Hridoye Mati O Manush

Firey Chol Matir Taney 5

Intro: On camera

Rat is not only a disturbance in Bangladesh. Every year, from October-February,

government takes up the five-month programme to wipe out rats. To reduce their number,
for many years, plans are being taken. But to stop them completely is a very tough
matter. For the new generation who wants to know more about agriculture, this is a very
significant matter to keep as a note.

The tough work on the second day, which these four students will have to do. They’ll
have to plough the land on this muddy land. Viewers, in many areas of Bangladesh
farmer himself becomes the cow to do the ploughing. As farmers can’t fetch cows all the
time, their children becomes the livestock animal instead of the cows. At this advanced
age, we see these horrible pictures.

98% of farmers don’t have cows for ploughing. They’ve got to depend on plough-
machine or others’ cows. Once without the cow, farmers couldn’t even think of
agriculture. As they can’t cultivate whole through the year, they remain satisfied doing
only single-crop on a triple-crop land. Because, some can’t bear the machine cost and
some can’t just put their children on the field.

Neshat’s father says, “If you don’t study well, you’ll be sent to work as a farmer in a rural
village”. But Neshat feels that with sound education, people should come to the village.
This initiative has given birth to a great commitment among these four students. That’s
why they’ve taken this hard task very cordially. And, now they are the seekers of
agricultural news.

Meanwhile, at Khoinkut village, Managing Director of Agrani Bank came to distribute

loans. He heard about Firey Chol Matir Taney (Returning to Roots). He along with his
officials came to the land with great interest.

At one stage, all the officials went down to the mud to inspire the students.

This is a great reward for the foursome. But the reality is the real farmers keep on
working very hard whole through the year. But, they can’t bag any rewards as such. We
thank Agrani Bank wholeheartedly for their cordiality.

Ploughing is done. Now they’ll clear out the weeds from the mud. They’re now very
much tired because of hours of restless task.

Their evaluation goes on as they work. Farm-owner Farazi and SAAO Humayun Kabir
are in charge of the evaluation.
The noon-time is almost gone. Still, no sign of lunch. They’re so hungry. Lunch came
pretty late. Chubby rice again…and some fried up vegetable. The cracked plate again.
This is the reality.

At the second day, they seem habituated with the situation. They’ve accepted the
everyday unexpected realities of a farmer. But a terrible thing happened, meanwhile.
Farmer-organizer, Selina Hossain felt very sad for these students and gave them some
pitha (traditional cakes) for eating. Hidden camera captured the whole scene. They were
punished.

Finally they accepted the punishment. Neshat and Mashuk started breaking the hard top
soil. Riyadh and Nahid started carrying bio-fertilizer on the other side.

They finally ended doing everything perfectly. Would they get a bit more of wage today?

Are they frustrated or inspired? Two days passed. Did they get anything?
