Primary Purpose:
Teaches and facilitates learning for students, maintaining academic progress, discipline and records. Works with parents and
students to provide and implement individualized education to meet the needs of all students.

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of federal and state education law
Ability to understand the individual needs of students
Understanding of goal setting for students and the individualized approach
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to communicate with all levels of students and their parents
Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
A general knowledge of the computer, and must be able to learn and implement OdysseyWare curriculum software
program and instruct students on utilization.
Ability to work with children, passion for children, patience is a plus, ability to transition with changes.
1. Administers Diagnostic Tests to determine a student’s performance level and assigns curriculum accordingly
2. Prepares academic projections for all students 9th grade and higher and prepares a course of study following curriculum
guidelines or requirements of state and school
7. Maintains a learning center that is conducive to learning, is safe, attractive and stimulating (displays student’s work)
8. Sets a good housekeeping example in the learning center and encourages students to follow this example
9. Schedules periodic meetings with parents to discuss student progress and problems
10. Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops
11. Inspires students with consistency, care, and interest to build students’ self-esteem and promote further success
12. Praises students, compliments them and encourages them in order to build character
13. Utilizes a variety of learning methods to enhance the students’ learning experiences
14. Prepares an individualized plan to promote students’ success on the state’s assessment instrument
15. Works closely with the Special Education teacher to ensure special education students’ modifications are being implemented
16. Performs related duties such as sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations, assisting students in selecting
courses of study, and counseling students in adjustment and academic problems
Other Requirements:
16. Master the Responsive Education Solutions Individualized Learning System in order to assist the students in mastering the
system
17. Read and comply with the Procedures Manual, Student Handbook, Student Code of Conduct, and the Employee Handbook
Directly supervises one to two Paraprofessionals. The teacher carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the
school’s policies. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising
performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
