cD+i

The Center for Design+Innovation at the Fox School of Business: Transforming Ideas into Actions.

The Center for Design+Innovation (cD+i) is where ideas are transformed into actions. Through a
unique blending of design, management and technology, the cD+i envisions and builds better
possibilities for the future. The cD+i works with leaders in the fields of design, management and
technology to deliver cutting-edge, interdisciplinary, and action-oriented education programs at
all levels. The cD+i also carries out bold and transformative research initiatives that go beyond
traditional disciplinary boundaries. The cD+i is a home for a dynamic mix of scholars, students,
designers, engineers, entrepreneurs and scientists who are pursuing breakthrough ideas by
collaborating with various stakeholders to address pressing societal challenges by creating
solutions that are economically sustainable, environmentally responsible and humanly satisfying.

Organization

The cD+i is founded through the generous support of the Fox School of Business and
Management and the Institute of Business and Information Technology (IBIT). It is affiliated
with the MIS department at the Fox School, which was recently ranked #1 in the world for its
research productivity in year 2010. The cD+i draws on world-renowned faculty members of
Temple University from business, computer and information sciences, design, electrical
engineering, biology and urban geography. The cD+i collaborates with other groups at Temple
University including IBIT, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute, the Center for
Competitive Government, and Temple University Computer Services. The cD+i works closely
with a network of the world’s leading institutions and corporations. The cD+i has an advisory
board comprising leaders in design, management and technology who meet bi-annually to
provide strategic guidance for the Center’s activities.

The cD+i is supported by membership and research grants to cover its research, education and
outreach programs. The cD+i’s research is organized into a set of Strategic Research Initiatives
(SRIs) that are co-sponsored by a group of members and a group of cD+i faculty members on a
targeted common research topic. For example, currently, the Center is developing an SRI on
future digital cities as operating systems. The cD+i provides individual student or faculty-led
projects sponsored by an individual member.
