Fast Offerings
"The concept of fast offerings appears as early as the time of
Isaiah when, speaking of the true fast, he encouraged people to
fast and 'to deal thy bread to the hungry, and . . . bring the poor
that are cast out to thy house' (Isaiah 58:7). The Prophet Joseph
instituted the practice of collecting fast offerings for the poor
in Kirtland, Ohio; and later at Nauvoo, Illinois, the Quorum of
the Twelve Apostles sent a general letter to the Church
defining 'the principle of fasts,' stating: 'Let this be an ensample to all saints, and
there will never be any lack for bread: When the poor are starving, let those who
have, fast one day and give what they otherwise would have eaten to the bishops
for the poor, and every one will abound for a long time; and this is one great and
important principle of fasts approved of the Lord. And so long as the saints will
all live to this principle with glad hearts and cheerful countenances they will
always have an abundance' (History of the Church, 7:413)."

pass' (Alma 37:6). When applied in our everyday lives, these four 'small and
simple' guides from the book of Joshua will combine to
provide the most powerful source of courage and strength
there is: faith in our Heavenly Father and in His Son, Jesus
Christ."

"I repeat the promise that those who hearken to the voice of these men whom the
Lord has raised up 'shall not be moved out of their place' (D&C 124:45).
"But the promise was followed with this caution: 'But if they will not hearken to
my voice, nor unto the voice of these men whom I have appointed, they shall not
be blest' (D&C 124:46)."

"What your leaders and I are saying to you is 'trust us.' We are trying to call out to
you back over the years, looking back to the path we walked and
that you are now walking. We are still walking it too, but we are
doing so now with the advantage of a little more experience and
a little more wisdom. We want to help."

Obedience
"Obedience to the Lord's commandments provides us confidence in our chosen
path, qualifies us for His guidance and direction as we pursue our efforts, and
offers us the potential to become like our Savior, Jesus Christ, and return to our

Divine Forgiveness
“I testify that the Savior is able and eager to forgive our sins.
Except for the sins of those few who choose perdition after
having known a fulness, there is no sin that cannot be forgiven
(see Boyd K. Packer, “The Brilliant Morning of Forgiveness,”
Ensign, Nov. 1995, 19). What a marvelous privilege for each of
us to turn away from our sins and to come unto Christ. Divine
forgiveness is one of the sweetest fruits of the gospel,
removing guilt and pain from our hearts and replacing them with joy and peace of
conscience. Jesus declares, ‘Will ye not now return unto me, and repent of your

for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are
spiritually discerned’ (1 Corinthians 2:14). This ‘natural man is an enemy to God,
. . . and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy
Spirit, . . . and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, [and] full
of love’ (Mosiah 3:19).”
