Algorithm of the Inventive Problem Solving (ARIZ-85C)

¾ ARIZ is a Russian acronym for "The Algorithm for Inventive

Problem Solving” – “Алгоритм Решения Изобретательских
Задач”.

¾ ARIZ-85C, the main module of TRIZ, is a set of sequential,

logical procedures for problem solving in the perfect manner.

¾ Author of ARIZ is Genrich Altshuller. The first version of ARIZ

was developed in 1956.

¾ Name ARIZ was introduced at the first time in the autumn in

1965. The modifications of ARIZ were named: ARIZ-68, ARIZ-
71, ARIZ-77, ARIZ-82... Last modification of ARIZ is ARIZ-85C

Algorithm of the Inventive Problem Solving (ARIZ-85C)

ARIZ-85C performs three major functions in TRIZ:

1. ARIZ-85C answers on question – how to use TRIZ modules

as a system in order to create best solutions for the problem.
ARIZ-85C performs TRIZ manager duties and shows us after
which step of problem analysis we are ready to use appropriate
modules of TRIZ.
2. ARIZ is an analytical algorithm for human brains (not an
algorithm for computers) which (by using 9 parts, 39 steps, 11
rules, and 44 comments) gently guides us from initially stated
problem to the elegant and innovative solutions.
3. ARIZ makes us more creative & innovative and helps us to
avoid influence of Psychological Inertia – our main enemy.

ARIZ-85C – Part 1
To start with ARIZ-85C, we should have good prepared description of pre-problem situation or problem with
clear visual image of problem (picture, sketch, photo, graphics…).
The main goal of the first part of ARIZ is a transition from an initial stated problem to a distinctly constructed
statement and model of the problem.

Selected Problem for Further

Solving After step 1.4 ARIZ-85C recommends
us to use Inventive Principles, Scientific
Effects, and Patent Collections.
ARIZ- 85C: PART 1
TRIZ Inventive Principles
1. Mini-problem definition.
2. Selection of the conflicting pair.
Scientific Effects
3. Technical contradictions formulation.
4. Selection one conflict diagram from
the two technical contradictions. Patent Collections
5. Reinforce (intensify) a conflict.
On the step 1.6, we have to go to
6. Generate a specified mini-problem model. System of Standard Solutions.
7. Check possibility of using of the System

After Part 1 completion, we can have
some of very promising concepts –
please do not stop, go to the Part 2.

ARIZ-85C – Part 2
Complete list of Time, Space, Substances (and ones parameters), and Fields (and
ones parameters) resources available for problem solving is a main goal of Part 2.
After Part 2, we are equipped and prepared for most innovative solutions.

and model of the mini-problem

ARIZ – 85C: PART 2

1. Conflict zone – resources of space
determination
2. Operational time determination –
resources of time determination
3. Determine substance-field-parameters
resources (SFR) for the article and tool, of
the problem along with the considered
system environment, and over (overall)
systems. Make a list of SFR.

ARIZ-85C – Part 3
In Part 3 we begin to analyze how to use our available resources defined in Part 2 as effectively as possible. IFR-
1 and IFR-2 formulation realize these efforts. It becomes possible to formulate PC on macro and micro levels.
The application of the 3rd part of ARIZ should produce concepts of an ideal solution. It is not always possible to
obtain an ideal solution but the IFR indicates a direction toward the most potent answer.

List of resources of space, time,

substances, and fields After steps 3.3 and 3.4, ARIZ-85C recommends us
to use Separation Principles, Scientific Effects, and
Patent Collections. We already were pointed to use
Scientific Effects and Patent Collections in Part 1.
ARIZ - 85B: PART 3
Now we are better prepared and can use these two
1. Write down a formulation of IFR-1 TRIZ modules more effectively.
2. Reinforce (intensify) a formulation of IFR-1 with TRIZ Separation Principles
additional requirements: it must not introduce new
substances and fields into the system – use SFR
Scientific Effects
3. Write down a formulation of a PC on a macro-level
4. Write down a formulation of a PC on a micro-level
Patent Collections
5. Write down a formula of an ideal final result IFR-2
6. Check availability of using the system of On the step 3.6, we have to go to System of
standards to solve a physical problem formed as Standard Solutions again.
