended
value a warming up cable is installed. PVC cables shall not enter any Luminaire or heat-
producing equipment. For tungsten luminaires, heat-resisting cables shall be installed from
the luminaires to the lighting switches or equivalent. For fluorescent luminaries high
temperature PVC cables shall be installed from the lighting switch or equivalent. For recessed
tungsten and fluorescent luminaries and heat-producing/emitting equipment, final connections
shall be made using heat-resistant flexible cables. Where cables are permitted to traverse
channel-ways or similar on continuously mounted fluorescent luminaries, heat-resistant
cables shall be used throughout.

Soldered connections or lugs shall not be permitted. Conductors requiring bolted connection
shall be terminated with compression lugs using an automatic compression crimp tool which
will only release after the correct crimp depth has been obtained. All crimped connections
shall be contained within an appropriately sized conduit box. Bolted connections shall have
spring washers. Pinch screw terminals may not be used for conductors greater than 6.0mm.

Single strand cables shall be doubled back on themselves when terminations are made. PVC
cables shall not be used for final connections to any appliances containing a heating element
or any appliance emitting heat. Where flexible conduit is used as a final connection wiring
medium, heat-resistant cables shall be used and these shall commence at the solid conduit end
of the flexible conduit provided it is not in a heated area. If this is not possible, heat-resistant
cables shall be run back to the first switch outside the hot area. PVC cables shall not exceed
the carrying capacity of the conduit or trunking. The installations shall comply strictly with
the IEE Wiring Regulations regarding capacity of conduits and trunking for 450/750V cables,
and a space fill factor of 35% shall not be exceeded for trunking. Circuit protective
conductors shall be used throughout the installation and shall be the same grade and
temperature rating of the live conductors of the circuit.

Metal conduit and/or the trunking system enclosure shall not be used exclusively as a circuit
protective medium. Separate circuit protective conductors shall be installed and shall be
colored green and yellow. No cable installation work shall be carried out in temperatures at
which the cable being installed is likely to suffer damage. Each drum length of cable shall be
allotted a distinctive and separate reference number. This number shall appear on the test
sheet covering the respective length of cable and shall also be clearly marked on the cable
drum. The Contractor shall advise the Engineer upon delivery to site of each drum length,
quoting this reference number, which shall also appear on the invoices. All cables shall be
delivered to site with the manufacturer's seals, labels or other proof or origin intact. These
labels and seals shall not be removed until the cable is required for use and shall be retained

for inspection by the Engineer.

The arrangement of cables and all methods of installation shall be approved by the Engineer.
Cables shall be installed from terminal point to terminal point and straight through joints shall
not be made unless approved. Where a run of MICC cable is of a length which exceeds the
maximum to which the cable can be manufactured, a through joint of approved pattern will be
permitted. The radius of each bend or change in direction of the route of any cable shall not
be less than that laid down in the relevant table of current issues of IEE Regulations and the
relevant British Standard Specifications, and shall generally not be less than eight times the
overall diameter of the cable. The spacing of cable supports shall be those laid down for the
relevant size and type of cable in the current issue of the IEE Regulations and the
manufactures recommendations, but the horizontal longitudinal distance between wire
armored support centers of unarmored cable support centers shall not exceed 1 meter, the
horizontal distance between support centers of unarmored cables shall not exceed 800 mm
and the distance between support centers for either type of cable on vertical runs is not to
exceed 1 meter. Cables of and less than 50 mm eternal diameter shall be supported at not
more than 800 mm centers.

The cables may be installed in a number of different ways:


(a) Laid direct in the ground
(b) Laid in ducts
(c) Installed in covered concrete trenches
(d) Installed on cable ladders
(e) Installed on perforated steel trays
(f) Fixed to concrete and brickwork
(g) Fixed to steelwork

Single core cables forming a three phase group shall be fixed in trefoil cleats of a British
Insulated Calendars Cables Limited alloy pattern or similar. Flat formation may be used
where specified or approved. Unarmored PVC cables and wires shall be enclosed in trunking
or conduit unless otherwise stated. Home runs exceeding 25m in length to distribution boards
shall be minimum 4mm2 unless otherwise stated. The cross-sectional area of circuit protective
conductors shall be in strict accordance with the requirement of the IEE Wiring Regulations.
Conductors shall be pulled into conduit in a careful and workmanlike manner without
overstressing or exceeding the pulling limitations of the conductors. Conductors shall be
‘combed’ as pulling proceeds. The neutral and circuit protective conductor or each circuit
shall be pulled with the phase conductors. Conductors of a circuit run in trunking shall be
‘grouped’ together with approved plastic binding clips. Tape shall not be used. Clip cables
neatly to tray with cable separation and support spacing as recommended by the
manufacturer.

Where more than two power cables are run together, provide a cable tray. Secure cables with
cleats, saddles or ties as appropriate to location and use spacers where more than one layer is
required. Install cables in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, using
manufacturer’s approved terminating devices. Terminate single conductor cables entering
steel cabinets through a non-ferrous plate. Where cables pass through a floor or fire barrier
provide cable transit or equivalent fire stop with openings properly sized for the cables. Run
surface cables similar to exposed conduit installations. Run cables concealed above ceilings in
finished areas. Where exposed, run parallel to building lines and avoid proximity to water.

The Contractor shall supply and install expansion joints/loops where the pipes are crossing
the building expansion joints and where required at other locations to prevent undue stresses
in the piping as specified or shown on the drawings, according to following schedule. The
expansion joints shall have required traverse, temperature and pressure ratings as specified for
different systems.

2.2 COMPONENTS
GI, MS Copper and PVC piping 50mm and below dia. An expansion loop as approved by the
Consultant where the space permits.
MS, Copper and PVC piping above 50mm dia. One of following types of expansion joints as
specified or shown on the drawings. For piping 100mm dia. and above, the joints shall be pro-
tected with the rods as recommended by the manufacturer.

Provide for the expansion and contraction of all pipes. Install expansion joints to have
sufficient flexibility to prevent end thrust and movements caused by thermal expansion or
contraction causing detrimental distortion or damage of connected equipment. Provide offsets
between mains and equipment of sufficient length to safely absorb the expansion of the main.
Provide guides as necessary.
Provide guides at distances of 4 pipe diameters, 14 pipe diameters and at 3-meter intervals
after that, from the expansion joint.
Provide expansion joints for all pipes crossing building expansion joints.

Coordinate the location with all other services.

Atleast one set of guides shall be installed on either side of the expansion joint, piping shall
be properly anchored on one side. The pipes shall also be supported on both sides close to the
building expansion joints.

items of equipment being provided, indicating the dimensions, materials and characteristics.
Materials selection data to be submitted. Shop drawings to include typical details for both
vertical and horizontal equipment support including locations. Contractor to submit details
and calculations of how proposed loads can be safely accommodated by the structure. Shop
drawings including fixing details of equipment, duct work, piping etc. to building structures,
whether or not shown in Tender drawings.

All auxiliary steel and material required for supports, anchors, guides, etc. shall be provided
by the Mechanical Trades unless specifically indicated to be provided by others. Contractor
shall review all Drawings, including Structural Drawings, for details regarding duct supports,
anchors, hangers. All Supports shall be of type and arrangement to prevent excessive
deflection, to avoid excessive bending stresses between supports, and to eliminate
transmission of vibration. All rod sizes indicated in this Specification are minimum
sizes only. This trade shall be responsible for structural integrity of all supports, anchors,

guides, etc. All structural hanging materials shall have a minimum safety factor of 5 built in.
Supports, hangers, anchors, and guides shall be fastened to the structure only at such points
where the structure is capable of restraining the forces in the equipment. The load and
spacing on each hanger and/or insert shall not exceed the safe allowable load for any
component of the support system, including the concrete which holds the inserts.
Reinforcement at inserts shall be provided as required to develop the strength required.
Inserts shall be of a type which will not interfere with reinforcing as shown on the
structural Drawings and which will not displace excessive amounts of structural concrete. All
ductwork shall be supported in accordance with the SMACNA recommendation for the
service involved; however, all horizontal ductwork shall be supported at intervals not to
exceed the scheduled values indicated elsewhere in this section. Horizontal ducts shall be
supported using galvanized steel bands extending up both sides and onto the construction
above, where they shall turn over and be secured with bolts and nuts fitted in inserts set in the
concrete bolted to angles secured to the construction above, or secured in another approved
manner. For attaching methods for precast double tee structural concrete, refer to details on
the Drawings and as specified herein.
2.2 LOW PRESSURE DUCT SUPPORT SCHEDULE
All horizontal (rectangular) ducts up to and including 40 inches in their greater dimension
shall be supported by means of No. 18 U.S. gauge band iron hangers attached to the ducts by
means of screws, rivets, or clamps and fastened to above inserts with toggle bolts, beam
clamps or other approved means. Duct shall have at least one pair of supports 8' 0" on centers.
Clamps shall be used to fasten hangers to reinforcing on sealed ducts. Refer also to drawing
details. Horizontal (rectangular) ducts larger than 40 inches in their greatest dimension shall
be supported by means of hanger rods bolted to angle iron trapeze hangers. Duct shall have at
least one pair of supports 8' 0" on centers according to the following:

2.4 DUCT HANGERS - GENERAL NOTES (all pressures)


Hanger straps on duct width of 60 inches and under shall lap under the duct a minimum of 1
inch and have minimum of one fastening screw on the bottom and two on the side. Hanger
straps on duct widths over 60 inches shall be bolted to duct reinforcing with 3/8" bolts
minimum. Use 3/8" minimum bolts for securing duct hanger to band straps. All round ducts
shall be supported within 3 feet of all horizontal or vertical turns.

3.0 EXECUTION
The works shall be carried out in coordination with all other services. Manufacturer’s
recommendations for supports for equipment to be fully complied with.

SECTION 22 05 29.13 HANGERS AND SUPPORTS FOR HVAC PIPING

1.0 GENERAL

1.1 CODE & COMPLIANCE: All materials and workmanship described herein shall be in
accordance with the latest editions and addenda of the codes and standards listed below and
all State, and local codes, and/or specifications, the more stringent shall be govern.
ASHRAE, ASME, ASTM, BS

1.2 QUALITY ASSURANCE: All materials and equipment to be used for this contract shall be
standard products of a reputable manufacturer regularly engaged in the production of same.
All material of the same type shall be provided from the same manufacturer. Any work or
materials found to be defective or which do not meet the requirements of these specifications,
shall be replaced by the Vendor at his own expense. All materials shall be new, unused and
free of defects and imperfections.

1.3 COORDINATION: In selecting the units, the tenderer shall carefully check and confirm that
the units can be installed and conveniently serviced and maintained within the respective
spaces indicated on the drawings for unit installation.

1.4 SUBMITTALS: All materials submittals shall include a detailed, clause-wise, compliance
statement. All materials submittals shall include detailed catalogues, product literature and
descriptions of all equipment and fittings with selection charts, capacities etc. All material
submittals shall include copies of relevant standards. Provide detailed shop drawings of the
items of equipment being provided, indicating the dimensions, materials and characteristics.
Materials selection data to be submitted. Shop drawings to include typical details for both
vertical and horizontal pipe work including locations. Contractor to submit details and
calculations of how proposed loads can be safely accommodated by the structure. Shop
drawings including fixing details of equipment, duct work, piping etc. to building structures,
whether or not shown in Tender drawings.

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE & HANDLING: Unit shall be delivered factory assembled with
protective crating and covering and their delivery coordinated in sufficient time to allow
movement into building. Vendor shall be solely responsible for the adequacy of the
preparation for shipment provisions with respect to materials and applications. Adequate
protection shall be provided against mechanical damage and atmospheric corrosion in transit
and for a 6 month period of outdoor storage at job site prior to installation. Miscellaneous
parts shall be tagged or marked with the equipment item number for which they are intended.

1.6 WARRANTY: Vendor shall guarantee and provide a written statement as proof that the unit
shall perform as specified on the Data Sheets. All equipment shall be guaranteed for
satisfactory performance and shall be warranted against faulty design, defective or improper
materials. The Material and Workmanship Guarantees shall be extended for a period of
eighteen months from the date of shipment or one year from the date the equipment is placed
in service whichever occurs first.

2.0 PRODUCTS

2.1 MATERIALS
All hangers, supports, anchors, and guides shall be in accordance with the British Standard
BS 3974. Dielectric Protection. Furnish acceptable protection or copper plated hangers
between ferrous and nonferrous metal pipe and hangers on all water piping. All supports,
clamps or frames shall be protected against corrosion by either galvanising or two coats of
suitable primer with two coats of approved epoxy paint. Supports/clamps or frames used

outside the building shall be galvanised. All steel hangers, rods, supports, clamps etc. shall be
factory hot deep glavanized steel.
Horizontal Piping Hangers
a. Provide clevis type supports. Keep the clevis nut outside the insulation.
b. Where pipe exceeds maximum loading recommended for clevis type hangers, furnish
steel pipe clamps.
c. For pipes 200 mm and larger, and where provision for expansion and contraction is
required, provide single pipe-roll support with two rods and adjustable sockets, or for
pipe 300 mm and smaller, adjustable swivel pipe-roll with one rod.
d. Provide trapeze hangers where several pipes can be installed parallel and at the same
level, and fabricate from structural steel shapes. Use roller chairs or pipe-roll stands
where provision for expansion is required.
e. Spacing shall not be farther than the closest interval required for any size pipe
supported thereby, or as necessary to prevent damage or failure to the structure.
f. Where there is doubt of the structural capacity for concentrated loads necessary
structural calculations shall be carried out and the load distributed sufficiently.
Floor Supports: Provide one of the following means of supporting horizontal piping
from floor:
g. Where bottom of piping is less than 450 mm above finished floor, furnish cast-iron
pipe rests with pipe nipples to suit. Fasten to floor.
h. Contractor to fabricate galvanized steel frame to suit the site conditions to the
approval of the Consultant.
Wall Supports. Provide one of the following means of supporting horizontal piping
from wall:
i. Furnish steel J-hook for pipe located close to wall (up to 80 mm pipe).
ii. For hanger suspension with 280 kg maximum loading furnish light welded-steel
bracket with hole for one rod, 19 mm diameter.
iii. For pipe-roll stand support, furnish welded-steel brackets.
The dimensions of steel members to be used for brackets shall be suitable for the
supported load and to Engineer’s approval.
Vertical Piping Supports
Vertical pipe supports shall be steel extension pipe-clamps. Manufacturer's rated maximum
loading for each size pipe shall be used (with minimum 50% safety factor) for spacing of
supports. Bolt clamp securely to pipe, reset clamp-end extension on building structure.
Beam Clamps
a. Non-"C-Style" beam clamps shall be malleable iron for 9.5 mm hanger rods, forged-
steel for hanger rod up to 38mm.
b. "C-Style" beam clamps shall be adjustable hanger rod type, malleable iron with set
screw, jam nut, retaining clip, FM and UL approved.
c. Where beam configuration does not allow horizontal movement of C-clamp when set
screw and jam nut are positioned, retaining clips may be omitted.
Inserts and Expansion bolts
a. Furnish and set inserts in concrete forms. Provide reinforcing rods for pipe sizes over
80 mm or equivalent.
b. Concrete inserts shall be as follows: Black malleable iron universal type for threaded
connections with lateral adjustment for pipe sizes up to 200mm.
c. For pipes 200 mm and over or equivalent group of pipes on trapeze, use two or more
inserts to prevent exceeding maximum loading.
d. As an alternative to the above mentioned inserts the Contractor may use expansion
bolts. If the Contractor uses expansion bolts, the maximum spacing between supports
may need to be reduced so as not to exceed the maximum loading and the expansion
bolt locations shall be determined in coordination with the structural elements.
Shields

Provide shields where required, to protect insulation at areas of contact with hangers and
supports.
Support Insulators
The Contractor shall provide moulded hard rubber insulators at all supports of insulated pipe
work to transmit pipe load to hangers (or supports) without crushing the insulation. The
rubber density shall not be less than 1100 kg/m3 and operating temperature range shall be -20
deg C to 110 deg C. The thickness of insulators shall be same as the insulation, and vapour
barrier (where specified) shall be continuous across the outside of the insulators.
3.0 EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION / APPLICATION / PERFORMANCE /ERECTION
a. Provide hangers to support the required loads. Where necessary, supports shall be
designed to permit movement due to expansion and contraction.
b. Support piping with hangers in direct contact with the pipe for insulated piping not
requiring a vapor barrier. Size hangers to fit on the outside of insulation requiring a
vapor barrier.
c. Hang pipe from substantial building structure. Piping shall not be hung from other
piping. All rigid hangers shall provide a means of vertical adjustment after erection.
Do not suspend pipe from metal roof deck.
d. “C” clamps shall be installed as per manufacturer's recommendations.
e. Where non insulated pipes, in which vibration may occur, pass through walls, floors,
or partitions, encase pipe within acoustical wall sleeves.
3.2 HORIZONTAL PIPING SUPPORT SCHEDULE:
Support horizontal piping on threaded, galvanized, hot rolled steel rod hangers. Threaded rod
shall not be smaller than hanger thread size. Where proprietary hangers are being used, the
threaded rod size shall be as required for the hanger. The maximum spacing shall be based on
the load carrying capacity of the hanger, after allowing a safety factory of 50% on the
insulated full pipe weights.

Supports of PVC, and HDPL piping shall be similar to the steel supporting schedule. Support
steel piping 300 mm and larger at 6 m intervals or less to ensure even distribution of loading
on structural members. The spacing specified herein is included to limit deflection in the pipe
to an acceptable minimum. Shorten intervals as necessary so as not to exceed the support
manufacturer's maximum recommended safe load values in accordance with BS 3974.
Trapeze Hanger. Spacing shall not be farther than the closest interval required for any size
pipe supported thereby, or as necessary to prevent damage or failure to the structure. Provide
additional framing as required to transfer loads to adequate structure.
Supporting rods over 450 mm long shall be braced at every fourth hanger with diagonal
bracing attached to the structure. The Contractor shall select support distances such that the
precast structure is not subjected to excessive point loads. The contractor will be required to
submit calculations to demonstrate that the proposed loads can be safely supported from the
structure.
3.3 VERTICAL PIPING SUPPORT
Support vertical piping with wrought steel riser clamps. Make adequate provision for
expansion, contraction, and lateral stability by using expansion joints. Also, account for
vertical expansion and lateral movement of the building structures. Support steel pipe at a
minimum of every floor as required to relieve joint stresses.
3.4 INSTALLATION

The permissible deflection of 0.25cm between consecutive brackets or hangers shall be


acceptable. The inner diameter of the pipe bracket shall exceed the outside diameter of the
pipe for providing free movement of pipes as a result of expansion and contraction by varying
temperatures. Inside edges of pipe support or bracket must be such that the pipe surface
cannot be damaged. Hangers support shall be used in situation where pipes change
direction and free movement of the pipe is allowed. All external pipe work or materials which
require protection against atmospheric corrosion shall be so fixed as to give free access all
round the pipe, for the application of paint or other protective coating. The minimum
clearance between the pipe and structure shall be 32 mm. Invert or horizontal pipes to give
constant soffit. The front on vertical pipes to give pipes to constant distance between walls
and pipes. Pipes embedded in floors and walls shall be securely banded with bituminous
impregnated tape and so fixed to allow movement due to expansion and contraction.
Alternatively the pipes may be accommodated in sleeves for inert material which shall extend
through the full finished thickness of the floor or walls and be secured against movement.
Plastic pipe work shall have expansion joints at every fixed point. In vertical runs, the
expansion joint shall be immediately above the fixed point. Spacing of expansion joints shall
be in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations. It is the contractor’s
responsibility to fully ensure that the manufacturers printed recommendations regarding type
and spacing of supports for each type of piping material are fully implemented to ensure no
problems due to expansion, contraction, deflection and leakage occur. Manufacturer’s
recommendations to be followed for the actual temperature and pressure of the find each type
of pipe is transporting. Manufacturer’s recommendations for supports for buried piping to be
fully complied with.

2.0 PRODUCT

2.1 GENERAL
All auxiliary steel and material required for supports, anchors, guides, etc. shall be provided
by the Mechanical Trades unless specifically indicated to be provided by others. Contractor
shall review all Drawings, including Structural Drawings, for details regarding pipe supports,
anchors, hangers, and guides. All Supports shall be of type and arrangement to prevent
excessive deflection, to avoid excessive bending stresses between supports, and to eliminate
transmission of vibration. All rod sizes indicated in this Specification are minimum sizes only.
This trade shall be responsible for structural integrity of all supports, anchors, guides, etc. All
structural hanging materials shall have a minimum safety factor of 5 built in. Supports,
hangers, anchors, and guides shall be fastened to the structure only at such points where the
structure is capable of restraining the forces in the equipment. The load and spacing on each

hanger and/or insert shall not exceed the safe allowable load for any component of the support
system, including the concrete which holds the inserts. Reinforcement at inserts shall be
provided as required to develop the strength required. Inserts shall be of a type which will not
interfere with reinforcing as shown on the structural Drawings and which will not displace
excessive amounts of structural concrete.
2.2 CONCRETE FOUNDATIONS ("Housekeeping Pads")
Concrete foundations for the support of equipment such as floor mounted panels, fans, air
handling units, etc., shall extend 6" on all sides beyond the limits of the mounted equipment
unless otherwise noted and shall be poured in forms built of new dressed 6" nominal lumber.
All corners of the foundations shall be neatly chamfered by means of sheet metal or triangular
wood strips nailed to the form. Foundation bolts shall be placed in the forms when the
concrete is poured, the bolts being correctly located by means of templates. Each bolt shall be
set in a sleeve of size to provide 1/2" clearance around bolt. Allow 1" below the equipment
bases for alignment and grouting. After grouting, the forms shall be removed and the surface
of the foundations shall be hand rubbed with Carborundum. Foundations for equipment
located on the exterior of the building shall be provided as indicated. Foundations shall be
constructed in accordance with Shop Drawings submitted by the Contractor for review by the
Architect/Engineer.

2.3 FLOOR-MOUNTED EQUIPMENT CENTRIFUGAL FANS


All fan mountings shall have static deflections equal to or larger than 25mm. Mount each fan
and motor on an integral structural steel fan and motor base, reinforced as necessary to
prevent base flexure and supported on neoprene-in- shear or unconfined spring mountings.
Motor slide rails shall be welded to the structural base. Design each spring mounting so that
the ends of the spring remain parallel during deflection. Each spring mounting shall be set on
6mm thick natural rubber or neoprene vibration isolation pad and shall be complete with
leveling Device. Horizontal spring constant shall be equal to vertical spring constant. All
hardware shall be zinc chromate painted or galvanized. Provide horizontal stabilizers for fans
with horizontal movement larger than 19mm and to the limit the horizontal movement to
maximum 19 mm.

2.4 CEILING SUSPENDED EQUIPMENT


All equipment hangers shall have static deflections equal to or larger than 25mm. Each
equipment shall be suspended by means of spring hangers consisting of a steel housing or
retainer incorporating a steel spring and neoprene-in-shear. If the equipment to be suspended
is not furnished with integral structural frame and external mounting lugs of suitable strength
and rigidity, install approved structural base with lugs in the field.

2.5 FLOOR-MOUNTED CENTRIFUGAL PUMPS LARGER THAN 3 HP


Mount each pump with motor on spring supported steel and concrete inertia base reinforced if
necessary, of thickness as follows,
Pumps up to 5 hp 150mm
Pumps 7-1/2 to 25 hp 250mm
Pumps >25 to 50 hp 400mm
Pump >50 to 100 hp 600mm
Each base for horizontally split pumps shall include supports for base elbows for the
discharge and suction connections and for vertically split pumps shall include support for base
elbow for suction connection. Bolt and grout base elbows to the steel and concrete pump base.
Mount the steel and concrete base on spring mountings. Where the concrete base is 'T' shaped
or other than rectangular, locate the spring mountings under the projections as well as the
main body of the base. Spring mountings shall be self-contained concrete inserts with flush
openings on the side of the base for spring adjustment or removal. Pour bases 'on roofing felt
and elevate 50mm with mounting adjustment bolts after the pumps are grouted to the base.
Alternatively, the bases may be constructed as specified for Floor-Mounted Centrifugal Fans.

No damping or snubbing materials shall be used spring deflection shall be at least 25mm and
all mountings shall have 6mm thick neoprene vibration Isolation pads at the bottom. Pump
and motor shall be on one-piece base. Base of two or more sections welded or bolted together
is not acceptable.

2.6 FLOOR-MOUNTED CENTRIFUGAL PUMPS 3 HP OR LESS


Bolt and grout each pump to neoprene-in-shear supported reinforced concrete base which is a
minimum of 150mm thick. Neoprene-in-shear mountings shall have a minimum static
deflection of 6 mm. All metal surfaces shall have friction neoprene pads both top and bottom
so they need not be bolted to the base or the floor.

2.7 BASEMENT FLOOR-MOUNTED CENTRIFUGAL PUMPS


Bolt and grout each pump to a steel and concrete base supported on 25mm 15mm thick
neoprene-steel-neoprene pads. The neoprene-steel- neoprene pads shall be in accordance with
the manufacturer's instructions for the size and weight distribution of the pump supported.
The minimum concrete base thickness shall be:
Pumps less than 5 hp 150mm
Pumps 7-1/2 to 25 hp 200mm
Pumps >25 to 50 hp 400mm
Pump >50 to 100 hp 600mm

2.8 VIBRATION ISOLATORS


All steel spring isolators should include a neoprene pad at least 10mm thick mounted next to
and in series with the spring. Seismic restraints should be employed in all steel spring
isolators to limit movement of the equipment in the vertical and horizontal directions. These
restraints shall not bypass the isolation under normal operating conditions. The neoprene used
in isolation (unless otherwise stated) should have a durometer between 30 and 70. All rubber
isolators should be double acting with no through-bolted connections. There shall be at least a
50mm air space between the bottom of the isolated equipment and the floor slab.

2.9 MISCELLANEOUS
Terminal units shall be supported by four 16 gauge, 1" wide sheet metal straps with ends
turned under bottom of box at corners. Each band shall be secured by not over 3/4" in length,
1/4" diameter sheet metal screws - two on bottom of box and one on side. The other strap end
shall be attached to the structure by 1/4" diameter threaded bolt into the concrete insert or into
drilled-hole threaded concrete expansion anchor. Where interferences occur, overhead of the
box, not allowing direct vertical support by straps, provide trapezes of Kindorf, Unistrut, or
B-Line channel suspended by 1/4" diameter galvanized threaded rods providing such
channels do not block access panels of boxes. Threaded rods shall be supported from structure
by concrete insert or by drilled-hole threaded concrete expansion anchor. Provide any other
special foundations, hangers and supports indicated on the Drawings, specified elsewhere
herein; or required by conditions at the site. Hangers and supporting structures for suspended
equipment shall be provided as required to support the load from the building structure in a
manner acceptable to the Architect/Engineer.

3.0 EXECUTION

materials shall be new, unused and free of defects and imperfections.

1.3 COORDINATION: In selecting the units, the tenderer shall carefully check and confirm that
the products can be installed and conveniently serviced and maintained within the respective

2.0 PRODUCT
2.1 MATERIAL
The Contractor shall paint all equipment, ducting, piping, hangers, bracing and other surfaces
exposed to air as specified and he shall also be responsible for all finish painting. The
minimum number of coats is specified herein under but sufficient coats shall be given to
achieve desired finish. Material for painting shall be high grade products of well known
manufacturers and when approved shall be delivered on the site in original unbroken
packages bearing the maker's name and brand. Paints of approved color only shall be used for
each application.

The Contractor shall supply tracings on linen base and four copies (also provide in soft
copies) each of charts or diagrams showing outline plans of the structure and describing
essential features of all the components of the installed systems, for the purpose of
identifying the location of all control points, valves etc. for easy operation, maintenance
and servicing. The contractor shall install in the plant room a glass framed large scale
system flow diagram duly colored to show the various piping systems and with all valves
etc. Clearly identified by their tag numbers. The Contractor shall provide identifying brass
tags for all valves, controls, etc., with numbers corresponding to those given in the charts or
diagrams specified above. The 20g. Brass tags shall be at least 65mm dia, the numbering
shall be stamped, and tags fastened to the controls and valves with brass chains and hooks.

The Contractor shall supply tracings on linen base and four copies (also provide in soft
copies) each of charts indicating schedule of daily start-up and shut down, emergency
shut down, schedule of servicing and maintenance, lubrication points and schedule, and
chart listing equipment model and serial Nos., conditions of operation, normal settings
of automatic and safety controls, data of accessories, and motors manufacturer's name and
address, and reference No. of technical and spare part catalogues supplied to the Engineer.
The Project Manager may accept reproducible sepia transparencies instead of linen base
tracings. One set of charts and diagrams shall be mounted in glass frame and permanently
fixed according to the Engineer’s directions. The Contractor shall submit to the Engineer for
approval the list of charts, diagrams, etc., which he proposes to supply.

3.0 EXECUTION
To the extent possible the Contractor will carry out the painting along with completion of
installation particularly in the occupied areas to avoid interference later on with other con-
tractors or Building completion schedule. Unpainted steel and iron and primed hardware shall
match the work to which it is attached, unless otherwise directed. Stainless steel devices shall
not be painted. All surfaces shall be clean, dry and free from dust at the time any coating is
applied. Base coats provided by others shall be in good condition and the surfaces well
covered by touching any bare or abraded spots. Base coats on works subject to close
inspection shall be rubbed smooth. Interior painting shall not be done when temperature is
below 00C. Enamel shall not be applied when temperature is below 20 0C. Exterior painting
shall not be done in frosty, fogy or damp weather or when temperature is below 10 0C.

All cloth and cotton waste that might constitute fire hazards shall be placed in closed metal
containers or destroyed each day. Upon completion of work, all containers shall be removed
from the site and destroyed in an approved manner. Paint spots, oil or stains upon adjacent
surfaces shall be removed.

All equipment and motors shall be painted with three coats of enamel paint in the factory and
shall be carefully cleaned and oiled after installation. In case the original paint has been
damaged, fresh coats of enamel paint to match the original paint shall be given. All duct, pipe
and equipment MS hangers and supports shall be thoroughly wire brushed and given one coat
of red oxide zinc chromate primer and one coat of synthetic enamel paint after installation.
MS hangers and supports visible in the occupied areas, plant rooms and other locations shall
be given finish coat of synthetic enamel paint on completion of installation.

The interior of all ducts and outlet boxes at the back of air grilles, registers and diffusers shall
be painted with two coats of dull black paint. All MS ducting, piping and surfaces and unpai-
nted equipment required to be insulated shall be thoroughly wire brushed and applied one
coat of black asphalt paint before insulation is fixed. All uninsulated MS piping, MS ducting
and surfaces, MS manufacture and unpainted fan casings, chambers and equipment shall be
thoroughly wire brushed, given one coat of red oxide zinc chromate primer and finished with
two coats of synthetic enamel paint. All uninsulated GI ducting and piping concealed or in
plant rooms shall not be painted. The visible G.I. ducting and piping in the occupied areas
shall be given two coats of synthetic enamel paint.

All 4 oz weight coarse cloth or 8 oz weight canvas jacketed insulated ducting and piping shall
be given one coat of anti fungus fire resistant water repellent emulsion. In locations where the
insulated ducting and piping is exposed and visible within the Building, such as plant rooms,
working spaces, basements, attics, passages and occupied areas, these shall then be given two
finishing coats of synthetic enamel paint. The ducting and piping shall be painted according to
a color code approved by the Consultant for identification. Where full painting is not
specified, color code strips shall be painted at intervals. Symbols and flow directional arrows

shall also be stenciled according to a Schedule approved by the Consultant. All wood surfaces
coming in contact with the Building structure shall be given a heavy coat of solignum anti
termite wood preservative paint. All other concealed wood surfaces shall be given one coat of
anti fungus water repellent primer. All boards made of wood chips, etc. shall be given one
coat of anti fungus water repellent black paint on the inner surfaces. All visible surfaces shall
be given dull mat finish with synthetic enamel paint.

1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A manufacturer's direct representative (not distributor or agent) to be on-site during initial
installation of firestop systems to train appropriate contractor personnel in proper selection and
installation procedures. This will be done per manufacturer's written recommendations
published in their literature and drawing details. Firestop System installation must meet
requirements of ASTM E-814, UL 1479 or UL 2079 tested assemblies that provide a fire rating
equal to that of construction being penetrated. Proposed firestop materials and methods shall
conform to applicable governing codes having local jurisdiction. Firestop Systems do not
reestablish the structural integrity of load bearing partitions/assemblies, or support live loads
and traffic. Installer shall consult the structural engineer prior to penetrating any load bearing
assembly. For those firestop applications that exist for which no UL tested system is available
through a manufacturer, an engineering judgment derived from similar UL system designs or
other tests will be submitted to local authorities having jurisdiction for their review and
approval prior to installation. Engineering judgment drawings must follow requirements set
forth by the International Firestop Council (September 7, 1994, as may be amended from time
to time).
1.6 SUBMITTALS
Submit Product Data: Manufacturer's specifications and technical data for each material
including the composition and limitations, documentation of UL firestop systems to be used and
manufacturer's installation instructions to comply with Section 1300. Manufacturer's
engineering judgment identification number and drawing details when no UL system is
available for an application. Engineering judgment must include both project name and
contractor’s name who will install firestop system as described in drawing. Submit material
safety data sheets provided with product delivered to job-site.
Sound Insulation Test Reports: Provide Test Certificates from qualified independent laboratories
showing clearly a minimum of 54 dB sound reduction for Firestop Systems is achieved.
Ageing Test Report showing Firestop Systems which have been tested and rated to withstand
aging in normal service life between 25 and 30 years in accordance with DafStb Guidelines for
the repair and protection of building components part 4, Section 2.4.5.6 with subsequent fire
testing to ensure long term functionality.
1.7 INSTALLER QUALIFICATIONS
Engage an experienced Installer who is certified, licensed, or otherwise qualified by the
firestopping manufacturer as having been provided the necessary training to install
manufacturer’s products per specified requirements. A supplier’s willingness to sell its
firestopping products to the Contractor or to an Installer engaged by the Contractor does not in
itself confer qualification on the buyer.
1.8 WARRANTY
Special Warranty: Written warranty, signed by Contractor agreeing to repair or replace fire
stopping system that do not comply with performance and other requirements specified in this
Section within specified warranty period.
Warranty Period: Five years from date of Substantial Completion.
Age Testing Certificate: Provide Firestop Systems which have been tested and rated to
withstand aging in normal service life between 25 and 30 years in accordance with DafStb
Guidelines for the repair and protection of building components part 4, Section 2.4.5.6 with
subsequent fire testing to ensure long term functionality. Age Testing Certificate for each
product to be submitted.

Deliver materials undamaged in manufacturer's clearly labeled, unopened containers, identified


with brand, type, and UL label where applicable. Coordinate delivery of materials with
scheduled installation date to allow minimum storage time at job-site. Store materials under
cover and protect from weather and damage in compliance with manufacturer's requirements,
including temperature restrictions. Comply with recommended procedures, precautions or
remedies described in material safety data sheets as applicable.
Do not use damaged or expired materials.
1.10 PROJECT CONDITIONS
Do not use materials that contain flammable solvents. Schedule installation of firestopping
after completion of penetrating item installation but prior to covering or concealing of openings.
Verify existing conditions and substrates before starting work. Correct unsatisfactory
conditions before proceeding.
Weather conditions: Do not proceed with installation of firestop materials when temperatures
exceed the manufacturer's recommended limitations for installation printed on product label and
product data sheet.
During installation, provide masking and drop cloths to prevent firestopping materials from
contaminating any adjacent surfaces.

2.0 PRODUCT
2.1 FIRESTOPPING, GENERAL
Provide firestopping composed of components that are compatible with each other, the
substrates forming openings, and the items, if any, penetrating the firestopping under conditions
of service and application, as demonstrated by the firestopping manufacturer based on testing
and field experience. Provide components for each firestopping system that are needed to install
fill material. Use only components specified by the firestopping manufacturer and approved by
the qualified testing agency for the designated fire-resistance-rated systems. Firestopping
Materials are either “cast-in-place” (integral with concrete placement) or “post installed.”
Provide cast-in-place firestop devices prior to concrete placement.
2.2 MATERIALS
Use only firestop products that have been UL 1479, ASTM E-814, or UL 2079 tested for
specific fire-rated construction conditions conforming to construction assembly type,
penetrating item type, annular space requirements, and fire-rating involved for each separate
instance. Cast-in place firestop devices for use with non-combustible and combustible
plastic pipe (closed and open piping systems) penetrating concrete floors, the following
products are acceptable:

For curtain wall firestopping use CP672 Sprayable fire-rated flexible joint mastic with 50%
movement capability, and to have acoustic characteristics of STC (sound transmission min.
55) and to be tested to resist seismic type cycling movement, to ensure fire resistance not less
than that specified for compartment walls and floors, including insulation and integrity when
subject to the test conditions of BS 476: Pt 20/prEN 1366, after age testing to DafStb
guidelines . All installations to be in full accordance with manufacturer’s application
instructions.
Provide a firestop system with a "F" Rating as determined by UL 1479 or ASTM E814 which is
equal to the time rating of construction being penetrated. Provide a firestop system with an
Assembly Rating as determined by UL 2079 which is equal to the time rating of construction
being penetrated.

3.0 EXECUTION
3.1 PREPARATION
Verification of Conditions: Examine areas and conditions under which work is to be performed
and identify conditions detrimental to proper or timely completion.
Verify penetrations are properly sized and in suitable condition for application of materials.
Surfaces to which firestop materials will be applied shall be free of dirt, grease, oil, rust,
laitance, release agents, water repellents, and any other substances that may affect proper
adhesion. Provide masking and temporary covering to prevent soiling of adjacent
surfaces by firestopping materials. Comply with manufacturer's recommendations for
temperature and humidity conditions before, during and after installation of firestopping. Do not
proceed until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.2 COORDINATION
Coordinate location and proper selection of cast-in-place Firestop Devices with trade
responsible for the work. Ensure device is installed before placement of concrete.
Responsible trades to provide adequate spacing of field run pipes to allow for installation of
cast-in-place firestop devices without interferences.
3.3 INSTALLATION
Regulatory Requirements: Install firestop materials in accordance with UL Fire Resistance
Directory or Omega Point Laboratories Directory.
Manufacturer's Instructions: Comply with manufacturer's instructions for installation of
through-penetration and construction joint materials.
Seal all holes or voids made by penetrations to ensure an air and water resistant seal. Consult
with mechanical engineer, project manager, and damper manufacturer prior to installation of UL
firestop systems that might hamper the performance of fire dampers as it pertains to duct work.
Protect materials from damage on surfaces subjected to traffic.
3.4 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
Examine sealed penetration areas to ensure proper installation before concealing or enclosing
areas.
Keep areas of work accessible until inspection by applicable code authorities. Inspection
of through-penetration firestopping shall be performed in accordance with ASTM E 2174,
“Standard Practice for On-Site Inspection of Installed Fire Stops” or other recognized standard.
Perform under this section patching and repairing of firestopping caused by cutting or
penetrating of existing firestop systems already installed by other trades.
3.5 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING
Remove equipment, materials and debris, leaving area in undamaged, clean condition.
Clean all surfaces adjacent to sealed holes and joints to be free of excess firestop
materials and soiling as work progresses.

SECTION 23 07 13.13 DUCT THERMAL INSULATION

1.0 GENERAL

1.1 CODE & COMPLIANCE: All materials and workmanship described herein shall be in
accordance with the latest editions and addenda of the codes and standards listed below and
all State, and local codes, and/or specifications, the more stringent shall be govern.
ASHRAE, ASME, ASTM, BS

QUALITY ASSURANCE: All ductwork requiring insulation shall be insulated as specified


herein and as required for a complete system. In each case, the insulation shall be equivalent
to that specified and materials applied and finished as described in these Specifications.
Application Company Qualifications: Company performing the Work of this Section must
have minimum three (3) years experience specializing in the trade. All insulation shall be
applied by mechanics skilled in this particular Work and regularly engaged in such
occupation. All insulation shall be applied in strict accordance with these Specifications and
with factory printed recommendations on items not herein mentioned. Unsightly, inadequate,
or sloppy Work will not be acceptable.

1.3 COORDINATION: The Contractor shall carefully check and confirm that the system can be
installed and conveniently serviced and maintained within the respective spaces indicated on
the drawings.

1.4 SUBMITTALS: Provide product description, service application, list of materials, “k” value,
“R” value, mean temperature range, and thickness for each service and location.
Manufacturer’s Installation Instructions: Indicate procedures that ensure acceptable standards
will be achieved. Submit certificates to this effect. Samples: When requested, submit three (3)
samples of any representative size illustrating each insulation type.

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE & HANDLING: Deliver materials to Site in original factory
packaging, labeled with manufacturer’s identification including product thermal ratings and
thickness. Store insulation in original wrapping and protect from weather and construction
traffic. Protect insulation against dirt, water, chemical, and mechanical damage. Maintain
ambient temperatures and conditions required by manufacturers of adhesives, mastics and
insulation cements.

1.6 WARRANTY: Vendor shall guarantee and provide a written statement as proof that the
material shall perform as specified on the Data Sheets. All material shall be guaranteed for
satisfactory performance and shall be warranted against faulty design, defective or improper
materials. The Material and Workmanship Guarantees shall be extended for a period of
eighteen months from the date of shipment or one year from the date the equipment is placed
in service whichever occurs first.

2.0 PRODUCT

Ducts shall be insulated as specified in the Schedule of Equipment and Materials.

The thermal conductivity at 240C for fiberglass insulation minimum density 16 Kg per cum
shall be not over .039 and for fire retardant self extinguishing type expanded polyurethane
insulation minimum density 50 Kg per cum not over .036 W/M 0C.

The cold air duct insulation shall have 2-ply vapor barrier of .0007" aluminum foil and 30 lbs.
natural Kraft with internal fiberglass yearn reinforcement and flame retardant adhesive. The
fiberglass insulation shall have factory fixed vapor barrier. The expanded polystyrene may

have field applied vapor barrier fixed with approved quality adhesive recommended by the
insulation manufacturer. Great care will be exercised that vapor barrier is not
damaged/pierced during installation and any damage will be repaired with the same quality of
vapor barrier.

The insulation shall be firmly fixed on the ducting with approved quality adhesive compound
recommended by the insulation manufacturer. Adhesive to be Mayasol, Dollar Industries HV
275, Hoechst 270 Mowilith, Zahabia Sealing Gum ZCL-12 or approved equal. The adhesive
shall cover atleast 25% duct area on the sides and top and 50% area on the bottom. All
circumferential and longitudinal joints shall be lapped atleast 40mm and fully sealed with
adhesive. Where necessary, the insulation shall be further mechanically secured to the ducts
and atleast 25mm wide metal bands shall be applied at the corners so that the mechanical
fastener does not pierce the insulation and vapor barrier.

3.0 EXECUTION

No insulation shall be applied to any ductwork or to any surface until all foreign matter has
been removed from the surfaces to be insulated and until the ductwork has been tested, made
tight, cleaned out and made operable. All insulation shall be applied in a manner consistent
with good practice and methods.

Insulation shall be continuous through floors, walls, partitions, etc. except when otherwise
indicated or specified. Where the application of insulation will cover nameplate attached to
equipment, the insulation shall be recessed so as to expose the name or rating plate. Where
space will not permit application of insulation in wall or slab chase, the chase shall be packed
full of 85% magnesia, mineral wool, expanded polystyrene or fiberglass and protected with
cover plates, as approved by the Engineer/Consultant.

The insulation shall be applied to the full length of the ducts including portions where internal
sound absorber liner etc. are fixed.

All access doors and removable panels shall be insulated and jacketed separately. The
insulation jacket ends on the duct and door or panel shall be sealed with 50mm wide P.V.C.
vapor seal self adhesive type taps to prevent damage to the insulation during use and
servicing.

The insulated ducts above false ceiling and other such non-exposed locations shall have a
jacket of coarse cloth, about 4 oz weight, properly fixed to the ducts and seams shall be sewn.

Insulated ducts in the plant rooms, service shafts, inspection passages and other exposed
locations within the Building shall have a jacket of 8 oz canvas properly fixed to the ducts and
seams shall be sewn.

External and weather exposed insulated ducting shall be further protected with an external
jacket as specified in the Schedule of Materials. The external jacket may be of 28g. G.I. or
aluminum sheet or Zahabia 1mm thick Polymeric canvas felt or approved equal. A full coat of
Zahabia Sealing Adhesive Coat, Type ZSAC-10 or approved equal, shall be given on the
canvas jacket and internal side of canvas felt. When the adhesive is nearly dry, the canvas felt
shall be wrapped on the ducting ensuring that the wrapping is smooth and free from wrinkles
and bubbles. All joints overlapped atleast 40mm and fully sealed with the adhesive. The
canvas felt jacketing shall be fixed and finished as recommended by the manufacturer. The
canvas felt jacket shall be further mechanically secured to the duct with 20mm wide soft
aluminum bands generally spaced at 450mm.

2.0 PRODUCT

Chilled Water and Hot Water pumps shall be insulated with good practice and methods by the
Contractor in the field as directed and approved by the Consultant. Boiler and water chillers
shall be factory insulated consistent with good practice and methods. Any chiller component
not insulated in the factory where condensation can occur will be insulated by the Contractor
in the field as directed and approved by the Consultant. Heat exchangers shall be insulated
with 2" thick 85% magnesia in layers not thicker than 1" 18g MS 3/4" mesh wire netting shall
be stretched over the heat exchanger, securely wired in place and first 3/4" thick layer of

shall be mixed with 50% by weight Portland cement and toweled into wire netting to form
smooth and hard finish. After full drying of the insulation a coating of hard setting compound
shall be applied. It shall then be painted. Steam condensate receiver tanks shall be insulated as
specified for the heat exchangers.

SECTION 23 08 13 COMMISSIONING, TESTING, ADJUSTING AND BALANCING FOR


HVAC SYSTEM

The Contractor shall, during construction, properly cap pipes and ducts to prevent the entrance of dirt,
etc. Each ducting and piping circuit shall be blown through, after completion, for as long a time as
necessary to thoroughly dean that circuit.

All air ducting sections shall be given a pressure or light test before fixing insulation and cutting
openings for branches and air devices. Any opening made shall be sealed off with airtight metal caps,
balloons or any other convenient device for giving the pressure test.

The ducts shall be pressurized with a rotary blower for medium and high pressure ducts.
(a) Low pressure ducts upto 2” wg.
(b) medium pressure ducts upto 6” wg, and
(c) High pressure ducts upto 8”0 wg.

All seams and joints shall be checked and all audible and noticeable leaks repaired in a good
workmanlike manner, by filling with an approved sealant to the inside of the joint, so that the air
pressure tends to force the sealant into the joint. A cfm leakage upto 5% of the volume of the duct
section under test shall be permissible.

In case the Consultant directs the Contractor to carry out final measured leakage test for medium or
high pressure ducting, he will follow SMACNA procedure for leak testing. All water piping shall be
tested with a hydraulic pressure of 1-1/2 times the operating pressure, but not less than 50 psig for
steam and 150 psig for water, or at a pressure approved by the Engineer, for sufficient time to detect
leaks and defects. All leaks and defects shall be made good in a proper workmanlike approved
manner. If necessary piping shall be taken down and re-erected, and any make-shift or temporary
repair of leaks will not be permitted. The Contractor shall test all electric motors, electric wiring and
earthing and furnish test records to the Engineer. After the entire installation has been completed, the
Contractor shall commission the equipment, making all necessary adjustments in the equipment,
plants, balancing valves, air dampers, air devices etc., as called for and submit reports of performance
tests as specified elsewhere in this specification.

Commissioning and Performance Tests


The airconditioning system described in this specification and shown on the drawings shall be
commissioned. A programme for the commissioning, and any specified- tests shall be prepared and
this shall be incorporated in the contract programme, following approval by the Project Manager. All
commissioning engineers/specialists shall be qualified to undertake such work and then competence
shall be demonstrated to the
satisfaction of the Project Manager/Consultant.

Commissioning shall mean, the advancement of all the building services systems, from the state of
static completion to full working order, adjusted to the design requirements, which are given. The cost
of providing all instruments and associated equipment whether of a temporary and / or permanent
nature, attendance of any specialists, and for me provision of test points required for the
commissioning and testing, shall be included in the tender. A recent calibration certificate for each
instrument shall be available for inspection. A schedule of the instruments to be used shall be
submitted to the Project Manager for approval, prior to the commencement of commissioning and
testing. A comprehensive report shall be prepared for each system, which shall record all the
parameters, which affect the performance of the system at the time of commissioning. A similar report
shall be prepared for any specified test. The report shall be vetted /scrutinized by me consultant before
the approval is accorded by the Project Manager. Project Managers approval must be gained before

the services are handed over to the owner. Three copies of each of the reports shall be handed over to

Unless otherwise stated in this specification, me Project Manager shall be given seven days clear
notice of all tests.

All air distribution and extract systems shall be commissioned as per ASHRAE recommended
methods detailed in the ASHRAE Handbooks.

The commissioning report for each system shall include on the basis of following parameters.
(a) fan speed.
(b) fan static pressure - suction and discharge.
(c) motor current.
(d) pulley sizes.
(e) main & branch air volumes. (Total CFM like supply air, return air & fresh air CFM)
(f) terminal air volumes - grilles and diffusers.
(g) air volume and static pressure at test holes in ducts.

All automatic control systems shall be commissioned as per ASHRAE recommended methods
detailed in the ASHRAE Handbook. Procedure for each system shall include:-
(a) checking software algorithm for each control loop for accuracy and correct
application.
(b) checking all control loops and their individual field points for correct response,
(c) check calibration of all field sensors.
(d) check calibration and response time on transducers.
(e) manually stroke each damper and control valve with system in full operation test each
control loop at both ends of control range.

Airconditioning systems performance tests shall be carried out and may be witnessed by the Project
Manager or his Representative if they deem necessary.

The tests shall comprise:-


(a) demonstration that the systems are capable of achieving the specified internal conditions
(b) measurement of pressure drop through:
(i) filters.
(ii) cooling coils.
(c) measurement of the temperature drop through the cooling coils at the specified air volume flow
rate. During these tests the supply and return water temperature shall be recorded.
(d) measurement of the outside air conditions every two hours and at the beginning and end of each
testing period.
(e) measurement of the following temperatures and record of the time when the measurements were
made.
(i) chilled water supply and return.
(ii) cooling coil supply and return.
(iii) air entering and leaving plant (wet and dry bulb temperature).
(iv) each room (wet and dry bulb temperature).
(f) measurement of the running current of all associated electric motors.
(g) measurement of the pressure difference across all pumps with all control valves in the
“full load” position.
(h) calibration of all installed instruments.
(j) measurement of the pressure drop across any orifice plate meters or calibrated
valves.
(k) demonstration that all the automatic controls are operational.

(b) measurement of the external back ground noise level for each zone at the same time that the
internal noise levels are measured.
(c) record of the state of the internal finishes in the rooms.
(d) record of the microphone position for each measurement.

The work shall not be considered as completed, till the requirements specified above have been
complied with, to the satisfaction of the Project Manager.

All materials and equipment to be used for this contract shall be standard products of a
reputable manufacturer regularly engaged in the production of same. All material of the same
type shall be provided from the same manufacturer. Any work or materials found to be
defective or which do not meet the requirements of these specifications, shall be replaced by
the Vendor at his own expense. All materials shall be new, unused and free of defects and
imperfections.

1.3 COORDINATION
In selecting the units, the tenderer shall carefully check and confirm that the units can be
installed and conveniently serviced and maintained within the respective spaces indicated on
the drawings for unit installation.

1.4 SUBMITTALS
Submit manufacturer’s technical product data, installation instructions and dimensioned
drawings.

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE & HANDLING


Unit shall be delivered factory assembled with protective crating and covering and their
delivery coordinated in sufficient time to allow movement into building. Vendor shall be
solely responsible for the adequacy of the preparation for shipment provisions with respect to
materials and applications. Adequate protection shall be provided against mechanical damage
and atmospheric corrosion in transit and for a 6 month period of outdoor storage at job site
prior to installation. Miscellaneous parts shall be tagged or marked with the equipment item
number for which they are intended.

1.6 WARRANTY
Vendor shall guarantee and provide a written statement as proof that the unit shall perform as
specified on the Data Sheets. The Material and Workmanship Guarantees shall be extended
for a period of eighteen months from the date of shipment or one year from the date the
equipment is placed in service whichever occurs first.

1.7 FACTORY INSPECTION AND TESTING


The contractor shall be required at his own cost to have all tests on piping called for under
BS1387:1967 carried out at manufacturer’s facility. The Contractor shall provide the
manufacturer's mill test certificate for all piping.

2.0 PRODUCTS

The black M.S. piping shall be used according to Schedule of pips specified elsewhere. All
black M.S. piping 25mm and above shall be arranged with welded joints, providing flanges
where necessary for easy dismantling. The welding fittings shall be of Tube-Turn or Grinnell
or as approved. Piping below 25mm may be arranged with welded or screwed joints.

All site welding shall be done by electric arc welding process with all joints 45 0 bevel type,
pipe to be mill beveled or beveled at site by the Contractor; all scale and oxide shall be
removed with hammer, chisel or file, bevel shall be smooth and clean before welding. Both
conductors of welding machine shall be brought to the work location and shall be taped and
held together to prevent induced currents in pipes, other metals and structural steel. The
earthing lead shall be connected to pipe with suitable clamp in a manner so that welding
current shall not flow through pipe joints, pipe supports or structural steel. Earthing lead shall
not be welded to the pipe. The weld metal shall be thoroughly fused with base metal at all
points and the welds shall be of sound metal and free from slag or other defects. All welders
shall be fully qualified and approved for work.

Where screwed joints are used, the screw threads shall be cut clean and true, screwed joints
made tight with Teflon thread seal tape, approved thread seal compound or litharge. Jute
thread, red or white lead, pipe dope, caulking or filling compounds shall not be used.
Reducing fittings shall be used to change pipe sizes and no bushings shall be used. All
necessary unions shall be provided for easy dismantling.

All pipes shall be properly supported on clamps,hangers etc. of approved design. Supports
shall be designed to permit free expansion and contraction to minimise vibrations. All hang-
ers, clamps etc. for piping in the plant rooms,basements, inspection passages and vertical
risers shall be provided with rubber in shear or spring or combination antivibration supports
to prevent transmission of vibrations to the building structure. No pipe shall be suspended
from other pipes.

In general for horizontal M.S. or G.I.piping, pipe supports shall not be more than 2m apart for
pipes 25mm and smaller, 3m for pipes between 25 to 80mm, 4m for pipes between 100 to
150mm and 5m for pipes above 150mm. Copper piping 25mm OD and below shall be
supported at not more than 2m centres and above 25mm OD at maximum 2.5m centres .
Supports shall be provided as near as possible to the valves, strainers, tees, other special
fittings and equipment connections. There shall be a hanger no further than 300mm on each
side of any change of direction.

The horizontal piping hangers shall be supported from building steel framing or concrete
inserts of sufficient strength. All vertical pipes shall be supported by heavy clamps resting on
the building structure. Hangers for insulated piping shall have broad contact areas so as not to
damage insulation by load concentration. The hangers shall also support insulated pipe
without piercing the insulation and vapour barrier.

During installation, adequate temporary supports shall be provided so that the piping is not
supported by the equipment.

All pipe work shall be so arranged and assembled as to prevent undue strain or leak caused by
expansion and contraction. The riser branches shall be arranged to take up motion of risers
and mains.

Expansion joints shall be installed in the piping at building expansion joints and where
required at other locations to prevent undue stresses in the piping. The expansion joints may
be installed with tie bars as recommended by the manufacturer for the required duty. Where
space is available, expansion loop shall be used instead of an expansion joint.

the finished floor construction or thickness of the finished wall and extending 6mm beyond
the finished face of the structure on both sides.

The pipes shall be properly graded to secure easy circulation and prevent noise and water
hammer. Maximum possible pitch shall be allowed to the points where vent, relief, drip and
drain connections are provided. Capped dirt pockets shall be provided at all riser bottoms,low
points and other places where dirt and scale may accumulate. The dirt pocket shall be
minimum 150mm long, full size upto 80mm NB piping, 80mm for 100 & 125mm NB and
100mm for 150mm NB and larger piping. A drain cock/ball valve with threaded ends
(normally capped) suitable for hose connection shall be provided. Generally the Contractor
should provide automatic vents at high points. Inverted ball-float traps shall be used for auto-
matic venting of water mains at all high points.

All elbows shall be long radius type except where space limitations necessitate use of short
radius type.

External Protection of Burried MS and GI Piping.


MS, MS cement lined and GI piping shall be externally protected by fiberglass/bitumen wrap.
MS (lined or unlined) pipes shall be dry Sand Blasted to remove any corrosion, debris or
undersirable foreign materials and then cleaned by dry compressed air. A coat of synthetic
primer shall then be uniformly applied as per manufacturer's recommendations on clean dry
pipes. The primer shall not be applied during rainy or foggy weather. The pipes shall then be
let dry and excessive primer brushed off. GI pipies shall be thoroughly cleaned externally.

All strainers in water, steam and condensate return lines shall be of 'Y' pattern, preferably
installed in horizontal, alternatively in vertical downward length of pipe. The strainers shall
have cast iron or bronze bodies, flanged bodies for size 50mm and above, with remov able
screens of copper,brass, nickel or stainless steel, and of a design to allow easy removal and
replacement of strainer screen without disconnecting the main piping. The cover plate of the
strainer screen to have a threaded tapping to allow blowing out of accumulated dirt without
opening the cover plate.

Main steam shut off valve shall be installed on the boiler and steam supply line so connected
to the steam header as to prevent condensate flow back to the boiler.

Minimum 150mm long vertical leg should be arranged at equipment condensate outlet and the
steam traps installed as near to the outlet as possible. A strainer shall be installed at the trap
inlet, check valve at outlet and shut off valves on both sides.

Drip condensate collecting traps shall be installed in all steam headers, mains and piping ends
and immediately ahead of a control valve or equipment/coil inlet.

3.0 EXECUTION/INSTALLATION

At the time complete plant is operated and tested and any of the coils etc. do not have rapid
and noiseless circulation due to trapped or air bound connections or any other reason of
defective installation and workmanship, the Contractor shall be responsible to make proper
alterations in these defective connections. The piping installation shall not be accepted until it
is free from foreign matters to the satisfaction of the Engineer. The piping for fluorocarbon
refrigerant circuits shall be hard drawn copper tubing with silver soldered joints. Equip ment,
valves, strainers, etc. shall have flanged joints as required for easy dismantling and servicing.
In case of size 5/8" OD and below. The steel piping from USA and Canadian sources

shall be according to ASTM A-53 (MS piping) and A-120 (hot dip galvanized piping)
Schedule 40 and for all other sources according to B.S. 1387:1957 (medium weight) for
screwed joints to B.S. 21 pipe threads and B.S. 3601:1962 (medium weight) for welded
joints. The hard drawn seamless copper piping shall be according to ASTM B-88, Type L for
working pressure below 10 bar and Type K for higher working pressures. The soft annealed
seamless copper tubing shall be according to ASTM B-280 suitable for refrigeration service.

The schedule of piping shall be as follows:

a. The low pressure steam, steam condensate return and fuel piping shall be hot finished
seamless black carbon steel tubing.

b. All makeup water, vent, equipment drain and cold condensate drain piping shall be
galvanized steel tubing.

installed and conveniently serviced and maintained within the respective spaces indicated on
the drawings for unit installation.

1.4 SUBMITTALS
Submit manufacturer’s technical product data, installation instructions and dimensioned
drawings.

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE & HANDLING


Unit shall be delivered factory assembled with protective crating and covering and their
delivery coordinated in sufficient time to allow movement into building. Vendor shall be
solely responsible for the adequacy of the preparation for shipment provisions with respect to
materials and applications. Adequate protection shall be provided against mechanical damage
and atmospheric corrosion in transit and for a 6 month period of outdoor storage at job site
prior to installation. Miscellaneous parts shall be tagged or marked with the equipment item
number for which they are intended.

1.6 WARRANTY
Vendor shall guarantee and provide a written statement as proof that the unit shall perform as
specified on the Data Sheets. The Material and Workmanship Guarantees shall be extended
for a period of eighteen months from the date of shipment or one year from the date the
equipment is placed in service whichever occurs first.

2.0 PRODUCTS
Fluorocarbon refrigerant piping shall be hard drawn seamless copper piping of refrigeration
service quality. The piping for fluorocarbon refrigerant circuits shall be hard drawn copper
tubing with silver soldered joints. Equipment, valves, strainers, etc. shall have flanged joints
as required for easy dismantling and servicing. In case of size 5/8" OD and below.

necessary valves etc are shown in the drawings. All valves, strainers and specialities shall be
selected for 7 bar rating or 125% of working pressure of the system whichever is higher.

All valves to have self packing feature so that they can be packed while open and under
pressure.Valves 50mm and above should be with flanged bodies except for domestic water
supply or drain piping where screwed end valves may be used for sizes 65mm and
below.Screwed end valves to have unions for easy dismantling. No valve shall be installed

with its spindle downward. The valves in the plant rooms which are more than 3m above the
floor level shall be provided with chain operated sheaves and chains.

The Contractor shall provide strainers where necessary to protect all equipment, automatic
control valves etc. where proper functioning would be affected by the dirt on the seat or by
scoring of the seat.

2.0 PRODUCT
All ducts passing through walls shall have 20 gauge G.I. sheet sleeves extending 6mm beyond
the finished face of the wall on both sides. The sleeves shall be of sufficient size to cover duct
insulation or any other duct covering and allow atleast 9mm clearance in the sleeve for free
movement of the finished ducting. The clearance shall be filled with fiberglass pads or other
approved material at fire walls and similar locations. The Contractor shall be responsible for
supplying, locating and setting of all necessary duct sleeves.

All sheet metal duct work shall be fabricated from commercial quality prime finish
galvanized steel sheets. The specifications for USA and Canadian sources shall be base steel
sheets according to ASTM designation A366:62T and zinc coating according to 525-64T, 1.25
oz./sq.ft. and for all other sources base steel sheets cold rolled B.S. 1449:Part 1B:1962 and
zinc coating according to B.S. 2989:1958 Class D, 1.25 oz./sq.ft. The zinc coating should be
applied uniformly by continuous hot dip method to both sides of the base metal so that the
sheet metal can be drawn, formed, lock-seamed and spun without danger of flaking or peeling
off the zinc coating.

All uninsulated ducts shall be cross broken. Insulated ducts not to be cross broken.

All ducting shall be substantially built with approved joints and seams shall be made smooth
on the inside and neat on the outside. The duct joints shall be made as air tight as possible.
The laps shall be made in the direction of air flow and no flanges shall project inside the
ducting.

Ducts, the width of the greater dimension of which exceeds 30 inches shall be constructed of
not more than four feet sections. Ducts, the width of the greater dimension of which is 30" or
less shall be constructed of not more than eight feet sections.

All elbows shall preferably be full radius type. If space does not permit, square elbows may
be used with double thickness shop fabricated turning vanes riveted with the ducting. Due to
space limitations curved elbows with less than a full radius bend may also be used provided
single thickness turning vanes are installed in the elbow. Full radius elbows of widths 40"-60"
shall have one and over 60" shall have two single thickness turning vanes. Minimum throat
radius of any curved or square elbow shall be 3 inches.

Wherever necessary in duct work, casings or sheet metal partitions, suitable access doors and
frames shall be provided to permit inspection, operation and maintenance of valves, controls,
fire dampers, filters, bearings, traps or other apparatus concealed behind the sheet metal work.
Access doors shall also be provided at distance not exceeding 23m for duct cleaning. All such
doors shall be of double construction, of not less than 20 gauge G.I. sheet metal and shall
have sponge rubber gasket around the entire perimeter to make the joint airtight. They shall
be hung on heavy flat hinges and shall be secured in the closed position by means of wing
type catches. In no case shall access to any of the items of equipment requiring inspection,
adjustment or servicing require the removal of nuts, bolts, screws, wedges or any other
screwed or loose device.

The supply and return air duct connections with the fans and equipment shall be made
through heavy duty air tight pre-fabricated flexible duct connector to prevent transmission of
vibrations. The flexible duct connector will have 75mm 24g G.I. sheet, 150mm of fabric and
75mm 24g G.I. sheet. The fabric shall be fixed with G.I. sheets with double-lock grip. The
fabric shall be non-combustible heavy glass fabric double coated with fire retardant neoprene

to become fully water proof and air tight of approx. 30oz weight per sq.yd. The flexible
connector shall be Duro-Dyne Super Metal Fab or approved equal.

The ducts shall be adequately supported from hangers firmly fixed and generally suspended
from the building structure with the help of concrete inserts, rawl bolts or shooting bolts. The
hangers and supports shall not pierce the insulation which shall be suitably protected and
reinforced at that location. The bottom support shall be 30x6mm M.S. flat or 25x3mm angle
for ducts upto 12" width, 30x3mm angle upto 30" width, 40x3mm angle upto 72" width and
50x5mm angle upto 96" width. Hangers shall be spaced on average 3 meter centres with a
hanger no further than 300mm on each side of any changes of direction. Ducting passing
through building expansion joints shall be supported on either side of joint. The hangers for
horizontal ducts shall be 9mm round rods for ducts upto 30" width, 12mm round rods or
40x3mm M.S. flat upto 72" width and 40x5mm M.S. flat upto 96" width. The vertical ducts
shall be supported at each floor with M.S. angle or channel supports resting on slab and
bolted with the duct bracing or MS flat straps riveted with the duct. Perforated band or wire
shall not be used in any case for supporting the ducts.

The low pressure ducting with static pressures upto 50mm wg and velocities upto 10mps,
shall be fabricated according to the following schedule:

3.0 EXECUTION

All sheet metal work for various air systems shall be furnished, installed, completely
connected, tested and adjusted. The Contractor shall make shop drawings of all duct work and
the same shall include details of all splitters, takeoffs, vanes, dampers, elbows and all other
necessary fittings required for the proper operation of the air systems. Shop drawings and
other details shall be submitted to the Consultant for approval before fabrication. Exact
dimensions and locations of diffusers, registers, grilles and louvers shall be submitted to the
Consultant for approval, otherwise any changes directed after installation shall be made by
the Contractor without any additional cost to the Employer. For diffusers and registers
adequate provision shall be made in the neck connections for installation of deflectors and
dampers. All duct openings, diffuser, register and grille necks/ boxes must be tightly closed
during construction to keep out rubbish.

1.2 QUALITY ASSURANCE


All materials and equipment to be used for this contract shall be standard products of a
reputable manufacturer regularly engaged in the production of same. All material of the same
type shall be provided from the same manufacturer. Any work or materials found to be
defective or which do not meet the requirements of these specifications, shall be replaced by
the Vendor at his own expense. All materials shall be new, unused and free of defects and
imperfections.

1.3 COORDINATION
In selecting the units, the tenderer shall carefully check and confirm that the units can be
installed and conveniently serviced and maintained within the respective spaces indicated on
the drawings for unit installation.

1.4 SUBMITTALS
Submit manufacturer’s technical product data, installation instructions and dimensioned
drawings.

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE & HANDLING


Unit shall be delivered factory assembled with protective crating and covering and their
delivery coordinated in sufficient time to allow movement into building. Vendor shall be
solely responsible for the adequacy of the preparation for shipment provisions with respect to
materials and applications. Adequate protection shall be provided against mechanical damage
and atmospheric corrosion in transit and for a 6 month period of outdoor storage at job site
prior to installation. Miscellaneous parts shall be tagged or marked with the equipment item
number for which they are intended.

1.6 WARRANTY
Vendor shall guarantee and provide a written statement as proof that the unit shall perform as
specified on the Data Sheets. All equipment shall be guaranteed for satisfactory performance
and shall be warranted against faulty design, defective or improper materials. The Material
and Workmanship Guarantees shall be extended for a period of eighteen months from the date
of shipment or one year from the date the equipment is placed in service whichever occurs
first.

1.7 FACTORY INSPECTION AND TESTING

Each product shall be assembled at the factory, inspected and determined to be in compliance
with the specifications. Any deviations found shall be corrected.

2.0 PRODUCT
All ducts passing through walls shall have 20 gauge G.I. sheet sleeves extending 6mm beyond
the finished face of the wall on both sides. The sleeves shall be of sufficient size to cover duct
insulation or any other duct covering and allow atleast 9mm clearance in the sleeve for free
movement of the finished ducting. The clearance shall be filled with fiberglass pads or other
approved material at fire walls and similar locations. The Contractor shall be responsible for
supplying, locating and setting of all necessary duct sleeves.

All sheet metal duct work shall be fabricated from commercial quality prime finish
galvanized steel sheets. The specifications for USA and Canadian sources shall be base steel
sheets according to ASTM designation A366:62T and zinc coating according to 525-64T,
1.25 oz./sq.ft. and for all other sources base steel sheets cold rolled B.S. 1449:Part 1B:1962
and zinc coating according to B.S. 2989:1958 Class D, 1.25 oz./sq.ft. The zinc coating should
be applied uniformly by continuous hot dip method to both sides of the base metal so that the
sheet metal can be drawn, formed, lock-seamed and spun without danger of flaking or peeling
off the zinc coating.

All uninsulated ducts shall be cross broken. Insulated ducts not to be cross broken.

All ducting shall be substantially built with approved joints and seams shall be made smooth
on the inside and neat on the outside. The duct joints shall be made as air tight as possible.
The laps shall be made in the direction of air flow and no flanges shall project inside the
ducting.

Ducts, the width of the greater dimension of which exceeds 30 inches shall be constructed of
not more than four feet sections. Ducts, the width of the greater dimension of which is 30" or
less shall be constructed of not more than eight feet sections.

All elbows shall preferably be full radius type. If space does not permit, square elbows may
be used with double thickness shop fabricated turning vanes riveted with the ducting. Due to
space limitations curved elbows with less than a full radius bend may also be used provided
single thickness turning vanes are installed in the elbow. Full radius elbows of widths 40"-60"
shall have one and over 60" shall have two single thickness turning vanes. Minimum throat
radius of any curved or square elbow shall be 3 inches.

Wherever necessary in duct work, casings or sheet metal partitions, suitable access doors and
frames shall be provided to permit inspection, operation and maintenance of valves, controls,
fire dampers, filters, bearings, traps or other apparatus concealed behind the sheet metal work.
Access doors shall also be provided at distance not exceeding 23m for duct cleaning. All such
doors shall be of double construction, of not less than 20 gauge G.I. sheet metal and shall
have sponge rubber gasket around the entire perimeter to make the joint airtight. They shall be
hung on heavy flat hinges and shall be secured in the closed position by means of wing type
catches. In no case shall access to any of the items of equipment requiring inspection,
adjustment or servicing require the removal of nuts, bolts, screws, wedges or any other
screwed or loose device.

The supply and return air duct connections with the fans and equipment shall be made
through heavy duty air tight pre-fabricated flexible duct connector to prevent transmission of

vibrations. The flexible duct connector will have 75mm 24g G.I. sheet, 150mm of fabric and
75mm 24g G.I. sheet. The fabric shall be fixed with G.I. sheets with double-lock grip. The
fabric shall be non-combustible heavy glass fabric double coated with fire retardant neoprene
to become fully water proof and air tight of approx. 30oz weight per sq.yd. The flexible
connector shall be Duro-Dyne Super Metal Fab or approved equal.

The ducts shall be adequately supported from hangers firmly fixed and generally suspended
from the building structure with the help of concrete inserts, rawl bolts or shooting bolts. The
hangers and supports shall not pierce the insulation which shall be suitably protected and
reinforced at that location. The bottom support shall be 30x6mm M.S. flat or 25x3mm angle
for ducts upto 12" width, 30x3mm angle upto 30" width, 40x3mm angle upto 72" width and
50x5mm angle upto 96" width. Hangers shall be spaced on average 3 meter centres with a
hanger no further than 300mm on each side of any changes of direction. Ducting passing
through building expansion joints shall be supported on either side of joint. The hangers for
horizontal ducts shall be 9mm round rods for ducts upto 30" width, 12mm round rods or
40x3mm M.S. flat upto 72" width and 40x5mm M.S. flat upto 96" width. The vertical ducts
shall be supported at each floor with M.S. angle or channel supports resting on slab and
bolted with the duct bracing or MS flat straps riveted with the duct. Perforated band or wire
shall not be used in any case for supporting the ducts.

The low pressure ducting with static pressures upto 50mm wg and velocities upto 10mps,
shall be fabricated according to the following schedule:

The ducts shall be fabricated with following type of joints or as approved:

The 2' centres bracing would be located at joints and between joints.

The bracing shall be carried around all four sides, bracing angle frame welded at 4 corners
and riveted with the ducts at maximum 150mm centres. Special joints, bracing and hangers as
specified by the Consultant shall be used for ducts with larger dimension over 96".

The ducting and air dampers shall be furnished to comply with these specifications and latest
edition of SMACNA Duct Construction Standards. Where there is a conflict between the two,
these specifications will prevail.

3.0 EXECUTION
All sheet metal work for various air systems shall be furnished, installed, completely
connected, tested and adjusted. The Contractor shall make shop drawings of all duct work and
the same shall include details of all splitters, takeoffs, vanes, dampers, elbows and all other
necessary fittings required for the proper operation of the air systems. Shop drawings and
other details shall be submitted to the Consultant for approval before fabrication. Exact
dimensions and locations of diffusers, registers, grilles and louvers shall be submitted to the
Consultant for approval, otherwise any changes directed after installation shall be made by the
Contractor without any additional cost to the Employer. For diffusers and registers adequate
provision shall be made in the neck connections for installation of deflectors and dampers. All
duct openings, diffuser, register and grille necks/ boxes must be tightly closed during
construction to keep out rubbish.

The pre-insulated aluminium HVAC ducts will be produced using environmentally compatible
sandwich panels like the PIRAL HD HYDROTEC PANEL and with the following properties:

 Panel thickness: 20.5 mm;


 External aluminium: 0.08mm thick, embossed and protected with polyester lacquer;
 Internal aluminium: 0.08mm thick, embossed and protected with polyester lacquer;
 Initial thermal conductivity: 0.022 W/(m °C) at 10 °C;
 Insulating material density: 50-54 kg/m3;
 Insulating material: polyurethane which has been expanded with the use of only water and not
with CFC, HCFC, HFC or HC gasses;
 Insulation expanding agent: ODP (ozone depletion potential) = 0 and GWP (global warming
potential) = 0;
 % closed cells: > 95% according to ISO 4590;
 Rigidity class: R 200,000 according to UNI EN 13403;
 Fire reaction class: 0-1 according to Italian ministerial decree (D.M.) 26/06/84;
 Fire reaction class: B according to European Standard EN 13501-1;
 Fire reaction class: approved according to the ISO 9705 standard (Room corner test);
 Smoke toxicity and opacity: class F1 according to NF F 16-101;
 Smoke toxicity: FED and FEC < 0.3 according to prEN 50399-2-1/1;

Ducts will be built to in conformity with the UNI EN 13403 standard.

REINFORCEMNETS
Where necessary, the ducts will be fitted with special reinforcement bars in order to provide further
mechanical strength during operation. Said reinforcements will be calculated using the manufacturer's
charts. The maximum deflection of the sides of the duct must not exceed 3% or in any case 30 mm, as
laid down in standard UNI EN 13403.

FLANGING
The individual lengths of ducting will be joined together by means of special "invisible" flanges with
hidden bayonet connections, providing a suitable airtight and mechanical seal to meet the
requirements of standard UNI EN 13403. The maximum length of each section of duct will be 4
metres.

TURNING VANES & SPLITTERS


All rectangular elbows must be fitted with special turning vanes; the large circular elbows will be
fitted with splitters in order to meet the requirements of standard UNI EN 1505.

SUPPORTS
Ducts will be supported by special brackets at intervals which should not exceed 4 metres if the
widest side of the duct is less than 1 metre, and at intervals which should not exceed 2 metres if the
widest side of the duct is more than 1 metre. Accessories, such as: volume dampers, fire dampers,
diffusers, in-duct heating coils etc. will be supported independently so that the ducts do not have to
support their weight.

Ducts will be fitted with special control points for airflow sensors and doors for inspection and
cleaning set at intervals along the ducts as laid down by standard EN 12097 and by the "Guidelines
published in the Italian Official Gazette dated 3/11/2006 relating to ventilation system maintenance".
Doors may be made using the same type of sandwich panel used to produce the ducting, in
conjunction with the relevant profiles. Doors will be fitted with seals in order to provide the required
airtight seal. Alternatively, P3ductal inspection hatches may be used.

AHU CONNECTION
Connections between air handling units and ducting will be performed by means of special
antivibration joints in order to isolate them from vibrations. Ducts will be supported independently in
order to prevent that the weight of the ducts be transferred to the flexible fittings. Moreover,
connection with the air handling unit will allow the unit to be uncoupled for system maintenance
purposes. Should the antivibration joints be fitted outdoor, they will have to be waterproof.

2.2 EXTERNAL DUCTING

The pre-insulated aluminium HVAC ducts will be produced using environmentally compatible
sandwich panels like the PIRAL HD HYDROTEC OUTSIDER PANEL and with the following
properties:

 Panel thickness: 30.5 mm;


 External aluminium: 0.2mm thick, embossed and protected with polyester lacquer;
 Internal aluminium: 0.08mm thick, embossed and protected with polyester lacquer;
 Initial thermal conductivity: 0.022 W/(m °C) at 10 °C;
 Insulating material density: 46-50 kg/m3;
 Insulating material: polyurethane which has been expanded with the use of only water and not
with CFC, HCFC, HFC or HC gasses;
 Insulation expanding agent: ODP (ozone depletion potential) = 0 and GWP (global warming
potential) = 0;
 % closed cells: > 95% according to ISO 4590;
 Rigidity class: R 900,000 according to UNI EN 13403;
 Fire reaction class: 0-1 according to Italian ministerial decree (D.M.) 26/06/84;
 Fire reaction class: B according to European Standard EN 13501-1;

Ducts will be protected once installed with a waterproofing Gum Skin resin. Bitumen-based
compounds must not be used. It is advisable to apply strengthening gauze around flanging points.
Ducts will be built to in conformity with standard UNI EN 13403.

mechanical strength during operation. Said reinforcements will be calculated using the manufacturer's

SNOW/WIND LOADS
Ducts must be also sized in order to bare the snow/wind loads as stated in the manufacturer's tables.

CONSTRUCTION SOLUTIONS
Should the ducts pass through the roof, they should be fitted at the end with "gooseneck" shaped
bends in order to prevent water and/or snow from getting in. All external duct openings, like the
exhaust outlets, external air intakes etc. will be fitted with special bird grids.

2.3 DUCTING IN AGGRESSIVE ENVIRONMENT (KITCHEN, SWIMMING POOL ETC.)

The pre-insulated aluminium HVAC ducts will be produced using environmentally compatible
sandwich panels like the PIRAL HD HYDROTEC PANEL COUPLED W/POLYESTER FILM
with the following properties:

 Panel thickness: 20.5 mm;


 External aluminium: 0.08mm thick, embossed and coupled with a corrosion resistant
polyester film 13 my thick;
 Internal aluminium: 0.08mm thick, embossed and coupled with a corrosion resistant polyester
film 13 my thick;
 Initial thermal conductivity: 0.022 W/(m °C) at 10 °C;
 Insulating material density: 50-54 kg/m3;
 Insulating material: polyurethane which has been expanded with the use of only water and not
with CFC, HCFC, HFC or HC gasses;
 Insulation expanding agent: ODP (ozone depletion potential) = 0 and GWP (global warming
potential) = 0;
 % closed cells: > 95% according to ISO 4590;

sandwich panels like the PIRAL HD HYDROTEC ANTIMICROBIAL PANEL with the following
properties:

 Panel thickness: 20.5 mm;


 External aluminium: 0.08mm thick, embossed and protected with polyester lacquer;
 Internal aluminium: 0.2mm thick, smooth and with antimicrobial treatment;
 Initial thermal conductivity: 0.022 W/(m °C) at 10 °C;
 Insulating material density: 50-54 kg/m3;
 Insulating material: polyurethane which has been expanded with the use of only water and not
with CFC, HCFC, HFC or HC gasses;
 Insulation expanding agent: ODP (ozone depletion potential) = 0 and GWP (global warming
potential) = 0;
 % closed cells: > 95% according to ISO 4590;
 Rigidity class: R 200.000 according to UNI EN 13403;

contact approved) and FIFRA (food contact approved).

Ducts will be built to in conformity with the UNI EN 13403 standard. The ducts will have to be
manufactured using accessories with antimicrobial treatment.

widest side of the duct is less than 1 metre, and at intervals which should not exceed 2 metres if the
widest side of the duct is more than 1 metre. Accessories, such as: volume dampers, fire dampers,
diffusers, in-duct heating coils etc. will be supported independently so that the ducts do not have to
support their weight.
INSPECTION
Ducts will be fitted with special control points for airflow sensors and doors for inspection and
cleaning set at intervals along the ducts as laid down by standard EN 12097 and by the "Guidelines
published in the Italian Official Gazette dated 3/11/2006 relating to ventilation system maintenance".
Doors may be made using the same type of sandwich panel used to produce the ducting, in
conjunction with the relevant profiles. Doors will be fitted with seals in order to provide the required
airtight seal. Alternatively, P3ductal inspection hatches may be used.
AHU CONNECTION
Connections between air handling units and ducting will be performed by means of special
antivibration joints in order to isolate them from vibrations. Ducts will be supported independently in
order to prevent that the weight of the ducts be transferred to the flexible fittings. Moreover,
connection with the air handling unit will allow the unit to be uncoupled for system maintenance
purposes. Should the antivibration joints be fitted outdoor, they will have to be waterproof.

The pre-insulated aluminium HVAC ducts will be produced using environmentally compatible
sandwich panels like the PIRAL HD HYDROTEC OUTSIDER ANTIMICROBIAL PANEL with
the following properties:

 Panel thickness: 30.5 mm;


 External aluminium: 0.2mm thick, embossed and protected with polyester lacquer;
 Internal aluminium: 0.2mm thick, smooth and with antimicrobial treatment;
 Initial thermal conductivity: 0.022 W/(m °C) at 10 °C;
 Insulating material density: 46-50 kg/m3;
 Insulating material: polyurethane which has been expanded only with the use of only water
and not with CFC, HCFC, HFC or HC gasses;

Ducts will be protected once installed with a waterproofing Gum Skin resin. Bitumen-based
compounds must not be used. It is advisable to apply strengthening gauze around flanging points.
Ducts will be built to in conformity with standard UNI EN 13403. The ducts will have to be
manufactured using accessories with antimicrobial treatment.

REINFORCEMNETS
Where necessary, the ducts will be fitted with special reinforcement bars in order to provide further
mechanical strength during operation. Said reinforcements will be calculated using the manufacturer's
charts. The maximum deflection of the sides of the duct must not exceed 3% or in any case 30 mm, as
laid down in standard UNI EN 13403.
FLANGING
The individual lengths of ducting will be joined together by means of special "invisible" flanges with
hidden bayonet connections, providing a suitable airtight and mechanical seal to meet the
requirements of standard UNI EN 13403. The maximum length of each section of duct will be 4
metres.
TURNING VANES & SPLITTERS
All rectangular elbows must be fitted with special turning vanes; the large circular elbows will be
fitted with splitters in order to meet the requirements of standard UNI EN 1505.
SNOW/WIND LOADS
Ducts must be also sized in order to bare the snow/wind loads as stated in the manufacturer's tables.
CONSTRUCTION SOLUTIONS
Should the ducts pass through the roof, they should be fitted at the end with "gooseneck" shaped
bends in order to prevent water and/or snow from getting in. All external duct openings, like the
exhaust outlets, external air intakes etc. will be fitted with special bird grids.

3.0 EXECUTION
The Contractor shall make shop drawings of all duct work and the same shall include details of all
splitters, takeoffs, vanes, dampers, elbows and all other necessary fittings required for the proper
operation of the air systems. Shop drawings and other details shall be submitted to the Consultant for
approval before fabrication.

Exact dimensions and locations of diffusers, registers, grilles and louvers shall be submitted to the
Consultant for approval, otherwise any changes directed after installation shall be made by the
Contractor without any additional cost to the Employer. For diffusers and registers adequate provision
shall be made in the neck connections for installation of deflectors and dampers. All duct openings,
diffuser, register and grille necks/ boxes must be tightly closed during construction to keep out
rubbish.

2.0 PRODUCT

The components shall be fabricated firm not less than 18 gauges cold rolled steel sheets. The
sheets shall be thoroughly cleaned, given anticorrosion chemical treatment; PVC based zinc
chromate baked primer of light brown colour and finished with anti-corrosion and weather
resistant white baked enamel paint.

The door will rest against an angle frame of not less than 16 gauge sheet and shall have
rubber gasket around the entire perimeter to make the joint airtight. The door shall be hang on
heavy flat type hinges on one side and secured in closed position by means of two bolts on the
other side.

The size of the door shall be 3' x 2' and the size of the stamped return air grille shall be 20" x
20" with air filter plenum suitable for installing 20" x 20" x 1" thick air filter. The air filter
shall be held in position with the help of 4 wing type catches. The remaining front area of the
door shall have dummy stampings to give rigidity and to also match with the appearance of
the return air grille.

3.0 EXECUTION

Each fan coil unit shall be provided with a combination access door-return air grille-air filter
plenum to be installed in the false ceiling as shown on the drawings.

1.8 FACTORY INSPECTION AND TESTING


Each product shall be assembled at the factory, inspected and determined to be in compliance
with the specifications. Any deviations found shall be corrected.

2.0 PRODUCT
The fans shall be complete with the electric motors. The motors and motor starters provided
in respective Motor Control Centers shall comply with the requirements as specified else-
where in the documents. In case of fans with single phase motor of less than 500 watt rating a
MCB with on-off switch and "on" indicating light may be provided instead of starter. Fan
speed regulator is to be provided if specified in the Schedule. All electric motors for fans in
this section shall be totally enclosed type unless otherwise specified. The motors shall be
selected so as not to be overloaded under the specified operating conditions.

The fans shall be statically and dynamically balanced and tested in the factory. The fan-motor
set shall be selected for quiet operation. The bearings may be sleeve, ball or roller type but
must be silent running, heavy duty, self aligning type and to prevent leakage of oil or grease,
preferably sealed and permanently lubricated otherwise requiring only yearly lubrication with
oil/grease cups provided in easily accessible position.

The fans shall not transmit vibrations to the Building structure. All fans except propeller type
to be mounted on suitable rubber-in-shear or similar approved vibration isolators to isolate
from the Building structure. If specified, vibration isolators to be provided for propeller fans.

The belt driven fans shall be provided with belt guard and variable pitch pulley to adjust fan
speed +5-10% of the design selected speed for the specified duty.

Fans used for exhaust shall be provided with rain protection hood or louvers with insect
screen on the exhaust side.

Rain protection hood or louvers with insect screen (where inlet air filters are not installed)
shall be provided at the Building air inlet opening for the ventilation fans.

The fans shall be connected to the ducting with heavy duty fabric flexible connectors as
specified elsewhere.

The propeller and axial type fans used for ventilation/ exhaust shall be mounted inside a fan
chamber to allow radial flow into and from the impeller tips. Fan chamber shall be flanged at
both ends with bolt holes and fitted with external electric terminal box and inspection door for
easy access to all components for servicing and maintenance.

The propeller type fans shall be direct driven by totally enclosed fan motors.

The centrifugal fans shall be either aerofoil or backward curved non-overloading type. The
fan to have all welded heavy constructed housing rigidly supported and braced to prevent
drumming, oversized shaft with shaft seal, vee belt drive and inlet screen where no duct is
connected to inlet. Fan scrolls more than 20 inch width will have a pan type access door set in
a raised frame so that inner surface is flush and smooth with the scroll. The door shall be
provided with lift handles and secured to the frame with handgrip bolts.
The fan shall be selected at flatter part of the performance curve so that the cfm does not vary
more than 20% in the external static pressure range specified in the Schedule of Fans.

The axial flow blowers shall only be used where noise level is of secondary importance. The
blower shall have adjustable pitch blades and preferably short length steel housing. Long
casing if provided shall have a removable access door to facilitate internal inspection and
servicing of the fan. The fan shall preferably be direct coupled to electric motor. Alternatively
it may be vee-belt driven with motor mounted outside the casing.

The roof extractor/ventilator fans shall be low silhouette type with heavy gauge weather proof
construction. The parts shall preferably be of non-ferrous construction and all ferrous parts
should have anticorrosion treatment with weather resistant baked enamel finish. The housing
should be weather tight but easily removable for inspection and servicing and it shall be
provided with a hood hinged to the housing with lock hasp providing easy access to all
components, and a bird screen. The fan wheel may be propeller or axial flow or aerofoil or
backward curved centrifugal type with direct connected motor. In case of centrifugal type the
motor shall be in a separate compartment not coming in contact with the exhaust air and it
shall be cooled by ambient air. In case there are any corrosive fumes in the exhaust air, only
such type of fans shall be used.

3.0 EXECUTION
Ventilation and/or exhaust blowers and fans shall be installed as shown on the drawings. The
size and capacity of the fans and blowers shall be as specified in the Schedule of Equipment.
In these specifications the words fan and blower shall be synonymous. The fans shall be
heavy duty and quiet running suitable for continuous operation.

The tenderer shall give the following information for each type of fan:

a. Capacity in cfm and operating static pressure in mm wg, rpm, fan HP requirement
and motor HP.
b. Overall dimensions and operating weight.
c. Manufacturer's performance guarantee certificate and technical bulletins.

2.0 PRODUCT
The air devices shall be neatly finished. The corner joints will be invisible hairline butts. A
sponge rubber gasket shall be provided around the perimeter for tight fit against adjoining
structure.

All diffusers shall be furnished with multi louver type volume damper in neck, controlled
from face of the diffuser. All wall type supply air grilles and registers shall have horizontal
and vertical adjustable deflecting bars and registers shall also have opposed blade volume
control dampers adjustable from face with a removable key. Registers and grilles shall have a
minimum of 75% free area.

All return/exhaust air grilles shall be of the fixed bar type to match supply outlets and have a
minimum of 75% free area. Return/exhaust air registers with opposed blade volume control
dampers adjustable from the face are to be installed where shown on the drawings.

Door louvers, where shown on the drawings, for return/ exhaust air shall be supplied by the
Contractor if so specified on the drawings, otherwise these will be arranged by the Employer.

Slot or Linear type diffusers of aluminum construction suitable for ceiling or side wall
installation shall be provided where shown on the drawings. Continuous installation where
shown will be with keyed-together sections assuring invisible hairline butts for neat
appearance. The diffusers shall be installed with plenums and flexible ducting connection
between the plenums and sheet metal ducts. Supply, return and exhaust air diffusers to have
volume control dampers at the back adjustable from diffuser face. Dummy diffusers for
continuous installation to have blank-off baffles at the back.Slot type diffusers will have 3/4"
slot. Supply air diffusers to have adjustable air pattern controller.

The Linear diffusers to have removable cores to provide access to dampers and accessories
and firmly locked with framing with quick opening concealed latches. The removable core
has fixed vanes to provide an air path parallel to the ceiling or wall.Slot type diffusers to be
similar to T&B Imperialine Series 6000, 3/4" slot with E margin, Linear type diffusers to be
T&B Imperialine Series EL, or approved equal.

3.0 EXECUTION
The Contractor shall install where shown on the drawings all air devices, grilles, registers and
diffusers, of sizes and types as specified, or of equivalent jet areas and cfm capa cities as
approved by the Consultant. The Contractor shall check and confirm with the air devices
manufacturer that proposed grilles, registers and diffusers shall meet the capacity and "throw"
requirements without draft, dead spots and noise. Any changes or alternatives shall be notified
to the Engineer/Consultant for approval.

The air devices shall be of MS or Aluminum construction as specified with approved color
finish. Aluminum air devices may be with anodized or powder coated finish. MS air devices
shall be thoroughly cleaned, given anticorrosion chemical treatment; coating of primer and

1.5 WARRANTY

Vendor shall guarantee and provide a written statement as proof that the unit shall perform as
specified on the Data Sheets.

i. All equipment shall be guaranteed for satisfactory performance and shall be warranted
against faulty design, defective or improper materials.

ii. The Material and Workmanship Guarantees shall be extended for a period of eighteen
months from the date of shipment or one year from the date the equipment is placed in
service whichever occurs first.

1.5 FACTORY INSPECTION AND TESTING


Each unit shall be assembled at the factory, inspected and determined to be in compliance
with the specifications. Any deviations found shall be corrected.

2.0 PRODUCT

2.1 GENERAL

All equipment shall be of such overall dimensions, operating weights service area
requirements and configuration that it can be located where shown on the plans without any
adverse effect on its performance and clearance requirements. Any change in other trades
work, anticipated by offering alternate equipment shall be estimated by the Contractor and its
cost shall be included in the quoted price for HVAC works.

All equipment supplied under this section shall be brand-new, factory manufactured and
factory assembled and complete in all respects. The type, characteristics, capacity rating,
component sections of all equipment shall be as scheduled in the drawings.

All equipment furnished by the Contractor shall include vibration isolation mounting, pads,
anchors bolts frames or any other mounting or supporting accessories.

All power driven equipment shall include motor drives, and motor foundation bases and
accessories.

2.2 VARIABLE REFRIGERANT FLOW (VRF) SYSTEM

2.2.1 GENERAL

The Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) System shall be R410A refrigerant based Multi Split
Unit System with high C.O.P. The systems shall comprise of one or a number of outdoor units
connected via interconnecting refrigeration pipe work to multiple indoor units using simple Y,
T or Header type branch pipe connectors. Y Connectors (as per drawings/manufacturer’s
recommendations) shall be supplied with A/C units. The systems shall be complete with all
the necessary electronic controls board and control wiring to maintain the design room
conditions without external controller.

2.2.2 OUTDOOR UNITS

The units shall be air-cooled type incorporating heat exchanger coils manufactured from
copper tubes and aluminum fins, factory treated to reduce the effect of atmospheric corrosion.
The unit casing shall be manufactured from (70µ) polyester powder coated baked enamel
finish sheet steel in order to have a high corrosion resistance and to protect against salt laden
environment close to where the units may be installed. The color shall be manufacturer’s
standard. The air outlet grilles shall have plastic coated guards.

All outdoor units are to be permanently marked with an identification number. The removable
access panels are also to be marked with the same number.

The outdoor units are to be Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) inverter based centralized
combination of Multiple Outdoor Units of capacities given in schedules.

The outdoor units shall have inverter driven compressors electronically controlled and
capable of changing speed linearly to follow the variation in cooling and heating
requirements.

The capacity control of the outdoor units will be inverter controlled and shall be determined
electronically by sensing operational temperatures, pressures and ambient temperature and
monitoring requirements for the indoor units.

The units shall be complete with electronic expansion valve(s), oil separator(s), high pressure
switches, fan motor safety devices, over current relay, inverter overload protection, fuses,
necessary solenoid valves, refrigerant shutoff valves, re-cycling guard timer and all necessary
sensors for a safe and trouble free operation.

The access to the internal components for maintenance purposes shall be by removable
panels.

It shall be possible to connect up to 64 indoor units, capacity permitting, to one modular


outdoor unit.

The outdoor unit shall have full capacity control to meet the load fluctuation up to 130% and
indoor unit individual control.

The fan will be capable of overcoming a minimum of 58 Pascal of external static pressure.

The control PCB, the power and control wiring terminals shall be provided in an electrical
box attached to the front of the unit.

2.2.3 CONTROLS FOR OUTDOOR UNITS

The units shall be equipped with Auto Restart function, which allows the unit to start in the
same mode prior to the power failure.

Digital thermostat: Units shall be controlled with user friendly ,wall mounted microprocessor
based LCD, wired remote controller. The wired remote controller shall be slim having atleast
following features.

 24 hour ON / OFF timer in 1 hour interval.

 Room temperature display.
 Weekly programming.
 Child lock function.
 3 speed fan control.
 Linear control of E.S.P/Airflow.

Computerized control shall be used to maintain a correct room temperature either at the fan
coil or from a sensor in the remote controller. The system shall be equipped with a self-
diagnostic feature for easy service and maintenance. The LCD remote controller shall be able
to control up to 16 indoor units as a group. It shall also be possible to select cooling, heating,
fan only or automatic change over mode for heat recovery systems.

PC Based Central Controller

A multi functional centralized Controller shall be supplied if mentioned in BOQ.

It will provide the following features:

Start/stop operation, set point control, cool/heat mode selection, air volume setting, air flow
direction setting and enabling/disabling operation of the remote.

Monitoring of operation status of the indoor units and error code of the group or the zone.

Comprehensive timer function to start/stop the air conditioning systems. This can be set for
year, month, day of week, hour and minute. This will enable normal day-to-day time clock
functions as well as yearly holiday set up.

The controller shall be installed on single PC and shall compatible with bac-net or remote
control through internet and can be wired by a non-polar 2-wire transmission cable to a
distance of 200m away from the outdoor with capability to control units up to group of max.
16 Outdoor and 4200 indoor.

2.3 INDOOR UNITS

The following type of indoor units can be used for this type of system;

2.3.1 Concealed Ducted Unit

The unit casing shall be manufactured from galvanized steel plate and shall be fully insulated.
Facility shall be provided for duct connection for introduction of the fresh air in the unit and
branch ductwork from the unit. The return air to the unit shall be through the bottom/back of
the unit as per manufacturer’s standard.

The heat exchanger coils will be manufactured from copper tubes and aluminum fins. It shall
have electronic expansion valve to control refrigerant flow rate in response to the load

variation in the conditioned space. The expansion valve shall be controlled by an integral
computerized control system to maintain correct room temperature.

The condensate shall be drained from the unit using thermally insulated copper tube and run
directly to the foul water drain as indicated.

When using the bottom return air configuration the air filters shall be incorporated within the
unit and shall be mould resistant washable resin net type.

When using the rear return air configuration a separate filter frame with 25 mm glass fibre
throwaway type filter shall be provided for on site installation. A blanking plate shall be
provided for the bottom opening. This blanking plate must be removable for access to the
internal components of the unit.

2.3.2 Concealed Ducted Fresh Air Handling Unit

The unit casing shall be manufactured from galvanized steel plate and shall be fully insulated.
Facility shall be provided for duct connection for introduction of the fresh air in the unit and
branch ductwork from the unit.

The heat exchanger coils will be manufactured from copper tubes and aluminum fins. It shall
have electronic expansion valve to control refrigerant flow rate in response to the load
variation in the conditioned space. The expansion valve shall be controlled by an integral
computerized control system to maintain correct room temperature.

The condensate shall be drained from the unit using thermally insulated copper tube and run
directly to the foul water drain as indicated.

When using the bottom return air configuration the air filters shall be incorporated within the
unit and shall be mould resistant washable resin net type.

2.3.3 Controls For Indoor Units

3.0 COMMISSIONING AND PERFORMANCE TESTS

The air-conditioning system described in this specification and shown on the


drawings shall be commissioned. A program for the commissioning, and any
specified tests, shall be prepared and this shall be incorporated in the contract
program following approval by the Engineer.

Commissioning shall mean, the advancement of all the building services system, from
the state of static completion to full working order, adjusted to the design
requirements, which are given.

The cost of providing all instruments and associated equipment whether of a


temporary and/or permanent nature, attendance of any specialists, and for the
provision of test points required for; the commissioning; and testing, shall be included
in the tender. A recent calibration certificate for each instrument shall be available for
inspection.

3.0 EXECUTION

The Contractor shall make shop drawings of equipment and systems on the basis of
manufacturer certified dimensions and manufacturer recommendation for installation Shop
drawings and other details shall be submitted to the Consultant for approval before
installation.

Exact dimensions and locations of equipment and allied connections shall be submitted to the
Consultant for approval, otherwise any changes directed after installation shall be made by
the Contractor without any additional cost to the Employer.
