Military Schools of India – Admission to Class VI

1. Military Schools located at Ajmer [Rajasthan], Bangalore [Karnataka], Belgaum


[Karnataka], Chail [Himachal Pradesh] and Dholpur [Rajasthan] invite applications for
admission to class VI.

2. Established since pre independence, Military Schools are CBSE affiliated, fully residential
institutions, which function under the aegis of Ministry of Defence.

3. Entrance Exam : The Common Entrance test for admission to Class VI will be held on 17
Dec 2006 [Sunday], The exam will be automated OCR based in subjects of Intelligence,
Mathematics, General Knowledge and English.

4. Application Forms : Application forms can be obtained from any of the Military Schools as
mentioned above by either paying Rs.25/- for the application form or Rs. 150/- (Rs.75/- in
case of SC/ST) for a comprehensive Prospectus and application form. Applicants to forward
self addressed envelop of size 31 cm 25 cm affixed with Rs. 42/- stamps along with Demand
Draft payable at respective Military School.

APPLICATIONS OF WARDS OF JCOs AND OR WILL NOT REPEAT NOT BE ROUTED THROUGH
RESPECTIVE RECORD OFFICES. ALL APPLICATIONS WILL ONLY BE ROUTED THROUGH
MILITARY SCHOOLS.
All details pertaining to list of Exam Centres etc. are given in the Application form.

Last date for submission of filled in application form is 20 Sep 2006.

5. Eligibility
(a) Age : 10 to 12 years as on 01 Jul 2007. Six months relaxation in upper age is
permissible for the sons of war widows/JCOs/OR Killed in action.
(b) Education : A candidate studying in class Vth is eligible to appear in the admission test.
However, he must pass class Vth from a Govt./recognized school before the date of
admission to a Military School.
(c) Medical : The candidate should be medically fit. Selected candidates will have to undergo
medical exam at. the Command/Zonal and other Military hospitals as nominated by the
Director General of Medical Services prior to admission and only those found medically fit
will be offered admission.

7. Reservation of Vacancies (of total strength of Military schools)
(a) 67% for wards of JCO and Other Ranks of Army, Navy and AF (including ex servicemen)
(b) 20% for wards of officers of Army, Navy and AF (including ex servicemen)
(c) 13% for wards of civilians
(d) 50 seats are reserved for service personnel Killed in Action
(15% and 7.5% seats are reserved for wards of SC and ST category respectively)

8. Successful candidates will be required to appear for interview in respective Military


Schools. Final merit list will be announced after the Interview' Results will also be posted oh
Internet and Army Intranet.

Sainik schools …. Admissions into Sainik Schools, Rashtriya Military Schools and
Rashtriya Indian Military College

Rashtriya Indian Military College

Rashtriya Indian Military College is a step to get entry into National defence academy. It
provides education from 8th to 12th classes. After finishing 12th class one can join National
Defence Academy directly.

Specialty of this military college is to conduct entrance exam twice a year for admissions.
Notification is released at least a year in advance for every session. Candidate should not be less
than 11 ½ years of age or must not have attained 13 years of age. The candidate should be
studying 7th class of finished 7th class at the time of admission. State public service commission
also undertakes the admission and notification procedure along with Rashtriya Indian Military
College. Entrance Exam is held in June, July every year. Admission will be given to the
candidates after an interview and medical test. 25 candidates will be admitted per session. The
written exam consists of a test paper in English for 125 marks, general knowledge for 75 marks
and mathematics for 200 marks. Candidates can appear for the mathematics test in English and
Hindi medium. General knowledge paper can be written in the regional language. The standard
of question paper is of 7th class.

To reach to the VIVA (interview) stage, candidate has to obtain at least 50% marks. State
governments give scholarships of Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000 for these students. Andhra Pradesh
state gives Rs. 14,000 to every student studying in these schools. Various private organizations
also help these students.

Students of Rashtriya Indian Military College get a chance to participate in various


extracurricular activities like rifle shooting, riding, music, art, journalism and current affairs.
Body building is given importance. By the time the student finishes 12th class, he will be ready
for a defence career.

Rashtriya Military Schools

Rashtriya military schools prepare the students for defence careers from a very young age. Many
students from these schools, which have a history of over 50 years, are occupying high positions
in the armed forces and serving the country. These were established for the children of defence
personnel. But now admissions are given for common people also. CBSE syllabus is followed
in these schools.

Admissions are through an entrance test conducted every year for admission into 6th class. These
schools provide education from 6th to 12th class. Preference will be given to the children of
defence personnel. 67% seats are reserved for children of army, navy and air force personnel.
20% are reserved for officer rank officials children. 13% of seats are open for common people.

Notification for the entrance test is released for admission into 6th, 10th and 11th classes.
Common entrance test is conducted for admission into 6th class. Admission into 11th class is
based on the marks secured in 10th class. Common entrance test notification will be release
separately by each of the 5 schools separately for admission into 9th class. Separate applications
are to be submitted for each school. The admission procedure consists of 3 stages. First stage is
an entrance test. Students who got through this test have to attend an interview. Final stage is
the medical test.

The standard of the entrance test is of the standard of the same class the applicant is studying. It
consists of general knowledge, intelligence, mathematics and English. Knowledge in basic
grammar, famous personalities and important dates is enough to get good marks in English and
general knowledge. Notification is released in the end of July or the first week of August every
year. This is published in all the prominent news papers and employment news. One month
time is given to apply. Exam is generally conducted at the end of December. Students between
10 years and 12 years of age can apply for the academic year before 1st July. That is for the
academic year of 2011-1012, applicant should be between 10 and 12 years of age by 1st July.

Sainik Schools

These schools were established in 1961 to prepare students for entry into National Defence
Academy. There are 24 schools in our country. More than 12,000 students are studying 6th to
12th classes in these schools. Korukonda Sainik School in Vijayanagaram district of Andhra
Pradesh is famous all over the country.

Entrance test is held for admissions into 6th and 9th classes. Admission is given only after an
interview and medical test. Admission into 11th class is based upon the marks secured in 10th
class. Specialty of these schools is to give preference to home state students. 67% seats are
reserved for the home state students.

Entrance test is for 300 marks. It consists of mathematics, language ability and intelligence test
each for 100 marks. English basic skills are tested in language ability test. Standard of the test is
of an average student. Entrance test for 9th class is for 450 marks. It consists of mathematics
paper for 200 marks, science paper for 75 marks, English for 100 marks, social studies for 75
marks. Notification is released in November every year. One month time is given for applying.
Application can be had from the respective Sainik school websites of the principals of the
schools. Exam will be held on the first Sunday of January.
The applicant should be below 11 years for admission in to 6th class, between 13 and 14 years for
admission into 9th class. For the academic year 2011-12 the applicant’s age should be in the
given limit.

Scholarship facility is also available for the students. Students are also eligible for State
government scholarships. Central defence ministry is giving Rs. 10, 000 subsidies to each
