Assessment
Explain the use and importance of animation in the following fields:
1. Education
Answer = Education always use animation. In our modern technology, teacher’s rarely used a
traditional presentation – most of them adopt the use of technology which is visual presentation.
In addition, education right now uses video presentation for better understanding and that video
presentation is considered as animation.
2. Health
Answer Public health authority’s uses animation to advertise or inform the public on how to build
awareness of our health. This is the most reliable way to inform others using animation.
3. Business
Answer = the very most important goal of business is to advertise their own product, in order to
achieve that, they uses animation as their main tools in spreading the name of their product and
business name.
4. Politics
Answer = Politician uses animation only on election days. They used animation in order to spread
their names, status, and platforms they want to achieve when they will be elected (which is the
most common lie).
5. Entertainment
Answer = Animation like cartoons and anime are one of the example of entertainment. Most
artist or cartoonist make their own story in forms of animation to express their feelings, mood,
and to entertain someone with their own art.

Write your thoughts about the lesson here:

Animation is very fun when you are in to it, fun because you can express and create your
own imagination using your hands or mouse (😊). Of course, we don’t born as individual
with a talent built in. It must be develop and practice for a year. Animation may be simple
as it looks and sound but doing it is a little bit rough.
For me, this is a great opportunity to learn the basic type and meaning of animation. So
far, I learned the function and its type also the right term that was used in my surroundings (the
stuff where always I seen every day like ads). I am looking forward for a great challenge from
this subject and hopes it shape my ability to create or edit an animation.
Lesson 2 History and Development of Animation

Pretest
Directions: Without looking at any references, write down below how you think animation in the
Philippines has started.
To be honest, I have no idea who, when, or where it was started. I do have assumptions though,
I think the animation in the Philippines has started when the technology bloom. For me,
animation is not something to be created in that particular date or whatsoever but it is something
that all humans has. From being children, I think we have the ability to create animation in our
mind. We can even draw a stick person, although it was not perfect drawing but that is the
starting point of animation as long as it was develop by individual.

Learning Activity
3 Main Obejectives;
1. Promote business side (outsourcing side)
2. Educational side (teaching animation)
3. Production of original Filipino content
Summary of the video:

The video defines animation as “an animation is really just a series of still images shown
in rapid succession” and discussed the following; stop-motion animation, traditional or cell
animation, and a computer based animation (2D/3D). It was the invention of film camera that
made animation possible – author of the video.
Animation in the Philippines has been around in 1930s-1950s and the famous book
entitled “Juan Tamad” with the author of Jose Zabala Santos and Francisco Reyes in 1955.
According to Ricky Orellana, during 1960s, the animation classes started pioneered by Larry
Alcala in the Philippines and years passed, Philippines artist started their own experimentation
starting by comics into animation. Time goes by, and the Philippines has the 1st full length
animated film entitled “Tadhana” by Nonoy Marcelo. Because of this establishment, other
countries saw the Philippines as animation outsourcing hub – to get a Filipino artist instead of
getting their own people (outsourcing), not just Filipino but also other countries that companies
afford their budget of salary. Meanwhile, in the movie industry, Geirry Garccia formed a team
and made the famous animation series of 1990s entitled “Panday” and that succession was led
to create another animation series like; Captain Barbell and Darna. Because of that, many other
animator inspired to create their own art and even create competition in the Philippines.
The excellent talent of Filipino in animating, captured the interest of small studios in
other countries and the animation industries of the Philippines continued and bloom – although,
as what I see nowadays, no matter how good Filipino are, we are still in an outsourcing stage.
Assessment
Create your own Thaumatrope by following the instructions below.

Write your thoughts about the lesson here:

In this topic, I learned the history of animation in the Philippine as well as the famous
artist/cartoonist involves in the past. Although it is not clear who is the father of the animation
as it trace confusing. So far, I learned a lot about the Philippine Animation and where it started
and the famous writer of the comic book entitled “Juan Tamad” by Jose Zabala Santos and
Francisco Reyes. I never thought that Philippines is the famous outsourcing in animation and
some Universities that offers courses – based on the video presentation.
Pretest

(traditional or digital). On the right side of the panel, write down how that equipment is being
used.

Assessment
Directions: List down 3 different ways on how you can make a simple DIY light box. Make sure to
include the materials needed and explain how it is done.
1. 1 thin whiteboard with border wood
This is the surface where you can put the paper and draw.
2. LED light with power supply
By using LED lights below the white whiteboard, it creates more lights and brightness (to
highlight the subject [drawing]).
3. Adjustable stand
To adjust the prefer angle of the user while drawing (compatible).
Write your thoughts about the lesson here:
After learning the basic meaning and type of animation, I also learned the tools used in
creating animation. There are some type of tools that I was not familiar for; X-sheets. So far so
good, and I was hoping for actualization of the tools and maybe touch and used it for a very
short time.

Lesson 5
Pretest
Directions: Without looking at any references, write down below how you think animation is
done.
For me, animation is done by a step by step guide and transfer – means it is a pre-requisite
guide in creating animation. Let’s assume that you want to create an Anime, First; get a plan –
think what kind of animation you are going to do and the character inside on it and the situation
etc.. Second; draw an outline – draw your first outline or draw a character, this means to create
your own comic book in order to have a better script of the story. Third; make changes – after
creating your comic book that describe the whole story or timeline, review and make a changes
and create a fine detailed character. Lastly; effects and documentation – after you finish creating
your detailed drawing, compile it all and start blending together and add some effects that you
desired (software involved). After that, you’re done.
Learning Activity
1. Pre-production Stage
By the word itself, it is a preparation or planning of elements that involves the film. A stage that
creates more time, man power, more reviews, more re-draws, and most of all patient.
2. Production Stage
A stage that compiled by a computer. All drawing are being colored or scanned by the computer
and even add more edit to make any adjustments.
3. Post-production Stage
The last stage, in which adding audio-visual effects to create more lively and interactive playback.
This is to ‘render’ the compiled colored drawing for the final output of animation.
Story Board (take some time - pending)
Dear Maam,

Greeting! I would like to pass this incomplete documentation answer to you. There are currently
3 assessments that was being blank in this file; Thaumatrope, flipbook, and story board. The
reasons are follows, Thaumatrope; I can’t attach video file on MS Word and I am currently making
on it. Flipbook; same reason as mentioned earlier, currently I need materials to do the specific
tasks which is money involves (crisis for me) and lastly, story board. I am planning to use Photopea
to edit a story board but because I am in crisis of money, I can’t access internet resulting to a very
long submission on the video, and edit. I hope your kind consideration and thank you for spending
your time reading this.

Truly Yours;
