Naagendra-haaraaya trilochanaaya Bhasm-aanga-raagaaya maheshvaraaya.
Nityaaya suddhaaya digambaraaya Tasmai “na” karaaya namah shivaaya. (1)
Reverential salutations to the syllable “NA”, the God wearing the serpent as a garland, who has three
eyes, a body decorated with sacred ashes, the great God. One who is always pure and is minimally
dressed.
Mandaakinee-salila-chandana-charchitaaya
Nandeesh-vara-parmatha-natha-maheshvaraaya.
Mandaara-pushpa-bahu-pushpa supoojitaaya
Tasmai “ma” karaaya namah shivaaya. (2)
I bow down to Shiva, who is “Ma”, the second letter of his mystic word-symbol (Mantra), who is
anointed with waters of river Mandakini at Kedar and sandal paste, the Lord of Nandi and of the
Shivyog Swadhay
goblins, the Great God, who is adorned with Mandara and various other kinds of flowers.
Shivaaya gauree-vadanaabja-vrinda Suryaaya dakshaa-dhvara-naashakaya.
Shree neelakanthaaya vrusha-dhvajaaya Tasmai “shi” karaya namah shivaaya. (3)
I bow down to Shiva, who is “Shi”, the third letter of his mystic word-symbol (Mantra), who is the
rising sun causing to bloom the lotus face of Gowri, the divine mother, the destroyer of daksha’s
sacrifice, the Blue-necked one, who has the bull for his ensign.
Vasishtha-kumbhod-bhava-gautam-aarya Munindra-devarchita-sekharaaya.
Chandraarka-vaishvaanara-lochanaaya Tasmai “va” karaaya namah shivaaya (4)
I bow to Shiva, who is “Va”, the fourth letter of his mystic word-symbol (Mantra), who is worshipped
as the most distinguished of Gods by the great rishis of the aryas like Vasishta, Agastya and Gautama,
as also by the Gods and who has the moon, sun and fire for his three eyes.
Yagna-svarupaaya jataa-dharaaya Pinaaka-hastaaya sanaatanaaya.
Divyaaya devaaya digambaraaya Tasmai “ya” karaaya namah shivaaya. (5)
I bow down to Shiva, who is “Ya”, the fifth letter of his mystic word-symbol (Mantra), who is the
embodiment of sacrifice whose locks are matted, who wields the Pinaka-bow, the eternal, the divine,
the shining one, having the quarters for his garments.
