MANOR HOSPITAL WARD UPGRADE AND RE-CONFIGURATION PROGRAMME

The Board are requested to note the outcome of the physical aspects of the Manor Hospital
ward upgrade and re-configuration project and other service re-locations.

Summary of the Key Points:

1. The Board will be aware of the significant work, due for completion on Friday 28th
April 2006, in respect of the Manor Hospital ward upgrade and re-configuration
project.
2. There has been an extensive programme of upgrading work to a number of Wards in
West Wing and the whole of South Wing during the last financial year, wards
upgraded include:
• Osprey
• Christopher Robin
• Willow
• Falcon (to form the new Acute Stroke Unit)
• Maple
• Former MAU (new name Poplar Ward)
• Kingfisher & Flamingo (to form the new Integrated Assessment Unit)
• Merlin (to form the new High Dependency Unit)

The total capital cost of these works was £895k

3. The ward upgrading schemes have been completed to facilitate the ward re-
configuration project. On completion of the project the Trust will have relocated a total
of 20 wards since October 2005. There has been a tremendous effort from a great
many clinical and non-clinical staff and this has been achieved despite enormous bed
pressures.
4. Attached to this summary report is:
a) Diagrams showing the location, name and function of West Wing and South Wing
Wards
b) A schedule of the new Wards including telephone numbers, functions and
Consultants
5. The conclusion of the project results in the transfer of all acute Elderly Care and
Stroke Rehabilitation services from Goscote to the Manor Hospital site.

Other Services Relocating


In addition to the Ward re-configuration project a number of other Trust services are re-
locating during April/May 2006:

Diabetes – the main Department moved to the new Walsall Diabetes Centre (Pleck
Road ‘HSDU’ site) on 25th April 2006, new clinics to commence on 3rd May 2006.

Sexual Health – the current GUM Department (rear of Outpatients) moves to the new
Sexual Health Unit (located off Pleck Road as above) on 8th May 2006.

Occupational Health – the Occupational Health Department move to a new location in


the ground floor of East Wing (to the rear of Paediatric Outpatients). The office/admin
functions move to 68 Ida Road. The Department moves 27/28th April and services will re-
open on 2nd May 2006.

Major risks and how they will be managed:

1. Staff awareness of new ward locations and contact details – to be managed via a major
communications exercise utilising email, Chief Execs Update, Team Brief etc.

2. Patient/Visitor awareness – information leaflets made available in main receptions with


information boards highlighting new locations

All capital resources were contained within the 2005/06 capital programme
