Responsible for leading the development and validation of powertrain performance in all

International Truck and Engine Corporation vehicle applications.


At CNH I was responsible for the development and validation of Powertrains, Drivetrains,
Fuel, Aftertreatment, Cooling (Circulation, Fan, Package, Hood) Intake, Turbocharger,
Exhaust, Lubrication, Charging

This position will also work with application engineers, sales people and customers to ensure
vehicle orders are specified correctly to meet the customer’s needs and expectations.

Thorough understanding of powertrain performance development and product assurance


techniques for truck and bus applications is required.

III/IV (4.8, 7.2L)

Candidates must possess an understanding of automotive powertrain functionality, system


interactions, and how they affect the customer’s ability to use the vehicle as a tool in their
business.

The primary duties of this position includes the following activities:
 
1. Work with engine and transmission calibrators. Use computer based tools to
gather and analyze data.
CalDesk, CANalyzer, ServiceMaxx, winKW2000/winUDS

2. Work with the customer support organization to quickly resolve issues in the field.
3. Direct the use of powertrain electronic features with the rest of the vehicle
electrical components.
4. Develop test plans with customer approval and involvement; execute test plans
and communicate results to appropriate stakeholders in the corporation.
5. Assist direct supervisors in the development of functional vehicle level
requirement documentation for performance/driveability/fuel economy when
requested.
6. Suggest improvements to products and processes as regards
performance/driveability/fuel economy based on information gleaned from field
experience. Support knowledge based engineering activities so that such
improvement potential is documented and well communicated.
7. Communicate effectively with the sales organization so that it becomes aware of
any key issues discovered in the field and updated on improvements made to the
product resulting from product validation’s involvement.
 

 

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Technology; or Associate's Degree in Engineering
or Technology with 10 years of engineering product development experience in an
automotive/truck environment
 


At least 4 years project management experience in engineering product development
 


At least 4 years experience leading others in engineer/design activities
 


At least 5 years experience in automotive product development in one or more
component areas (i.e. Interiors, Body-in-White, Powertrain, Brakes, hardware/Software,
etc.)
Additional Requirements:
 Ability to travel 30%
 BSME/BSMET
 At least 5 years experience developing, designing, and/or testing powertrain systems
 At least 2 years of experience developing and/or validating powertrain performance
attributes

products from concept to manufacturing
 Ability to plan, design and complete multiple projects
 Thorough knowledge of product development process
 Operational understanding of diesel engine systems, medium and heavy duty
truck driveline systems and interactions between these systems from a  vehicle
performance/driveability/fuel economy viewpoint.  
 Knowledge of quality tools and their proper use
 Experience with manufacturing processes
 Strong communication and interpersonal skills, highly motivated, organized and self-
disciplined
 Ability to work in a team environment and with customers/suppliers
 Computer utilization (i.e. project management, word processing, spreadsheets, graphics,
databases)
 A CDL ( or willingness to obtain ) and experience driving medium/heavy duty vehicles
 A good understanding of medium/heavy duty truck industry standard serial data link
protocols (SAE J1939, SAE J1587, SAE J2284)
 Extensive experience with using PC based service tools for troubleshooting powertrain
control systems
 Experience using vehicle network analysis tools
