Mike Miller Eulogized in State Senate

To Jackson: ‘Stay Honored’ to Service District 27
By Dick Myers
Editor
Maryland Senate President
Emeritus Thomas V. “Mike” Mill-
er, Jr. of Calvert County was eu-
logized on Jan. 21 in a more than
two-hour ceremony on the Senate
f loor in Annapolis. Speakers in-
cluded Gov. Larry Hogan, Rep-
resentative Steny Hoyer, several
past members of the Senate and a
dozen current members from both
parties. Miller died at his home in
Chesapeake Beach on Jan. 15.
The final speaker was Sena-
tor Michael Jackson, the man ap-
pointed by Gov. Hogan to replace
Miller after he resigned his seat
last month. Jackson, who formerly
served as a delegate from District
27-B, one of the three districts
in Miller’s 27th District that cov-
ers parts of Calvert, Charles, and
Prince George’s counties. Miller
served in the legislature for nearly
50 years.
Jackson, former Prince George’s
County sheriff, said Miller select-
ed him to be delegate.
“He said, ‘You’ll do fine. You’ll
do fine. Just don’t look at the map.
Believe in me. Don’t look at the

one out,” Jackson mused. Gov. and Mrs. Hogan greet family of the late Senate President Emeritus Mike Miller upon the arrival of his casket at the statehouse on Jan. 21. Photo courtesy

Planners Approve Three Hogan Asks For Patience

New Projects In Vaccine Distribution
By Guy Leonard

Maryland is doing all it can to
distribute what vaccines it is given
by the federal government to com-
bat COVID-19, Gov. Larry Hogan
said at a press conference in An-
napolis Jan. 26, but citizens should
be patient and expect to be put on
a waiting list to get their dosage.
“For at least the near future the
demand will continue to far exceed
supply,” Hogan said. “This will be
a much longer process than any of
us would like.”
The state was also working to
establish half-a-dozen mass vac-

state-wide,” Hogan said, with the
first two to open Feb. 5.
