Happy 139th Anniversary, Montgomery Baptists!
Much has happened in these 202 years of Montgomery Baptists
The year was 1881. Much was taking place in bringing the gospel to the River Region. And until Jesus comes,
American history: much will still happen. We are Great Commission people. Whether it
President James Garfield was assassinated, is downtown, around town, or out of town, may we continue to say
marking the second U.S. president in less than with one voice to the saved and lost, “Jesus Saves, Jesus Saves!” Let
twenty years that met their fate at a gunman's us rededicate ourselves to that task as we embark on new ventures at

Billy the Kid was shot and killed in New Mexico, and the

Chief Sitting Bull and the Sioux nation surrendered to U.S. troops
at Fort Sumter.
The 5th hurricane of the year hit Florida and South Carolina,
killing over seven hundred people.

Madison Square Garden.

time. Technically, we were first called the Alabama Baptist
Association (formed in 1819). Therefore, we are older than the Taylor Road Baptist
Alabama Baptist Convention (202 years old). Those early years are 1685 Taylor Road—Fellowship Suite

 The Antioch Baptist Church was one of three churches
admitted to the Alabama Baptist Association in 1819. Now a
member of the National Baptist Convention, the congregation still
meets in the same community called Pike Road (738 Gibbs Rd,
Pike Rd, AL 36064).
 African American Missionary Caesar Blackwell was
commissioned by our association to preach and baptize converts
in the slave community and preach to both black and white
people. Like African American George Liele becoming our first
Baptist international missionary, it is thought that Rev. Blackwell
was the first Baptist domestic missionary, and he came from our
association!
