Glass Sheets (Automatic Plant)

Glass have various applications. It is used in windows, structural building blocks, chemical reaction

equipments, pumps and pipings, vacuum tube, light bulbs, containers, optical equipment. It is mostly used

in building construction photo frames, automobiles, railways etc. Safety glass is consumed almost 75 % of

the output, which is a very useful product nowadays. Demand of sheet glass is increasing tremendously.

The safety glass has export market and is used mostly in the transport industry. There is bright scope for

new units to install additional capacity. There is a good scope of manufacturing sheet glass and selling it

with good margin.

Glass Industry
The Indian glass industry has come a long way since its inception in the early 19th century. This well

developed industry is large enough to cover virtually all the major facet of glass making. The glass industry

in our country has accumulated capacity for in excess of domestic needs. It has, therefore, vast potential

for exports which are pegged at Rs.3 billion a year at present. There is need to push the export of value

added glass products. The sheet glass units are labour intensive. The float units are technology intensive

and employ only the highly skilled personnel. Till recently, the country produced only sheet and rolled glass

had to import float glass. Glass manufacturing units are organised into public limited, private limited and

other small units of small entrepreneurs. Any entrepreneur can well venture in this field. The growth rate of

the industry was more than 10 percent. You can come in this project.

Hot And Cold Fusion Of Glass

Glasses are basically silicate borate compounds of different alkaki metal oxide. There are two types of

glass. 1. Normal glass which is used for the production of normal glass articles like sheet glass, normal

bottle, tube etc. 2.Special type of glass which may be coloured or non coloured which will be used for the

preparation of glass screen, glass tiles special type wash basin, optical composition required for the

products of special type glass and special type furnace require for the production.
GLASS BOTTLES FOR COSMETICS
Glass is so much a part of our daily life that we cannot imagine living without it. Glassware is used both by

the consumer as well as by the Government and industry. The primary aim of packaging is to protect the

product from air, light, heat, cold, moisture dust, dirt etc.

GLASS BEADS MANUFACTURING

A unified system of classifying glasses used in the production of imitation jewellery has been produced.

Glass bead is a handicraft item produced by skilled artisans out of block glass or clourful glass tubes rods.

The glass beads made with sample machines and tools are used to make artificial jewellery and is used to

decorate garments also. There is a growing demand for glass beads in the country. In India glass beads are

being manufactured at Pundilpur (Aligarh) and Banaras.

Toughened Glass
Toughened glass is a type of soda-lime-silica glass which has been mechanically strengthens by a thermal

process in which a layer of compression has been introduced at the surface. Its main usage is in

automotive, architectural, photo etc. Toughened glass cannot be supplementary worked by cutting, drilling

etc., as this would result in the sudden shattering of the product. The main raw material for the making of

toughened glass is flat glass sheets.

Toughened Glass (Tempered Glass)

Toughened or tempered glass is glass that has been processed by controlled thermal or chemical

treatments to increase its strength compared with normal glass. It will usually shatter into small fragments,

rather than sharp shards, when broken. Toughened glass is strong, has enhanced thermal resistance, and

breaks into small cuboid fragments rather than irregular shards of glass and therefore is less likely to cause

injury. Toughened glass is used when strength, thermal resistance and safety are important considerations.
The most commonly encountered tempered glass is that used for side and rear windows in automobiles,

used for its characteristic of shattering into small cubes rather than large shards. Tempered glass is also

used in buildings for unframed assemblies (such as frameless doors), structurally-loaded applications, and

any other application that would become dangerous in the event of a human impact. More recently,

toughened glass is used in cell phones due to its scratch-resistant properties.

FLOAT GLASS (AUTOMATIC PLANT)

Glass is one of man’s most valuable and versatile materials. The term float glass pertains to all glasses

produced in a flat form. It is well known fact all over the world that the best quality glass can produce with

the help of float glass technology. Glass has varied applications. It is used in windows, structural building

blocks, chemical reaction equipments, pumps, piping, vacuum tubes, light bulbs and containers etc. Except

these uses, glass can be made for particular use by changing minutely in composition to make things like

optical glass, photosensitive glass, enamel glass, ceramic glass etc. Float glass is used for glazing wherever

transparency is required in building. It is also a raw material for making safety building primarily for

making safety glass, for automotive and other transportation uses. Mirrors and otherwise finished or

processed float glass for furniture or interior decorating is also made from it. It is mostly used in building

construction, photo frames, automobiles, railways etc. because it is used as a raw material for the

manufacturing of safety glass, which is a very consumable product now a days, so its use is increasing day

by day. It is expected that the demand of float glass will increase tremendously.

GLASS SHEET
Glass is one of man's most valuable and versatile materials. About 700 different compositions are in

thousands use. These are fabricated into tens of thousands of different articles that have combinations of

properties for about a thousand essentially different uses. The term float glass pertains to all glasses
produced in a flat form, regardless of the method of manufacture. Over one third of flat glass produced in

Germany is not used in its original form, but finished into other products such as automotive safety glass

mirrors. By far the greatest amount of flat glass consists of soda lime glass. The main user segments of

float glass are the automobiles and construction industries. The demand for float glass is, therefore, very

much correlated to the growth in these industries. It is well known fact all over the world that the best

quality glass can be produced with the help of the float glass technology. There are no waves and distortion

in the sheet glass manufacturing with the help of float glass technology, is the final product is free of all

defects. So far in our country sheet glass is being manufactured with the help of four coult and PPG (pits

burgh process) glass technologies. More or less the waves and distortions invariably remain in the sheet

glass manufactured with the help of these technologies. The glass industry represents a number of

definable product segments. These are flat glass including float glass, glass containers and hollowware,

vacuum glass, domestic and industrial glassware, crystal glass, fiberglass, glass wool, TV picture tube glass

shells, and laboratory glass. Most of the glass products have both industrial and consumer usages.. Apart

from a very large number of small players in the glass industry, there are some 76 large and medium-sized

producers. Of these, 44 produce containers and hollowware with a capacity of 1.5 million tones and

registered a production of 1.35 million tonnes. Market for flat glass has always been driven by the demand

for building glass and automotive glass, which in turn depend on economic growth. With the economy

showing signs of revival, demand for glass will once again be back in double digits in the coming years.

Thus, this sector has a good market and export potential for new entrants. Few Indian Major Players are as

Glass, as a substance, plays an essential role in science and industry. Their chemical, physical,
and in particular optical properties make them suitable for applications such as flat glass,
container glass, optics and optoelectronics material, laboratory equipment, thermal insulator
(glass wool), reinforcement materials (glass-reinforced plastic, glass fiber reinforced concrete),
and glass art (art glass, studio glass).

From the 19th century, various types of fancy glass started to become significant branches of the
decorative arts. Cameo glass was revived for the first time since the Romans, initially mostly
used for pieces in a neo-classical style. The Art Nouveau movement in particular made great use
of glass, with René Lalique, Émile Gallé, and Daum of Nancy important names in the first
French wave of the movement, producing colored vases and similar pieces, often in cameo glass,
and also using lustre techniques. Louis Comfort Tiffany in America specialized in secular stained
glass, mostly of plant subjects, both in panels and his famous lamps. From the 20th century,
some glass artists began to class themselves as in effect sculptors working in glass, and as part of
the fine arts.

Several of the most common techniques for producing glass art include: blowing, kiln-casting,
fusing, slumping, pate-de-verre, flame-working, hot-sculpting and cold-working. Objects made
out of glass include not only traditional objects such as vessels (bowls, vases, bottles, and other
containers), paperweights, marbles, beads, but an endless range of sculpture and installation art
as well. Colored glass is often used, though sometimes the glass is painted, innumerable
examples exist of the use of stained glass.

Apart from historical collections in general museums, modern works of art in glass can be seen
in a variety of museums, including the Chrysler Museum, the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, the
Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Toledo Museum of Art, and Corning Museum of Glass, in
Corning, NY, which houses the world's largest collection of glass art and history, with more than
45,000 objects in its collection.[46]

The Harvard Museum of Natural History has a collection of extremely detailed models of
flowers made of painted glass. These were lampworked by Leopold Blaschka and his son
Rudolph, who never revealed the method he used to make them. The Blaschka Glass Flowers are
still an inspiration to glassblowers today.[47]

US demand to grow 5% annually through 2012. US demand for advanced flat glass is expected to grow five
percent annually, reaching $7.2 billion by 2012. This reflects the increasing acceptance and market
penetration of a variety of advanced flat glass products, including laminated glass used in motor vehicle
sidelites and sunroofs, and as antiburglary or ballistic glass; smart glass for solar control applications; self-
leaning glass; and heads-up display glass. For further information kindly visit:

1. Types of Glass & its Uses!

TYPES OF GLASS & ITS USES

1. SODA GLASS :
it is the cheapest & most common glass. it is prepared by fusing soda ash, sand , limestone. it is also
called soft glass. it fuses at comparatively low temperatures. the major disadvantage of using this glass is
that it is brittle & breaks easily. it cracks when subjected to sudden changes of temperature . soda glass
is used for the manufacture of window glass, mirrors, common glassware etc. it is easily attacked by
chemcials.

2. HARD GLASS :
it is obtained by fusing potassium carbonate & limestone . it is used for making hard glass apparatus. it is
more resistant to the action of acids.

3. LEAD CRYSTAL GLASS :

it is made from potassium carbonate, lead oxide & sand. lead glass has high refractive index. it,
therefore, sparkles & is used for making expensive glass ware. the surface of lead glass objects is often
cut into decorative patterns to reflect light. cut glass show extraordinary sparkle.

4. PYREX GLASS :
it is made by fusing a mixture od sand, lime, borax (Na2B4O7.10H2O) & alkali carbonates. it has good
chemical laboratory apparatus, ampoules, pharmaceutical containers, et. in home, it is familiar with oven
ware.

5. OPTICAL GLASS :
it is specially made so as to be free of strains & defects. it is used for making lenses for spectacles,
microscopes, cameras, telescopes & other optical instruments.

6. PHOTOCHROMIC GLASS :
it is a special variety of glass that temporarily darkens when exposed to bright light. it is, therefore, very
useful as a sun-shield. this automatic darking property of photochromatic glass is because of the
presence of silver bromide.

7. SAFETY GLASS :
it is prepared by placing a layer of transparent plastic between the two layers of glass by means of
suitable adhesive. the 3 layers are joined together by the action of heat & pressure. the glass does not
break easily under ordinary impact, & that is why is is known as safety glass. it is used in making wind
screens of aeroplanes, automobiles, bulletproof glass etc.

8. GLASS FIBRES :
it is form of fibres, has varied applications in most of the industries . glass wool is a bundle of loose glass
fibres, which is an excellant heat insulator. it is used as insulating material in refrigerators, ovens
etc.another important class of glass fibre is optical fibres which are extensively used in
telecommunication, surgical operation etc. great progress has been made in making optical fibres, which
can guide light, & thus transmit images round corners. the fibres are used in endoscopy to examine the
internal human organs. they are also made in telecommunications & are much more efficient than copper
cables.

9. COLOURED GLASS :
these are obtained by adding certain colouring material, such as metallic oxides, to the molten mass.
different additions may produce differenct coloured glasses.

Main properties of glass
These are the main characteristics of glass:

- Solid and hard material

- Disordered and amorphous structure

- Fragile and easily breakable into sharp pieces

- Transparent to visible light

- Inert and biologically inactive material.

- Glass is 100% recyclable and one of the safest packaging materials due to its
composition and properties

Glass is used for architecture application, illumination, electrical transmission,

instruments for scientific research, optical instruments, domestic tools and even
textiles. Glass does not deteriorate, corrode, stain or fade and therefore is one
of the safest packaging materials.

These properties can be modified and changed by adding other compounds or

heat treatment.
Recently developed forms of glass include:

- Safety glass, constructed of two pieces of plate glass join by a plastic

to prevent the glass from scattering when broken.

- Fiberglass made from molten glass formed into continuous filaments

that is used for fabrics or electrical insulation
- Foam glass made by trapping gas bubbles in glass to produce a spongy material for
insulating purposes.

Glass is the transparent solid that we see around us on a regular basis. With time, glass has come
to be used in various forms. This brittle object is used on a large scale and has gained certain
importance. As light is visible due to the absence of transition states, the glass appears to be
transparent. In the initial years, glass hardly had any use, today it used for bottles, bulbs, dining
sets, mirrors and also to decorate your homes.

The spectacles that you wear are also made of glass. When you walk through a laboratory you
will find all the containers made out of glass. This is because it helps a person to check certain
levels of chemicals and so on. Your eyewear also has the glass shaped in rectangular or oval
shape. Glass also makes a fantastic tabletop and you can use it as a center or coffee table. Glass
can be manufactured in any shape and can be put in any possible use.
Glass can come in thin or thick sizes. Depending upon the use, one can choose the right shape
and size. To add a stylish look to your home, you can use glass dining table. To make the most of
your dining table, you can set your eyes on some well-crafted glass dining sets. Today even
mirrors are popularly used for decorating homes. Mirrors are made of glass it self. Car and home
windowpanes are also made out of glass. Today, walk into any corporate office and you would
find the entire building made out of glass. For buildings, strong and durable glass is used. These
offices normally use soundproof glass to ensure safety and a peaceful atmosphere at work.

Glass is used in combination with wood to create furniture. Most tabletops and cabinets have this
combination. The glass is resistant to high and low temperatures, which gives it a longer life.
Glass can be used to come up with artistic work as well. You can mould it into tiny animals or
abstracts and decorate your home. The chandeliers that enhance the look of your home are also

need to get in touch with a good dealer who can offer you the best. When purchasing glass, make
sure you go for those that are easy to maintain and taken care of.

Ever since glass was invented, man has added on various new uses for it. While in the past, glass
was only used for making containers to store different solids and liquids, the modernization
phase has brought glass into the forefront and glass is now used to create innumerable items that
not only look good but are also functional.

In the commercial and corporate world, you will find that glass has not only made its entry by
firmly positioning itself in all the shop frontages and doors but has even started replacing the
outer walls of many large and medium corporate companies. Many of these buildings have now
turned into iconic landmarks in many cities all around the world. These glass walls and doors are
constructed in a frameless manner and contain hard-to-see hinges and brackets and thus seem to
be suspended on thin air. Toughened glass doors also adorn such buildings and while some doors
swing open to welcome staff and visitors, others slide open magically as soon as they observe
anyone approaching. The interiors of such buildings also feature glass partitions in plain or tinted
glass, which not only provide privacy but are also easy to clean and maintain. The right size and
positioning of glass and mirrors in any office or store can also make the place look bigger and
roomier than it actually is.

On the home front too, glass has made its presence felt in an increasing number of pleasing
ways. Leadlights are slowly replacing plain glass windows and partitions and therefore
converting any ordinary sheet of glass into a work of colorful art. Glass leadlight doors too are
converting staid entrances to homes and turning them to a warm and intriguing entryways. While
the kitchen has always been the focal point of domestic glassware, the bathroom too is turning
stylish and chic with the incorporation of glass shower screens. These screens not only look
stunning but also help contain the water that is splashed around during a bath thereby increasing
the level of safety. Of course, the humble mirror in the bathroom might not have changed much
over the years, but the size and frames certainly have.
The exterior of the house has also heralded in additional use of glass and you can now get glass
pool fences that will restrict the water to the pool and its immediate surrounding, thus increasing
the safety aspect as well as increasing the visual appeal of your pool. Glass balustrades also
provide the right look to any balcony, handrail, landing or internal stairs. Thus, glass has now
morphed functionality with aesthetic appeal and the right use of glass can save energy and also
look stunning at the same time. The advantage of a clean installation and the option of getting it
repaired and replaced easily is one more point in its favor.

Glass has certainly evolved over the years and almost all finished products now contain glass in
some form or the other. The ability of experts to contort glass into mind-boggling shapes, colors
and sizes and to also impart a factor of safety into them has seen the transparent rise of this
material literally to new heights.

Out of all the materials out there, glass is already used in most of our homes. The use of glass in
home decor is rarely thought of as decorative and is thought to be more utilitarian. Glass can come
in several forms from glazing, to counter tops and decorative walls. Whether you enjoy using glass
to bring in the morning sun, or a hundred other purposes, glass can be overlooked when
customizing home interiors. Here are some ways to let glass brighten your home.
 Reflectivity and light: What’s the number one interior design trick of all times? The
presence of light. Light makes a room feel larger, more comfortable, and more natural. Glass
brings in light naturally to your home and it can be used to obscure, brighten, and enhance
views. Windows that have mullions or expansive glass that takes advantage of picturesque
views, glass is a miracle worker for reflecting light and illuminating surfaces.
 Glass furniture: Tables, chairs, mirrors… the list goes on and on of glass furnishings that
we use daily that we love. Glass table tops in dining rooms and home offices give a
sophisticated and executive styling to your interiors. Pair glass with wood, leather, and metals
for an urban industrial aesthetic or use traditional and ornate lines to bring the materials
together beautifully in your furniture.
 Unique applications: Ever thought of installing a glass counter top in your kitchen, or a
glass wall in your bathroom? Modern home interiors are starting to use glass in unique ways,
than they used to. If you want to add sleek and modern details, add glass to your wet areas
such as kitchens and bathrooms. Consider glass as a divider walls between a master
bedroom area and a master bathroom. Glass block can let light through, and keep ample
privacy at the same time. Try using different glass materials for all rooms in your home.
 Use glass as your exterior material: In early architecture and interiors, glass was solely
used as punched openings in walls to let in light, and to have a visual connection to the
outdoor world. Today, the use of glass in exterior sheathing is popular, especially in high rise
commercial buildings. In your home if you like to be connected with your exterior, use wide
expansive glass and glass furniture interiors to transform the outdoors inside.
 Be creative: There are very few limits with glass. Heat and cold variations are the most
notable features that need to be thought of when using glass in your interiors. There is always
a solution; a thicker pane of glass may need to be used in colder climates, etc… Glass has
been used in minimalist areas to bring a sense of light and airiness to a space. See where it
can brighten up a space in your interiors.

If you want to use glass in small or large quantities, your space will benefit either way. From
reflective glass mosaic tiles in the kitchen backsplash, to glass block stepping stones in your front
entry, glass is here to stay. Depending on your style, grab inspiration from modern architecture and
interior magazines that love to feature homes with expansive glass. Brighten your home with these
tips, and see how glass can give you a whole new way to enjoy your home.

Glass is one of the most useful materials in our daily lives. There is a special relationship

between glass and buildings. Glass is a magical material which has so many different

properties and uses, that it has presented many new possibilities and designs. The types of

glass presently manufactured in India are float glass and sheet glass.

The glass industry in India is worth around Rs 5,500 crore, which has which has shown

good growth in the past few quarters driven by an uptick in demand from user-industries

such as infrastructure, construction, automobiles, food processing, beverages,

pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, among others. The glass industry is diversifying into

interior decoration, furniture, murals and other value additions to keep the show going. The

growth of the industry is dependent on construction and architecture activities. However,

the automobile sector is still a big user of flat glass. The construction sector is the largest

consumer of float glass. Around 60 % of the total production is used by the construction

sector. The glass sector has been growing at 10-12 per cent a year over the past five years.

Real estate is the biggest consumer of flat glass for windows, doors, partitions and a host

of other applications.
Global demand for flat glass will rise 5.5 percent annually through 2012, spurred by a

healthy building construction environment and rapid growth in newer flat glass

technologies. Developing countries in Asia (especially China and India), Latin America,

Eastern Europe and the Africa/Mideast region will show the strongest advances.

The global market for flat glass is dominated by Europe, China and North America. These

three regions account for more than two-thirds of global market demand. Emerging

markets, like India, with extremely low per capita consumption of glass present a potential

growth opportunity.

Some of the top players in this sector are Asahi India Glass, NSG Group, Saint-Gobain,

Guardian Industries and Hindustan National Glass.

With stability on the cost side and good outlook on the demand side, the glass segment has

good prospects. Robust growth in automobiles, infrastructure, liquor & other beverages,

boom in building and construction will see the glass industry at its best in the coming

years.
