ESOL is an acronym for      


 Programs in ESOL teach basic
vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and many of the necessary idiomatic phrases to people with a
first language other than English. Typically, this sort of English (ESOL in the United Kingdom, Ireland
and New Zealand) is learned to function in the new host country, e.g. within the school system (if a
child), to find and hold down a job (if an adult), to perform the necessities of daily life. It helps
newcomers settle into their adopted country, sometimes as part of an explicit citizenship program.

  

People enrol in ESOL programs for a variety of reasons. Improved English skills may lead them to:

u job opportunities
u talk to doctors and teachers
u understand the laws and customs of the UK
u do a course and get a qualification
u help your child with homework
u pass the Life in the UK test and become a British citizen
u international travel options
u further academic pursuits.

ESOL instructors may incorporate a variety of teaching methods. Methods generally include reading
and writing, listening comprehension and speaking activities.

£ou take the 'Life in the UK' test if you are applying to be a British citizen and your level of English is
ESOL Entry 3 or above.

If your level of English is lower than ESOL Entry 3 and you wish to apply for naturalisation, you will
need to attend combined English language (ESOL) and citizenship classes instead.

(English for Speakers of Other Languages) has been designed for adult (16+) speakers who are
living or trying to settle in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and whose home language is  
English. The 
learners may include refugees or asylum seekers, migrant workers, people from
settled communities, and partners or spouses of people who are settled in this country for a number
of year/s. It is expected that the learners͛ educational and employment backgrounds will be diverse,
as well as their aspirations, literacy levels and language learning skills.

There are courses at different levels so you will be able to start at the right level for you.

ESOL courses are from entry levels up to higher level.

Enrolment to the course can be done either by filling in the online application form or by visiting the
college. Information or bookings can also be made through phone.

the home office as a requirement to gain Citizenship.

Duration of the course totally relies on the current English knowledge possessed by the individual.
