Opacity = Main Parameter
The gauge that lets you adjust the surface opacity level for a 3D image is called Opacity Control.
A high opacity level will display the surface of the image, while a low opacity level will render the
surface more transparent / translucent.
GP
Lower Threshold is filtering Low Brightness Echo Noise. It represents one of the most important
parameters to adjust image quality and amount of information to show
GP
GP
Configures the level for changing the brightness in the depth direction to apply effective contrast
to the 3D image. Configures the contrast level for displaying regions close to the viewpoint as
bright and those farther away as dark
Color is used from upper edge of Clipping Box to back to enhance the sense of depth in 3D
images.This function is available only for RMM Surf. Sharp + Lighted & Surf. Smooth + Lighted

Color Depth Shift
Color Depth shift: The lower the value, the further the color at the back will extend to the front and
the larger the value, the smaller the back color area will be.
Luca Mastrogirolamo © Hitachi Medical Systems Europe 2017 All rights reserved. 21
Color Depth Contrast
Color Depth contrast: The higher the value, the greater the difference between the basic color
and color depth in the image.

Smoothing (3D)
Smoothing (3D) applies smoothing to volume data which has been created. This setting only
applies to 3D images. It does not apply to cross-sectional images.
New algorithm from previous version
GP
Gamma (3D) changes the brightness of the 3D. It adjust the echo brightness of the reconstructed
image.
GP
Realistic rendering that displays the surface like a fetoscopy. More natural effect and lifelike skin
tones are used.
A Light Source is available to highlight and use the shadowing for a more realistic effect.

Shadowing
Shadowing in 4DShading changes the directionality of light. The higher the value, the higher the
directionality. Diffuse to direct light effect
• Light Enhancement Front adjusts the front brightness of a 3D image. Changes the power of the lighting in
the front part
• Light Enhancement Back adjusts the back brightness of a 3D image and change the lighting in the back of
the 3D image

1st Trimester
• To get a nice transparent image of the baby use 4DShading with the backlight
• The high quality set up gives good image quality of MPR plans

3rd Trimester
The Set up for 3rd Trimester is similar to the one for the 2nd trimester.
An enlarged FOV is needed and slightly lower frequency.
2D Setup
• Slightly higher Contrast
• THI Mode -> FmT (HdTHI if easy patient)
• Freq / Receiving Filter -> Low / Low (to be changed if needed)
• HiRez ->5
• Persist -> 0
• Line Density ->3
3D Setup
• Scan Angle 90/100%
• Line Density 2
• Frame Density Medium

Fetal Brain – Corpus Callosum
For Fetal Brain examination use a setup similar to 3rd Trimester scanning:
2D Setup
• Slightly higher Contrast
• THI Mode -> FmT (HdTHI if easy patient)
• Freq / Receiving Filter -> Low / Low (to see well the fetal brain structures)
• HiRez ->5
• Persist -> 0-2
• Line Density ->3/4

MSI (Multi Slice Imaging) with VSI view is useful to explore the whole brain
Setup of MSI with VSI:
• RefC (or the plane needed)
• MSI Slice Thickness 1.5-2.0mm
• VSI Thickness 8-10mm
• Gamma(3D) 7-1

Fetal Brain – Corpus Callosum
FMPR (Free Axis of MPR) is useful to quickly search for cross-sectional images of a specific
structure.
