S Smooth Other (RMM) How to Set Up RMM

•  Select [Rendering Mode Mix] on
the touch panel.
•  Select a combination from [Surf.
Sharp + Lighted], [Surf. Smooth
+ Lighted], [Surf. Sharp + MIP] or
[Surf. Smooth + MIP] on the
touch panel.
•  Set a mix ratio in [Mix Ratio] on
the touch panel.
Example: When the combination
type is [Surf. Sharp + Lighted] and
the [Mix Ratio] is “30/70” “S. Sharp”
For surface rendering that Rendering Mode Mix S.Smooth
will be displayed at 30% while
smoothen the structures. + MIP – Mix Ratio 50/50
Surface with less power Rendering for internal “Lighted” will be displayed at 70%.
Good for contrasted 2D image parenchymal organs.

Opacity = Main Parameter

The gauge that lets you adjust the surface opacity level for a 3D image is called Opacity Control.
A high opacity level will display the surface of the image, while a low opacity level will render the
surface more transparent / translucent.

Lower Threshold

Lower Threshold is filtering Low Brightness Echo Noise. It represents one of the most important
parameters to adjust image quality and amount of information to show

to the 3D image. Configures the contrast level for displaying regions close to the viewpoint as
bright and those farther away as dark

Smoothing (3D) applies smoothing to volume data which has been created. This setting only
applies to 3D images. It does not apply to cross-sectional images.

Gamma (3D) changes the brightness of the 3D. It adjust the echo brightness of the reconstructed
image.

4D Shading

Realistic rendering that displays the surface like a fetoscopy. More natural effect and lifelike skin
tones are used.
A Light Source is available to highlight and use the shadowing for a more realistic effect.

Do not place the source of light in the front.

You lose the Shadowing effect and the color tones

directionality. Diffuse to direct light effect

Light Enhancement Front/Back

•  Light Enhancement Front adjusts the front brightness of a 3D image. Changes the power of the lighting in
the front part

1St Trimester

On 1st trimester scanning the Set up of the ROI is important.

Big ROI includes lot of background structures. Small ROI defines better the anatomy of the baby

Big ROI Thin ROI

Set Higher Quality (Line Density 4 – Frame Density High – Scan Angle approx 50%).
Lower Threshold 28/30 ( Lower value to increase information) – Smoothing MID2/High

1st Trimester

•  To get a nice transparent image of the baby use 4DShading with the backlight
•  The high quality set up gives good image quality of MPR plans

1st Trimester

Color Depth with surface rendering is effective in 1st trimester.

Set Low Level of Lower Threshold and modify the smoothing according to the structure you have
to show. The smaller the structure, the lower the smoothing.

3rd Trimester

The Set up for 3rd Trimester is similar to the one for the 2nd trimester.
An enlarged FOV is needed and slightly lower frequency.
2D Setup
•  Slightly higher Contrast
•  THI Mode -> FmT (HdTHI if easy patient)
•  Freq / Receiving Filter -> Low / Low (to be changed if needed)
•  HiRez ->5
•  Persist -> 0
•  Line Density ->3

3D Setup
•  Scan Angle 90/100%
•  Line Density 2
•  Frame Density Medium

Spine

3D of the spine needs a specific rendering and some changes to preset:

Fetal Brain – Corpus Callosum

For Fetal Brain examination use a setup similar to 3rd Trimester scanning:
2D Setup

•  Freq / Receiving Filter -> Low / Low (to see well the fetal brain structures)
•  HiRez ->5
•  Persist -> 0-2
•  Line Density ->3/4

3D Setup (High Quality)

•  Scan Angle 90/100%
•  Line Density 3/4
•  Frame Density High

Fetal Brain – Corpus Callosum

How to see Corpus Callosum from a surface rendering:

Fast solution
•  Start from normal 4 Views in Surface
•  Change to XRay rendering for a very fast visualization

For X Ray Rendering set higher Gamma (3D) and no change of the gain

MSI (Multi Slice Imaging) with VSI view is useful to explore the whole brain
Setup of MSI with VSI:
•  RefC (or the plane needed)
•  MSI Slice Thickness 1.5-2.0mm
•  VSI Thickness 8-10mm
•  Gamma(3D) 7-1
