Materials and tools

 Yarn: 1 or more colors. I used Catania cotton in green, red, brown, light brown, purple, white,
yellow colors.
The color changes are a suggestion only, you can choose your own color patterns.
 Crochet hook: 2.0 mm.
 Stuffing: I use polyester wool and a chopstick to stuff the doll.
 Tapestry needle, scissors.
• Black embroidery thread.
• Plastic safety eyes 7.00 mm (Do not forget to place them before finishing the head).
● Glue
● Metallic wire or match (Christmas tree).

Start to stuff head. Do it firmly.


Make 5 sc to be on the corner. Cut the yarn leaving a tail to sew gap.

How to finish:
Using the long tail of yarn, start from second loop. Sew the opening through the front loops by going
across each stitches (fig 6, 7 and 8).

Use 2.00 mm hook.

Cut the red yarn and attach white color (fig 14, 15 and 16).
How to change the color of yarn:
With the two loops from the previous yarn on the hook (fig 14), wrap around the new yarn around the
hook, pull the new yarn through the two loops of the stitch (fig 15, 16).

In each stitch crochet 1 ch and 1 slipstitch (fig 17 and 18).

How to close the gap:


Using the long tail of yarn, start from second loop. Sew the opening through the front loops by going
across each stitches (fig 6, 7 and 8).

Add stuffing as much as you can to avoid crease (fig 9), but be careful not to overstuff it.

TAB
Crochet 15 ch. Turn your work, sc all the way back starting in the 2 nd ch from the hook to make 14 sc in
total.
Sew the folded sides of tab to body (fig 11, 12).

BOW
In magic ring: (3 ch, 5 tr, 3 ch) x2. Cut the yarn leaving a tail. Wrap the yarn few times around the bow.

Use 2.00 mm hook.

Cut the yarn and leave a tail yarn for sewing.

DECORATION
I recommended to use a thinner yarn that the one you used for the body. You may also use paint if you
like.
How to make embroidery chains:
Bring your needle up through your starting point. Put needle down in the same spot where you just
brought it up, and then bring the needle back up through the next point (fig 14). Make sure that your
thread finds under the needle, then pull it through (fig 15). You have one embroidery chain (fig 16).

Sew the bow and bell to body.


Use pins to mark the facial features.
Eyes: with a black thread, embroider the eyes 5 stitches long and 1 stitch in height. Make sure it is loose
enough to form a smiling eyes. Do the same thing on the other eye. There should be 6 stitches in
between both eyes. Dab a lit bit of glue to secure the eyes (fig 20, 21).
Nose: with a same thread, embroider the nose 1 stitch long on the center.

Crochet 6 sc to be on the corner of body (fig 6). Cut the yarn and leaving a long tail (40 cm).

Don’t sew shut the head yet as we are going to attach the eyes first.

EYES
In magic ring: 3 ch and 16 tr. Cut the yarn and leave a tail. Join it with firth chain using a needle (fig 7, 8).

Place your eyes higher above green part of body and attach it between rounds 25 and 26.

After inserting the safety eyes into the center of the eyes, attach it to the head between rounds 25 and
26.
Stuff it firmly and sew shut in the same way we did for bear and bell (fig 10). Don’t cut the tail, we are
going to make the ears later.

Use the remaining tail to make the ears with a needle. Fold the tip on one side to form the ear. Make a
stitch (fig 13) and bring the needle on the other side (fig 14).
Make a few more stitches to secure the shape. Repeat the process to the other ear.

Go back to round 20 and work in the front loops.


Making the feathers:
Turn the body upside down and start making a series of shell stitch at the back using the previous yarn
(fig 17).
- Start with a sl st. Skip the next st, 5 dc to the next stitch (fig 18), skip the next st, slst to the next st.
- You should have 13 shell stitches around the body.

You can now sew the eyes to the head (fig 20, 21).
I used an embroidery thread to make the beak (fig 22).

WINGS
Use 2.00 mm hook.

Don’t stuff the wings. Close the wing with 15 sc across both sides (fig 23). Cut the yarn leaving some
length.
For the second wing, use a needle to move the yarn to the other corner (fig 24). The wings should be
symmetrical with each other.

Place the wings under the feathers and sew only first 3-4 stitches (fig 25).

LEGS
Use 2.00 mm hook.

Stuff the leg lightly.

There are a few ways on how to make a pompom. You can either use a fork, pompom make, or even
your fingers.
I did mine with my two fingers. I wrapped the yarn many times until I’m satisfied on how big I want my
pompom would be. The more times you wrap, the fluffier the pompom will be.

Place the safety eyes in the center of each shells and attach it between rounds 15 and 16 of the head.
(fig 14).
Stuff body firmly and close the gap (fig 15) in the same way as a penguin’s body.

Stuff the arms lightly and close it in the same way like the body (fig 18).

Next sew the face to body using the bar of face.

BEAK

I decorated my penguin with a hat and bow using the same patterns.

How to close the end of the round:


With a darning needle, insert the remaining yarn through all the front loops of the stitches on the last
round (fig 3). But don't pull the thread and close the gap.
Insert the match∕wire into the opening halfway through (fig 4).

Now pull the thread and close it. Wrap the yarn around the match and fix it with glue (fig 5).
