Lesson 1: The Art processes, elements and principles still apply even with the use
of new technologies

A. Arts Processes – The process of combining vision, creativity , intuition , and


collaboration balanced with craft, technique, accountability , discipline and use of
time and resources. The following are the different art processes.

1. Drawing – The process of portraying an object , scene,or form of


decorative or symbolic meaning through lines, shapes, values and
texture in one or more colors.

2. Painting – An artist creates a painting by arranging the art elements on a


flat surface in ways that are sometimes, visually appealing , sometimes
shocking or thought provoking. There are different types of paint: in oil,
water color , acrylic , and tempera to name a few. Paint is made up of
three ingredients, pigment, binder and solvent. The pigment is finely
groud powder that gives paint its color. Binder is a liquid that holds
together that grains of pigment in a form that can be spread over a
surface. Solvent is the material used to thin the binder.

3. Printmaking – It is the art process that involves making prints. There are
four main processes of print making. Relief printing, intaglio,
lithography, and screen printing.

4. Photography - It is a technique of capturing optical image on light


sensitive surfaces

5. Video and Digital Media - Any kind of materials that can be used ,
processes, and transformed by the computer system.

6. Sculpture – It is the art of making two or three dimensional


representative or abstract form, especially by carving stone or wood or
by casting metal or plaster
.

B. Elements of Arts – These are commonly used group of aspect of a work of arts
used in teaching and analysis. Combined with the Principle of Arts. Also known as
the building block of art work. The following are the different elements of arts.

1. Line – It is most defined as a amark that soans a distance between two


points for a path ofa mobbing point , taking any form along th way.

2. Form – It may be created by forming of two or more shapes or as three


dimensional shape ( cube, pyramid, sphere , etc).It may be enhanced
by tone, texture and color. It is considered as three- dimensional
showing height , width and depth. Examples of these are sculpture ,
theatre , play and figurines.

3. Texture – It is the quality of a surface or the way any work of art is
represented .Lines and shading can be used to create different texture
as well.

4. Shape – It pertain to the use of areas in two dimensional spaces that


can be defined by edges, setting one flat specific space apart from
another. They can be geometric ( e.g. square, circle, triangle ,hexagon ,
etc. )

5. Space – It is the area provided for a particular purpose . It may have


two dimensions ( length and width ) , such as floor , or it may have
three dimensions ( length, width and height)

6. Color – It pertains to the use of hue in artwork and design. Color may
defined as primary colors( red,blue, yellow). Combination of the
primary colors can create secondary colors ( green, orange and violet).
Futher combination of primary and secondary colors creates tertiary
colors and more hues.

C. Principles of Arts – It is the criteria which are used to explain how the visual
elements are arranged in work of art. These principles are possibly the closest
thing we have to a set of objective criteria for analyzing and judging art.

1. Harmony – The combination of similarities . Visual harmony is achived


when art elements within the work of art blend together. On pleasant ,
comprehensive, and unified whole

2. Balance – This refers to the way in which visual weight is distributed


throughout a composition.

3. Rhythm - It refers to the visual repetition within a work of art/


Repeating visual elements can create visual energy and interest. It can
be also be referred to as pattern. Repeating certain lines, or shapes in
specific areas. Rhythm can be used to create texture and variety within
a work of art.

4. Variety – It is a way of combining elements in involved way to create


intricate and complicated relationships. It is accomplished by using
different lines, shapes, and colors within an artwork to make key areas
stand out.

5. Movement – Refers to the designs direct our eyes when looking at it.
It does not refer to a depiction of movement within an art work .
Because of this movement can be referred to as visual movement.

6. Emphasis- It refers to the need of an artist to create a focal point


within a composition.

7. Proportion – It is concerned with the relationship of certain elements


for the whole and to each other.

Lesson 2: The elements and principles applied in commercial art.

Coomercial Arts – It is the imagery created for advertising or marketing purposes.


Commercial Artist create arts used to sell and advertise products. One of the sample
creation of commercial artist is making logos.

Logo is a symbols made up of text and images that help us identify the brands we
like. A good logo is a cornerstone of your brand . It helps customers understand
what you do , who you are and what you value.

Know the three basic types of logo.

1. Symbolic – It conveys . literal or abstract representation of product or


company. It is instantly recognizable and memorable. Anybody who sees
these symbols automatically identifies the product.

2. Logo Type – It is commonly used as “word mark” and is characterized by


stylized fonts. This type of logo is legible and easy to recognize due to
variations of types, shapes and styles of the fonts. Unlike symbolic logo,
this logo simple words or acronyms to represent the product or
company. How many logotypes are familiar to you.

3. Combination Marks – These are graphics using both text and symbols
to identify the product being sold. It provides clarity about the product
or enterprise.

Microsoft Paint –It is a simple graphics editing program that is included with
MicrosoftWindows.

How to select a drawing tool?


In the toolbox
• Using the mouse, point to the tool which is needed
• Click on the tool
To draw using the selected tool, follow the instructions below:
• Move the cursor to the place you want to start
• Press and hold down the mouse button
• Drag the cursor around the drawing area
• When you are satisfied with the shape of the drawing, release the mouse

Activity 2: Select the Eraser Tool


Use the Eraser tool to modify Figure 1.3 so that it looks like Figure 1.4 below.

The same procedures can be used to draw rectangles, circles, squares and so
on. If everany changes need to be made on the diagrams drawn, the Eraser
tool can be used to do so.

How to close MS PAINT?


Steps to Follow:
• Click on CLOSE
• Click No in the Save as dialog box

Lesson 5: Creates personal or class logo as visual representation that can be used as
a product, brand, or trademark

Now that you have an idea in logo , finalize your own personal logo by following the
following steps:

1. Draw a simple logo that is easy to understand .


2. Apply one to three colors
3. Add text that is easy to read and understand .
4. Be creative

Using MS paint software, create your own logo digitally. Print your design and paste
on the box.

Lesson 6 : Explains ideas about the logo

Look at the sample image below. Are you familiar with this symbol? This is called
logo. This is the new logo of Deped Tarlac Province.

1. The map of Tarlac - It represents all the municipalities of Tarlac Province


2. The Laurel leaves- It symbolizes victory , success and triumpg.
3. The three blue stars – They represent the three congressional districts. The
blue symbolizes peace and harmony.
4. The open book – It signifies our quest for excellence ,quality education, and
likewise , It is the symbol for learning and knowledge.
5. The four people – They are representation of the original ethnic groups
settlers in the province, the Pangasinense, the Kaampangan, the Ilocano and
the Aetas.
6. The lighted torch with four flames – They represent the core values of
Depetment of Education, MakaDiyos, Makatao, Makakalikasan at
Makabansa.
7. The face in the flame – It represents Education stakeholders giving direction
towards human development.

.Lesson 7 : The elements and principles applied in comic art.

Comics – It is a sequence of drawings arranged in interrelated panels to display


brief , funny or narrative stories, with text balloon and captions. The following are
the things to remember in making comics

1.  Work out your story first..Ask yourself:

a. What do I want to say?

b. Is there a point I want to make?

c. What is required to achieve my goal?

d. What words; what pictures?

e. What is going to happen in each frame?

2. Visualize your characters and practice drawing them. Ask yourself:

a. Is your character a know-it-all?

b. Do these characters have unique characteristics—a wild hairstyle or funny


nose or purple hair?

c. Is your character happy, sad, confused, excited, angry, furious, or in love?

d. What is your character wearing?

3. Visualize your setting and practice drawing it. 

a. Does your story take place in a park, on school grounds, or in a classroom?


b.Is there an important object in your story like a broken-down car or a trash
pile? o Do you want to give this object a personality? For example, turn the
headlights of a car into eyes and have the m react to what the characters are
saying.

4. Decide what colors to use beforehand.  Adding color to your characters will bring


them more fully to life.

a. How can my characters benefit from my color choices?

b. Should I color the environment as it’s normally seen (blue sky, green grass) or do I
want to use unexpected colors to help create a mood?

 5. Draw a rough sketch of your comic strip and share it with others to see if  
it conveys the message you want.  

6. Steps for putting it all together.  

Lesson 8 : Applies concepts on the steps/procedures in cartoon character making

Making comic strips requires step by step procedures. Follow these guides you are
preparing for your new form of arts.

Think of a story you want to put into a comic series. Use a three panel comic
strip.

Step 1. Using the brush tool

Draw wide curved line for the chicken’s torso. MS Paint offers different
brush tools.

Step 2. Add the tail and work your way to the body.

Step 3. Using the simple strokes add the tail and just brush towards the center to
build up the chicken’s body , as well as the head . To do this , add an upside down u
for the head . With simple and short strokes , your way from the U to the body.

As a young artist, you can create your own unique cartoon characters. Just follow
the simple steps below.
