At First Listen a person might mistake this
Album for a traditionally studio recorded jazz
production but they would be wrong.

Such is the nature of music today that an entire album

can be created using only a computer.

then-expensive CD Writer for my computer.

Little to my knowledge then the package came with a

yellow CD-ROM called “Acid Music 1.0”. It was a

interest in computer based music production was born.

Sony Acid Music Pro
is the music software that
was used to arrange this album.

It allows for arrangement of

music loops and effects to create
your own songs.

Music Loops
a music loop is an audio file that contains
a single musical element such as a drum beat
or a short piano melody that can be played
repeatedly and arranged with other loops to
produce musical arrangements.

A Waveform Image of a Loop File

the major advantage of music loops is that those who

cannot play instruments can make arragements using
studio-quality audio at a very low cost compared to
having to hire and record the audio themselves
I used a royatly free
music loop library
called “Jazz Quartet” by
Big Fish Audio for most of the
songs in the album.

The Library contains sets of

folders that contain peices of
Jazz Arrangements broken
down into their indivitual
tracks.
Big Fish Audio Jazz Quartet

Each set contained indivitual loops for:

Piano
Drums
Guitar
Bass

the loops could then be mixed and matched to

be arranged in custom songs.
Audio Effects

Amplitube 3 Virtual Guitar Amp and Effects Procceser

The real creative power comes from audio effects

software plugins that allow you to add life into
pre-made music loops.

For all the Guitar and Bass loops in the album i used a
virtual guitar amp and effect software to give it a more
natural sound. Each track also adds some reverb to
give a “live” feel as well as some mastering effects to
smooth things out in the end.
Interesting Facts about some tracks
Moonlit Evening uses an extra reverb effect on the
saxaphone to give it more of a live feel

Old Point uses a “delay” effect to add a bit of unique echo

to the song at various points

Amsterdam contains drums that are neither live played

nor pre-recorded loops. They are from a pre-programmed
drum pattern run through a virtual drum software
instrument. Bet you cant tell it’s not real drums can you?

Rain Downtown is the only track to contain only one

element and also uses a reverb to give the saxaphone a
greater “live” feel.

Summer in New York has the piano run through the

Guitar Amp effect plugin for an interesting sound

Fridays at the Metronome contains a

audio filter on the piano for a interesting effect
