Philosophy Of Children’s

Ministry

By: Michael Gomulka

Intro
 When I think of a “strategy” first thing that
comes to my mind is June 6th, 1944 (D-
Day). To strategize means to develop a
plan that will be effective from beginning to
the end. Below is my strategy plan for
children ministry that is aiming at (1)
transforming children to the image of
Christ, (2) equipping them with
fundamental biblical information and (3)
teaching them a Biblical worldview
Purpose
 The purpose of children ministry is:(1) to lead the children
into a life changing, life transforming relationship with Jesus
Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, their King and
their God (Romans 12:1-2). (2) To equip them in the
knowledge of the Word of God (II Timothy 3:16). (3) To
have them experience evangelism, discipleship, fellowship,
ministry and worship (Matthew 28:18-20). (4) To make
them a light house that will shine in this darkened world by
sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others and living a
transformed life backed up not only by what they say but
by what they do (Matthew 5:16, Hebrews 12:1). (5) A
necessity to form relationships with children’s parents and
keeping in touch with them on regular basis. It is a privilege
to lead children into a life transforming relationship with the
creator of heaven and earth; Jesus Christ. It is also a
privilege watching children falling in love with Jesus Christ.
Mission Statement
  Love the Lord
  Change Lives
  Venture into the Word
  Establish relationships
Vision Statement
 Train up a child in the way he should
go, Even when he is old he will not
depart from it. Prov 22:6 (NASB)
My Philosophy
 Teach the word
 Establish relationships
 Evangelism/discipleship
 Establish relationships with children
 Help kids find a place in the body of
Christ
Step by step strategy
 The first step to an effective strategy is to
get some backup. It is necessary to train
leaders for the youth ministry who are
“FAST”, faithful, available, solid in the Bible
and teachable. Apart from leaders we will
fall into the same problem that Moses did
because he was so frustrated with having
so many people come to him (Exodus
18:17-25).
 The second step is to know and pick
a target, churched and unchurched
children. It is vital that we know our
target and know their strengths and
weaknesses. Thus a thorough
knowledge of children psychology
would be extremely helpful.
 In the third step we pick a weapon
that will be most effective and that
will do most damage; Bible. We must
confront the children with the Bible
and how it applies to their lives.
 Next we must send troops into the
neighborhood around the church to
reach families with children through
various programs
 In step five we will break the iron
gates to their hearts with agape love,
sacrificing our time and our needs for
the sake of the kids. It is extremely
important to love the children and
make them feel loved.
 We wage a war with invisible
principalities (Ephesians 6:11-17).
The battle will not be easy that is
why we must penetrate the children
with love.
 We must form a “Biblical worldview”
in the children that we teach through
the word of God and our example,
children remember what we do not
what we say.
 Step eight is the last but not the
least. We must pray for our children
with passion. This is our secret
weapon that can destroy any
barriers. It is most effective and
most deadly. “Pray without ceasing”
(I Thessalonians 5:7).
Children eligibility
 1 year old to 10 years old
 Division: nursery, pre-k,
kindergarten, pre-teen
Programs and events
 All of the programs and events will be
briefly described and will specify the
intended aim in order to follow the
purpose of children ministry. The list
that will be given below is neither
exhaustive nor unchangeable.
Sunday School
 The Sunday school classes will be
divided by age. The main focus of this
event is to use the Bible in order to
teach a Biblical worldview and
concepts to the youngsters
Children’s camp
 One time during a year kids will go to
a camp filled with fun activities
according to the age group
Children’s night
 2-4 times a year kids will put a
talent-show for their families
Monthly parents conference
 First Saturday of the month from
11am-1pm will be a parent
conference at which I will mention
issues that need to be addressed and
vice versa. It will also be a time of
fellowship in order for parents to get
to know each other.
Sexual harassment policies
 Sexual misconduct in any form will not be
tolerated. Any such instances will be dealt
with immediately and will involve other
church staff members and parents if
necessary. All reported cases or allegations
will be subject to further investigation and
necessary legal action if needed. When
Abuse is suspected or reported, legal
requirements will be fully taken in
accordance with state laws, while striving
to maintain the privacy and integrity of the
abused party.
Children worker screening policies
 All children workers will be asked to undergo a
thorough screening process before assisting with
children ministry activities. Those who refuse to be
screened will not be allowed to work with the youth.
The screening process will include:
 Being a member of a church for at least six months
 Criminal and background check

 Reference check
 Personal interview
 Drug Test
 Church staff holds the right to refuse
any person the opportunity to work
with the children based upon
information obtained during the
screening process. Once accepted, a
two week period will be designated
for new children workers as training
among the experienced children
workers.
Children ministry teacher and
volunteer qualifications and
expectations
 Teachers and volunteers must meet
the minimum qualifications for
instructing children. These include:
 Profession of faith in Jesus Christ as
personal Lord and Savior
 Believer’s baptism
 Demonstrate spiritual growth and
maturity
 Member of a church for at least six
months
 Must be willing to dedicate their lives
to these children
 Must sign a teacher’s covenant
