Order No.: P-SI-82.64/123A
Supersedes: P-SI-82.64/123
Group: 82
a WARNING!
Disconnecting the negative battery cable is not recommended due to otherwise extensive
reprogramming requirements. WIRING HARNESSES WILL BE ELECTRICALLY ACTIVE. IT IS
THEREFORE NECESSARY TO EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION WHILE EXECUTING THESE
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. FAILURE TO DO SO, COULD RESULT IN SEVERE PERSONAL INJURY
OR DEATH FROM ELECTRICAL SHOCK. The ignition and radio power must remain OFF until the final
test is performed.
Note: Refer to S-SI-82.64/123, D2B Fiber Optic Configuration and Version Coding for proper handling and
configuration of D2B fibers.

a NOTICE!
DO NOT reverse the above RF
connections. Reversing the RF
connections can result in limiting the
range, or total failure, of the Tele Aid
Emergency Call System.
19. Connect the 4-pole connector to the antenna
switch.
20. Fit the compensator into the quarter panel
opening (Figure 13).
Note: Do not pinch or stretch the wiring and
RF cables. Be sure that the top leg of the
compensator bracket is behind the diagonal
support member and two lower legs are in
front of the vertical support members.
21. Secure the front, then the rear, compensator
bracket leg to the vehicle with an M6 sheet
metal screw, but do not tighten completely.
22. Slide the antenna switch bracket between the
vertical support member and the top Figure 13 P82.70-2936-01
compensator bracket leg.

1. Visually inspect to make sure all fiber optic cables are free of kinks, have a bend radius no more than
25-mm, and are free of stress.
2. Power up COMAND by pressing the PWR button on the lower right button cluster.
3. Select an audio mode (e.g. radio) to make sure there is audio output.
Note: Audio output indicates that all modules are connected and the optical ring is functioning. It
DOES NOT indicate that the ring is properly configured (see Section G for final confirmation).
• Perform the following steps with COMAND ON and audio playing. Loss of audio may indicate that
fibers have been stressed and/or damaged during final assembly.
4. Mount the amplifier bracket assembly to the trunk rail with the two (2) M5 self-tapping screws
previously removed, but do not tighten completely.
5. Mount the front amplifier assembly leg to the wheel well with the previously removed collar nut.
Note: Apply slight downward pressure on the amplifier assembly when tightening the fastener.
6. Fasten the voice activation module bracket leg (if installed) and amplifier assembly bracket leg to the
stud on the quarter panel with the collar nut.
Note: Make sure the bracket(s) are properly seated by applying slight downward pressure.
7. Tighten the trunk rail fasteners, including the voice activation module bracket leg if installed.
1. Connect StarDiagnosis (DAS) to the vehicle and perform the version coding outlined below:
• Skip to step 2, if the telephone is NOT installed.
2. Using path: Control units/Information and communication/ICM/Control unit adaptations/Standard
version coding/Optional equipment, set CTEL = Present
3. Version code the electronic ignition switch (EIS) to indicate the presence of the VCS module.
4. Using path: Control units/Information and communication/D2B/Control unit adaptations/Read
coding and change if necessary/Specified configuration of D2B components, set the D2B ring
configuration per the following table:
5. Return to the Cockpit management and data system menu. Using path: Actual values/Actual
configuration of D2B components, verify that the version coding input above (specified value) matches
the actual configuration performed during installation (actual values). If a difference exists, the ring has been
improperly configured and installation must be disassembled in reverse, diagnosed and the error corrected.
a NOTICE!
DO NOT alter the configuration in step G4 to match the vehicle configuration. Failure to have the
configuration set as specified in the above table will result in erroneous system operation and/or
intermittent failure of some or all components.
6. Check the DTC memory of all installed components and the head unit. Any present DTC(s) should be
investigated and the source identified. The source of the DTC(s) should be corrected and DTC memory
cleared.
Note: Powering up the newly installed system prior to the above described version coding, will set D2B
ring configuration errors. These errors may be ignored during the initial DTC check. If, after clearing the
DTC(s), they return in the next step, a configuration error is present and must be located and corrected.
7. Confirm that no new DTC(s) have been set in the D2B system group.
