Test II. Essay

a. Explain Condensation- is the change of the physical state of matter from the gas phase into the liquid phase, and is
the reverse of vaporization. The word is most often refers to the water cycle. It can also be defined as the change
in the state of water vapor to liquid water when in contact with a liquid or solid surface or cloud condensation
nuclei within the atmosphere. When the transition happens from the gaseous phase into the solid phase directly,
the change is called disposition.
b. Explain evaporation- is the process by which an element or compound transitions from its liquid state to its
gaseous state below the temperature at which it boils. In particular, the process by which liquid water enters the
atmosphere as water vapor. Evaporation, mostly from the sea and from vegetation, replenishes the humidity of
the air. It is an important part of the exchange of energy in the Earth-atmosphere system that produces
atmospheric motion and therefore weather and climate. The rate of evaporation depends on the temperature
difference between the evaporating surface and the air, the relative humidity, and wind.
c. Explain water cycle- it is also called hydrologic cycle, that involves the continuous circulation of water in Earth-
atmosphere system. Of the many processes involved in the water cycle, the most important are evaporation,
transpiration, condensation, precipitation, and runoff. Although the total amount of water within the cycle remains
essentially constant, its distribution among the various processe the continually changing.
