Lesson 1: 21st Century Literary Genres

What I need to know:

The original literary genres differ from the 21 st century by its expanded way of
classifying written works. The 21st century literary genres is composed of illustrated
novel, digi-fiction, graphic novel, manga, doodle fiction, text-talk novels, chick lit, flash
fiction, six-word flash fiction, creative non-fiction, science fiction, blog and hyper poetry.
There are only four major and conventional literary genres. These are the poetry, drama,
fiction, and non-fiction. These are transparent than modern literature. It is classified only
by its theme and nature. It is also easier to be classified than the modern literature.
Original literary genres are about persuasive writing, informational writing,
autobiography, and biography. It also has comedy and tragedy in the form of dramas.

Modern literature is more extensive than the genres of conventional literature. It

is classified according to its content and how the story or written work is narrated.
Illustrated novels stories are narrated through images and text. While digi-fiction is all
about triple media literature and these are book, movie/video and internet website.
Graphic novel is narrative in a comic book format. These are just some of the genres of
literature in 21st century which is more diverse, vast and specific than the original genres
in literature.

Over the years, literary genres have been developed in wide range of
classifications. The convenience of modern readers is evident. They have more choices
of literary genres that piqued their interest and curiosity. 21st century readers can not
only pass time by reading, but I can also broaden their knowledge of understanding on
how these literary works are made with different genres. These refined genres help us in
choosing the right book for us and be specific in the variety of writing that we want.
Above all the conventional and modern form of literary genres both help us in reading as
well as writing forms of literature depending on the genres that piqued our interest.
