Develop all these and more with the New ABCs modules
& challenges.
Responsibility
New ABCs provides a set of challenges that allows students to take responsibility
for real life outcomes and business decisions. The challenges allow teachers to take a
greater responsibility for preparing students for the world of business and work from
any age in any subject.
Flexibility
The challenges are designed to fit in with all areas of the curriculum, supporting
Every Child Matters, Parental Participation, and any likely future initiatives and
programmes that arise. We will continue to provide the resources you need to prepare
students for the world beyond the school gates.

Support
We are here to help all people realise that they have what it takes to be successful
in the world of business. We offer email support (info@newabcs.com) to every teacher,
facilitate development courses, and continue to create new content to empower you.
Every challenge has blank worksheets. You can add images and text
to better suit a specific topic.
Teacher Prep
Each module does, or can have, a wide number of cross curriculum links. We would love to
hear the innovative ways you have used these modules in the classroom to support other
areas of the curriculum. We will share these across the entire New ABCs membership.

Learning Outcomes
Below is an example of one set of assessment criteria that are provided within each
challenge. The criteria and learning outcomes are just as flexible as the challenges
themselves, and you may need to add extra factors for certain subjects or topics.
There are some basic bits of technology that are needed to use the presentations.
HARDWARE:
• An internet connection.
• A smartboard or screen the students can all see.
SOFTWARE:
• An Internet Browser.
• Adobe Flash Player 8 or later.
• Adobe PDF Reader 5 or later.
• Access to YouTube (ask your ICT Department to clear access to the links).
PLANNING:
• Run through each presentation yourself so you are familiar with the content and controls
• Let the Hints and Cards download completely, and let the pages turn fully.
• Flash presentations are small, and should run smoothly.
Accessibility
FOR VISUALLY IMPAIRED.
New ABCs will happily provide worksheets in a format you can use to allow
visually impaired students, staff or parents to participate fully. We can provide
text in a format suitable for translation into braille or for screen readers.
Please contact us with your needs.
All of the student worksheets are well suited to being enlarged (A3+), and we
suggest this for all students to provide enhanced readability, better focus for
group activity, and more working space for each activity.
Printing Smartly.
You might be able to save a little paper and ink by reading the teacher
workbook on the computer screen, and only printing out exactly what you
need for the lesson. Not all the worksheets are needed for each lesson, so
please check before you print.
C Student Worksheets
Provides the worksheets for the main
challenge and extensions.
Suggest you print once and photocopy. A3
size might work well for the group activities.
FAMILY
The New ABCs challenges are perfectly suited to involving family both in the
classroom, and at home. Any adult can add their own insight in the classroom. You can
easily send blank worksheets home and have the student challenge their family to do
the challenges (the student becomes the teacher).
COMMUNITY
With the infinite flexibility of these challenges, you can easily invite members of the
community who are active in the industry that you are studying - you could ask a
gallery manager in for Art, an architect for Geometry, a theatre director for Drama,
or a Manager of a local welfare group for PSHE. These examples are obviously very
limited, and each topic with in a subject will have its own range of specialists you could
call upon.
OTHER SUBJECTS
If you are using the challenges over a few days or weeks, it is easy to get input from
other areas of the curriculum. You might be creating a supply chain for getting
malaria nets to people most in need of them. You could involve Geography and
Biology Teachers to help students decide which areas are most in need, DT could help
inform the best production methods and considerations, and Math could help do some
of the big equations in how many would be needed, what costs are involved and the
impact it would have.
SCHOOL EXECUTIVE
Remember that the school is an organisation that buys and sells goods and services.
It is an environment students can relate to, and involving school management will
open their eyes to the complexity of something they likely take for granted.
