Arnis existed way before Spaniards colonized the Philippine island.

This only means that we already have

our own culture and traditions. Our predecessors were known for having a great combative skill and
they used different weapons such as sticks and blades to fight and defend their community and territory
from invaders. This practice gave the way to the birth of the National Sports and Martial Arts of the
Philippines, Arnis, also known as Kali or Eskrima. While watching the video, it truly amazes me how true
of a warrior, skillful and resourceful our natives are even though they only have limited resources that
time, they still manage to win battles against foreign invaders.

Arnis ain’t called national sports for no reasons. Apparently, this sport represented our country, and it is
beneficial not just for our health but also for our safety. It is also universal, it can be played by anyone,
male or female, young or old. According to the video, Arnis helps us to be physically fit and develop and
strengthen our muscles. As what I’ve said, Arnis also benefit our safety. If you know the basic techniques
of Arnis, there’s a high chance that you can get yourself out from danger. Arnis can save our lives, so it is
essential to learn the basic skills of it and apply this whenever there are bad situations and we have to
protect ourselves. Arnis benefits our alertness and self-defense.

Overall, the video made me realize that we have a lot of things that we can be proud of but majority of
us can’t see it because we are heavily influenced by foreign culture to the extent that some of us
became oblivious of our roots and heritage that our predecessors passed to us. I believe Arnis is not just
a subject in school that we are required to do, but it is a tradition that has been preserved for years. It is
not only a sport or some sort of self-defense, but it is part of who we are as a Filipino citizen. It speaks
volume to our rich culture that, as of today, we should keep on instilling to the mind and heart of future
generation the essence, beauty, and art of this Filipino martial arts.
