mill scale is the oxide layer on semi finished product. if you use oxygen directly it produces rigorous heat by
reacting with Si

but this gives toxic fumes.

this ratio should be high since ratio of S in slag should be higher than S in metal
the middle emulsion layer is called

S present in molen material and CaO is slag both has to come to
slag-metal interface and react
first remove Si then P bcz otherwise whatever oxygen, lime present here reacts with Si not with P. This also causes decrease in basicity of slag which
is not good for dephosparization.
