TOPIC: Cultures and Selves: A Cycle of Mutual Constitution

1. Before reading the article, I used to think that our culture only affect our beliefs and virtues in a
certain way. However, after reading the article I realized that our culture, the environment we
are in, and what we believe shapes ourselves. Second thing that I’ve learned is how the self
relates to our culture and how culture is related to our self. And the last thing that I realized
about this reading is about the mutual constitution of our cultures and selves.
2. The three things that are confusing for me about the reading is the independence and
interdependence and the meaning of cultural priming.
3. The three question that I want to ask regarding the reading is how pervasive is cultural
differences, second question I want to ask is does coming from different culture a big deal? And
the third thing I want to ask; are we happy with the influence of our culture to ourselves?
