Weekly Home Group Guide

Week of February 20-26

Belong
Welcome
Get a recent copy of the book Operation World & place it on the counter. As people arrive, give them a nametag & ask
them to write the name of a foreign country on their tag. Point out the book, ask everyone to look up their country & later
in HG they will share 3 facts about that country.

Opening Prayer
Consider gathering the group in a circle & hold hands for the prayer time. Take a moment to officially welcome any guests
or highlight anything significant to the group just before you pray (e.g., a birthday, anniversary, special prayer need, etc.)

For consideration: Privately ask an adult or child beforehand if they would pray for the food & ask for God’s blessings on
tonight’s HG.

Become (Spiritual Disciplines, Care) // Pick at least one from each category to use in leading your group
Suggestion for Family Time
A) If you wanted to say “hello” to everybody in the world, you would have to learn over 6,700 spoken languages & say
hello to over 6 Billion people. WOW! Here are some different ways to say “hello.” Spanish: “Hola!”, Cherokee: “Oh-see-
yo”, German: “Guten tag!”, Mayan: “Bah-ah shko-Wah ah-leek”, Hindi: “Nah-mah-stay”, Hebrew: “Shalom.”
B) Explain our new Mission statement & teach it to the kids: “Making God known by making disciples who are changed by
God to change their world.”
C) Ask the children to share 2 things that God has done for them. Then ask how God can use them to help someone else?

Suggestion for Kids Time

A) Teach the song “Jesus loves the little children” & have them draw pictures of how children from other countries might
dress. Look the song up on You Tube if you need to refresh your memory.
B) Prior to HG, bake 2 or 3 dozen sugar cookies. Ask people in your HG to bring cookies decorating items (frosting, sprin-
kles, etc.). Have the children decorate cookies for someone in your group who needs encouragement.

Suggestions for Adult Talk Time

A) Our new Mission statement is “Making God known by making disciples who are changed by God to change their world.”
Who makes up your “world”? How can God use you to change your world? (world = sphere of influence)
B) What blessings has God given you so that you can bless others?
C) Ask each person/couple to tell us about their neighbors? Encourage everyone to take one step this week in getting to
know their neighbors better, so God might use you to change their world. Share ideas with one another.

Suggestions for Prayer Time

A) Prior to HG, go to www.operationworld.org & scroll over Prayer Movement. Click on Pray Today. Print a copy to use
for your HG.
B) Pray for everyone who will go on the June mission trip to Spain—this trip will help Manny & Jamie Fernandez in plant-
ing a new church in Barajas. Ask God to show these people how good He has been to them, so that they can share His
goodness with others & bring God great glory! (FYI—Sign ups are underway for this trip! See Lobby booth for details.)
