SHG members have learned
î ahe importance of saving, contribution, earning income has improved and also
maintaining appropriate books of account recording at the time of meeting culture
developed.
î ao meet their operating cost SHG have learnt to contribute along with savings as an
additional amount as per their requirement.
î ore or less proper fund utilisation is accessed to improve the rural economy.
î ¦roper fund absorption capacity also builds up through group internal lending and
borrowing.
î ½mproved the culture or nourished among them through collective group business for
their sustainability.
î ieveloped the capacity of individual SHG members to maintain inter villages transport
network and also make available transportation services such as vehicle running i.e.
ahindra ¦ick- Up, City Ride or ini City buses etc.
î ahrough rural connectivity inflow and outflow of the villages also increases as a result
income also increases of each household.
î any SHG leaders were being utilized to conduct training and sharing the knowledge or
experience at the village and Block level as a Community Resource ¦erson. ahus it is
also a part of SHG movement in the district.
î ao capacitate and to strengthen the womenfolk¶s potential mobilized each household
woman to participate and to form more focused groups to promote services through
themselves.
î ainstream the gender, capacitate the womenfolk and empower the women through SHG
as a result conglomerate SHG federation in several areas.
î ½n West Garo Hills iistrict an Apex SHG Federation is now in a position to promote
small financial help through icro finance institute Banking ½nstitute and Learning
Centre of Excellence for Holistic Aspiration of others (B½LCHA F½, promoted by
iistrict Administration.
î Being a atrilineal Society womenfolk¶s now can raise their voice which was rare before
formation of SHG.
 
î Still some portions of the areas which are untouched remain same. ahey need some sort
of services and dedication to improve or to uplift their mindset.
î iue to poor socio economic condition most of the time SHG members have to engage for
daily wages and for agriculture labour/ jhum cultivation.
î Being a male dominated society most of the women cannot participate in the SHG
meeting. ahus it is difficult to mainstream the gender and to improve their socio-
economic condition.
î ½lliterate also a main reason where they have face difficulties to access themselves and to
understand the overall concept of development.
î ½mmaturity of the group or the juvenile stage also hinders them to nurture the overall
concept of the community.
î Lack of banking facility also hinders them to improve their socio economic status.
î ½n access of several central/state government schemes is also one of the reasons of
lacking behind.
î Lack of proper training sorting also one of the reasons of Groups weakness.
î ½n access of Govt. Scheme and lack of proper implementation of line departments also
demoralize the groups which tending to them in a weak helpless group.
î ½rregularity of saving and improper fund utilization or mismanagement of the group also
a reason where group members find difficult to strengthen their group.

 
î As per the six schedule women folk are the head of the traditional village institution.
î As per the customary law of Garo tribe youngest girl is the owner of the property. ahus
womenfolk¶s have a right in decision making and can play vital role to change their
society.
î Since all the lands belong to the Nokma there is opportunity to developed orchard for
better sustainable income.
î Being a matrineal Society womenfolk¶s are fully aware of land tenure system and after
marriage women has to stay back in her own house. ahus this a great advantage to the
womenfolk to improve their livelihood condition.
î Abundant availability of natural resources is also a good opportunity for the development
of permanent orchards for long term income generation through group activities.
î Climate conditions are very much suitable for the income generation activities of the
SHGs.
î Changes of climate can also regenerate some activities which can give them in return for
their sustainability throughout the year like Weaving, aailoring etc.
î Several types of training imparting to the SHGs and exposure are also tended them to
improved their mindset and allow them to take initiative of social changes.
î Small financial help of B½LCHA also help them to take up micro enterprise which is
lifted them to improved their economic condition

 
î iue to illiterate SHG could not maintained their book of accounts which result high
chances of defang of the SHG.
î iue to illiterate among the SHGs some literate members are taking the advantage of all
kinds of benefits thus demoralize the other group members not to participate in decision
making.
î iue to non banking services in rural areas SHGs are encouraging cash transaction and
some literate leaders are taking advantages to manipulate the fund utilization.
î ¦ost project backup follow up planning or exit strategy is lacking behind to take care of
SHGs even after the projection period
î Some part of the Garo Hills i.e. rural communities are still living below the B¦L. iaily
wage labour being a main dependent for livelihood which is very difficult to contribute
saving, times to attend the meeting and to learn such kind of knowledge to allow them
access.
î iue to in access of poor rural transportation network money lenders can take vital role in
some part of the Garo Hills. ahus villagers have to suffer higher rate of interest.
î ÷pening of bank account in commercial bank need many formalities which are not
affordable to the rural communities to spend money.
î ¦oor economic status also hinders them to open bank account in the nearest bank and also
banking service is not available in all the rural area¶s to operate their account which is
inconvenient and expensive for them.
