eral, the details of his life which have reached
us here in 2011 are somewhat sketchy. He be-
came a Catholic and a follower of Jesus. Jesus
taught that “Blessed are the peacemakers.”
The Roman army was ruthless in its conquest
of the peoples of Europe and North Africa.
Saint Valentine soon realized that his military
career and his Catholic principles were contra-
dictory. He became a conscientious objector.
There was no room in the Roman army for
conscientious objectors and so Valentino was
executed when he refused to pursue his mili-
tary career of plundering, enslaving and killing
innocent people because of his firm belief in
the Gospel of the Prince of Peace.
