User Configured Backup

This code is intended to help minimize data loss by taking routine Backups automatically.

In order to activate this feature, one needs to adhere to the following steps:

1. Attach the file User Configured Backup.TDL and execute Tally.ERP 9

Note: For further information on downloading and attaching TDL to Tally.ERP9, please
refer the document Steps to enable TDL in the same section/page at the beginning.

2. By default, Backup is configured to execute automatically while Tally.ERP9


Application shuts down.

3. To alter the above preset configuration, traverse through F12: Configure > User
Configured Backup from the Gateway of Tally or Company Info. Menu,

4. On selecting Item Auto Backup, the following configuration window appears:

a. Enable Automatic Backup Feature is recommended to be enabled.


Disabling this feature will not ensure automatic backups. This option is
enabled by default.

b. Destination Path is the folder name where the backup is to be taken. By


default, the path is set to C:\TallyDataBackup. User can alter the same to any
other directory of his choice. Sub-Folders indicating Date and Time of
Backup are created within and a Backup File named TBK900.001 is placed
within.

For example,

C:\TallyDataBackup\30-Jun-2010\1440

where 30-Jun-2010 is the date on which Backup is taken and 1440 represents
the time at which backup is done.

c. Backup on Event indicates a suitable event when the backup must be done:

One can configure to take the backup on occurrence of any of the following
events:

• Close Company – This will schedule the backup while shutting or


closing a company
• Load Company – This will schedule the backup while selecting or
loading a company

• Tally Application End – This will schedule the backup while quitting
from the Tally.ERP 9 application.
• Tally Application Start – This will schedule the backup while starting
the Tally.ERP 9 application.

The event Tally Application End is set by default.

d. Backup Data allows the user to configure the companies for the automatic
backup

The following options are allowed:

• All Companies – This enables automatic backup for all companies within
current data path configured prior to automatic backup.
• Current Company – This enables automatic backup for the current
company. This option will be available only if the event selected is either
Load Company or Close Company.
• Selected Companies – Selection of this item pops up a table of companies
to be backed up. It enables automatic backup only for companies selected
in the subsequent list as shown.

The option All Companies is set by default.

e. Confirmation from user is enabled to seek user’s confirmation before
backing up the companies. In case of the event, Tally Application End, user
confirmation is not allowed.

Post alteration of the Auto Backup configuration, subsequent occurrence of the


configured event triggers the Automatic Backup feature and the configured
companies are backed up automatically.

In the event of Data loss due to any reason, one may choose to restore the most recent
backup which is automatically set in the Source Path.
