Activity Guide and Evaluation Rubric – Phase 2 – Scenario 1

1. Activity Description

Type of activity: Individual

September 9, 2020 1, 2020
With this activity, you are expected to achieve the following learning
outcomes:

To interpret the information obtained from different data collection instruments


through participatory observation for the application and adaptation of activities in
virtual and face-to-face contexts.

The activity consists of:

For this practical course you have to observe 48 hours of English classes, divided into
the three intermediate activities of the course as follows:
Phase 2 – Scenario 1: 15 hours
Phase 3 – Scenario 2: 16 hours
Phase 4 – Scenario 3: 17 hours
Total: 48 hours

Therefore, for this practical activity, you have to observe 15 hours out of 48 that
lasts the participant observational practice in this course. These 15 hours of English
classes observation must be distributed into the three weeks of this activity.

Hence, you have to fill in some formats, such as “Plan de Trabajo”; “Diario de
Campo”; “Formato asistencia al lugar de práctica”; “Formato de evaluación de sitio de
práctica” these will be required in the activity guides of the course and these will
have a score in the evaluation rubric.

Please take a look at the “instructivo para el diligenciamiento de formatos de la


práctica pedagógica.”

Step 1: Formats required for this activity “Plan de Trabajo” and “Formato asistencia
al lugar de práctica”:
For this practical activity, you have to fill in the format “Plan de Trabajo” available in
the link shared above. Here you have to fill the required information, such as your
name, school´s name, teacher´s name…etc. Also, you have to get the signatures
required at the end of the Plan de Trabajo. The format must be filled in completely,
the writing must be clear, do not cross anything out. Finally, the format must be
scanned and deliver in PDF format.
“Formato de asistencia al Lugar de práctica”: This form is to register the attendance to
the observation practice, it needs to have the dates, length of time, and the signature
of the supervisor (teacher, academic coordinator or principal) in the institution where
you will be developing your practice. The dates you register in this form must match
with the ones you include in Plan de Trabajo form.

Step 2: School characterization:


Here you have to carry out the characterization of the school and the recognition of
the curriculum of the English subject, to do this you must collect the following
information:
-The approach applied in the school. (humanism, constructivism, behaviorism)
-School location. (Urban or rural)
-Type of school. (Public or rural)
-School level. (Elementary or high school)
-Does the school offer virtual or face-to-face encounters? (In case to be virtual, name
the strategies and tools used for these encounters)
-Economic stratification the students.
-The audiovisual AIDS in the school. (video beam, computers, English lab…)
-The school year of the course (First grade, second grade…)
-The number of students in the course.
-The English level of the students in the course. (A1, A2, B1, B2)
-English subject methodology. (Direct Method, Communicative Method, Natural
Method)
-The number of hours of English classes per week.

Step 3: Comparative Chart
Go to the learning environment and read all about Early Methods and pay special
attention to the second chapter of Approaches and Methods in Language Teaching.
pp.5-17.
Then, you have to create a comparative chart about the differences and similarities
among the following concepts:
• Method
• Approach
• Technique
• Procedure
• Design

For the development of the activity consider that:

Read the unit 1 – Early Methods, in order to create the comparative chart.
Post the individual steps 2 and 3.

2. General Guidelines for the Development of Evidences to Submit

For Individual evidences, consider the following:

• Before submitting the requested product, students should check that it meets all
the requirements mentioned in this activity guide.

• The formats must be submitted in PDF format. It must have the student´s and
school teacher´s signature. All the information required in the formats must be
filled in.
Please keep in mind that all individual or collaborative written products must comply
with the spelling rules and presentation conditions defined in this activity guide.
Regarding the use of references, consider that the product of this activity must
comply with APA style.
In any case, make sure you comply with the rules and avoid academic plagiarism.
You can review your written products using the Turnitin tool found in the virtual
campus.

Under the Academic Code of Conduct, the actions that infringe the academic order,
among others, are the following: paragraph e) Plagiarism is to present as your own
work all or part of a written report, task or document of invention carried out by
another person. It also implies the use of citations or lack of references, or it
includes citations where there is no match between these and the reference and

The academic penalties students will face are:


a) In case of academic fraud demonstrated in the academic work or evaluation, the
score obtained will be zero (0.0) without any disciplinary measures being derived.
b) In case of proven plagiarism in academic work of any nature, the score obtained
will be zero (0.0), without any disciplinary measures being derived.
