1. Latitude
2. Distance from the sea
3. Altitude
4. Prevailing winds
5. Topography – flat lands or mountains
6. Presence of large bodies of water
7.
8. Aspect – the direction the land is facing

elements of weather and climate

Continental Drift

Alfred Wegner 1880-1930 book named The Origin of Continents and Oceans

Once all of the continents were connected known as Pangaea – supercontinent that existed around 250
million years ago. In Greek terms it mean “entire earth”. 170 million years ago it boke into Laurasia and
Gondwanaland, and between them was Tethys sea

Evidence he provided were four

1. The apparent fit of the continents like the pieces of a puzzle

2. Fossil Correlation
a. Fossils and other evidence of pre historic life for example Mesosaurus, Cynognathus,
lystosaurus, and a tree named GLosopteris is found in eastern coast of south America
and western coast of Africa
3. Rock and Mountain Correlation – Eastern United States and Western Europe
4. Paleoclimate Data OR Past Climate Data
5. Paleo Magnetic -
